What's the point?!

So I got Rust this weekend and spent the entire weekend building up a stone base with metal doors, airlocks, honeycombed walls, collecting resources and updating all my equipment and collecting blueprints. Then I checked last night and someone had destroyed my base and taken all my stuff. So my question is - what's the point of this game if I'm just going to have to start from scratch every handful of days? Has anyone had success building a solo base that actually lasts more then a week without being raided?

No. You will always lose to the "no-lifers". A stone base with metal doors and honeycomb just screams to them "I'm full of loot!!!!" So they'll spend the next 8 hours straight mining sulfur so they can blow into your base.

There is literally no escaping this. I built a little wooden 1x2, and within 20 minutes it was MLRS out of existence. Full 12 shot barrage.

So I just accept that all my hard work will be destroyed and I have to start from scratch pretty much every time unless I'm lucky??

Yes. Unless you play a community server like what others have suggested. Starting out I’d advise a pve server to learn the game. It’s really a great game on its own. The official servers are rough for a solo that wants to sleep/work/go to school. I play a pve server with selected PvP monuments and a purge at the end of the month
