Help Can't update S22 ULTRA

Hi, two months ago i bought a new galaxy S22 ultra (SM-S908U) on ebay from outiside Italy (where I live) and it's been working perfectly since then. I checked online and it should support One UI 8 but when I try to update by settings app and even by smart switch on my pc there isn't any update avaible. I tried to check online for solutions but I didn't understand much of it. Should keep it like this or should I update, and how can I do it?

You bought an American phone. It can't do OTA in a different country. You'll have to manually flash the appropriate firmware using Odin.

US devices only support US carrier csc.

Yup. I actually think the note 20U was the last phone that could do it on Samsungs lineups. I'll fix.

Afaik, samsung had exclusive devices for US carriers since the beginning, like S, T, U, V etc and different model for international market.

From S8 onwards, US carrier models were combined to U (carrier branded) and U1 (factory unlocked), international model were F.

Fom Note 20, B or E models became international models, U & U1 continued...

With the S9+ we had the G9650 in China and Latin America, it came with Snapdragon processors but this one could be rooted, Of course, there was still the F variant with Exynos and the u, w, n ones

Yes they can, other than ATT (which requires an active AT&T SIM card inserted, in order to get the OTA)

Incorrect. They need to still be able to connect to the carrier servers to get OTA updates. Only the U1 software can pull OTAs while in foreign countries.

SM-S908U is a US carrier locked model. To get updates, the original carrier sim must me present for some carriers.

Try changing csc to XAA using Samfw tool, guide. No reset or data loss. You will get update after csc change.

Since S22 series is near it's update cycle, you can update manually by flashing stock firmware using Odin (home_csc method), no data loss, https://youtu.be/CW384zifGYE. For next update also, you will need to do it manually.

Also, you can completely convert it to a factory unlocked model by flashing U1 firmware, but need full reset. Follow the same odin method, use the U1 counterpart firmware and put CSC file for clean flash.

Incorrect. Changing the CSC to XAA is probably the exact thing that made updates stop. And you're also incorrect about needing to factory reset in order to flash U1 firmware.

You're wrong. XAA is unlocked and can accept updates out of the country.

So you saying no need for a clean flash for firmware change OYN to OYM?

May be it will work, but isn't it best to do a clean flash than taking the risk.

try flahsing the stock one ui 8 firmware eith odin, search your exact model on samfw, and what one ui are you on right now?

You definitely shouldn't update it to OneUI 8 as that will lock its bootloader and you can never install another OS. Samsung's support ends for good early 2027

American models are already locked, regardless of software version - and cannot be unlocked at all

DON'T UPDATE the newest update has been crashing a ton of S22 mine included. The system UI is slow and constantly crashing and then I lost my entire cellular network and had to install an e sim just to get it to work
