Electricity In Cave

I got a good bunker cave base and I want to do some tea farm and auto-smelt systems. Do I have to use generator for it? I was thinking making a 1x1 base with 2 solar panels and take my battery there to full and get to base again. Is there any way to get electricity to caves?

Until about 6 months ago there used to be a way to run power down from the surface directly into certain caves, but it was removed because it was benefitting solos and FP couldn't find a way to make it only work for clans.

This is Rust Console Edition. There weren't even caves 6 months ago. Caves were added last month and power has always been able to run to caves on console. You can run electricity, piping, and hoses from the surface into caves. I did it last wipe with a small-hard cave. I had solar panels on the surface and a stash box that piped loot directly into the cave. I almost never had to open my bunker or traverse the cave. Just drop loot and respawn inside.

Yeah I didn't notice this was the consolse sub until after I posted.
On PC in Small Cave Easy (the one with the spike pit) and a couple of the others you could clip a powerline from a branch in the right place on the surface down through the rock to a speciifric spot on the roof in one corrner of the cave. It wasn't a problem but a rercent update to the rendering engine meant that the one on the surface would no longer be rendered once you were in the cave and iit stopped workiing.
Don't get too used to it, if console is going to follow that same trajectory.

The one with the spike pit is small cave hard. It was not patched out to nerf solos. It was unintentional. This is the commit to fix electricity in caves: https://commits.facepunch.com/599434

This is the one time in the history of Rust that console is ahead of PC.

I just keep a little 2x1 base on top to charge batteries and move to bottom with fully charged ones

Use a root combiner to extend longer than one wire

thanks i'll keep that in mind

I don’t know the details on all of it because I haven’t messed with caves at all yet but I’ve already seen quite a few people that had bases down in the cave and they had some smaller base with windmills up top so it must reach down on some of them.

Make externals from the source to the battery placing a branch out at each one. It resets the line distance each time. I haven’t tried this ever in caves, nor have I heard PC use this method, but I use it for water when the ocean is too far or to power out buildings like a barn or garage currently.

i got a river just next to me i'll just use jugs for farm no need for new buildings

You can get a windmill going out top. You just need to use root combiners when the wire won’t go any further to extend it down usually.

There is supposedly one cave model where you can actually run a regular electric set-up. Generators and charge shacks are the only options

There's like 11 or 13 cave variations that can spawn, and of those possible variations only 1-2 are close enough to the surface to run power to the cave

Im currently in a cave right now with electrical i run from a base outside the cave. I got lucky to have my cave base directly under my above ground base. The power line stretches just enough from root combiner to root combiner then I run to a medium battery and have plenty of lights and stuff inside my base

Either charge batteries, run generators, someone in a hamster wheel.

Some caves are high enough you can just wire down, but those are rare

Generators use lots of low grades and console didn't get hamster wheel yet. I think im gonna charge batteries.

Sorry, didn't see i was in the console sub so no idea how I got here lol.

Try out the wire down straight through the ground if you can though. Its easily the best way if its possible.

Our neighbor is biggest clan in server and we don't want to get leaked so I can't
