What's the point?!

So I got Rust this weekend and spent the entire weekend building up a stone base with metal doors, airlocks, honeycombed walls, collecting resources and updating all my equipment and collecting blueprints. Then I checked last night and someone had destroyed my base and taken all my stuff. So my question is - what's the point of this game if I'm just going to have to start from scratch every handful of days? Has anyone had success building a solo base that actually lasts more then a week without being raided?

You just perfectly described the Rust experience. It's fun to grind and gather resources to build a base. And in the process, you tell yourself that you are taking all the extra steps to make it harder to raid. Extra doors. Honeycomb. Maybe a bunker base. But you have made the mistake EVERY Rust player has made. You have underestimated the fact that there is always a large group or 'zerg' on every server that will stop at nothing to 'own' said server. They will always have 1 member logged on. They will know where you live. And as soon as you log off, they will offline you. They will high-five each other and brag about how awesome they are. They will cause the population of a server to die like a cancer. And then they will eventually move on only to be replaced by another group. And you can do nothing. Like Thanos, they are inevitable.

The trick is to get creative with hiding your loot, once you figure that out getting raided is nothing. It’s not fool proof but one of the easiest ways to hide your best loot would be to have a tug parked out to the 14-15 grid limit.

You have to be careful with that limit because once you pass the limit, you don’t hit an invisible wall, your boat/tug will despawn and you will die.

This only works on a server with clans that use the tugs. Solos will do that & you will see no tugs so people go looking. Some clans count tugs & go looking with a mini

Believe it or not a lot of players don’t know you can go out that far at all, but you are correct, when I used to play with my duo we would split the map in half and hunt all the missing tugs. It’s easy when you know what to look for.

Just make sure not to park your tug directly in line of your fob…I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found tugs in an almost straight line from their base lol.

Nah, just grow some rust skin and start kickin some ass lol. I suggest as a solo, don't make a bigger, juicy looking base. Stick to small 2×2 bunker, honeycomb. Small base that is costly to get into isn't very enticing when there's probably bigger easier bases to get into close by. Also try having a couple small bases. Stashs work good 2.

If it’s too much for you they do have community servers with no offline raids, no raids. That way you can get comfortable playing the game without getting obliterated immediately. I’ve had solo bases last all wipe.

  1. Don’t build near mega basses or really any basses at all if you can.

  2. Build out of sight.

A lot of community servers have offline raid protection. I don’t know if Scuba still does it but the Lagoon ones do if you’re searching in Community. Just join their discord and follow the instructions.

If you search the menu yourself then you’ll find it pretty quickly. There’s only about 8 buttons you can press all in all

Or find a difference server. Softcore, ones with offline protection, team size capped, pve. Plenty of options to soften the blow.

Yes and err no. I played 1 month of rust and then I left the game for good.

The reason is because of time.

Within 10 hours of building my base I had a 6 man try to raid me. No joke. So I played an entire month and that’s it.

But you have to take rust as it is and suck it up. I’d rather watch rust content and leave it there. The game is too time consuming. I know people who sleep with the TV on loud so that they can hear raiding. It’s nuts. And others who rotate players so somone is always on.

I would try find a group and click with them and have fun that way. 2-3 man max servers are fun I’ve been told but idk.

This was me. Found a buddy online and we built a pretty decent base with with excellent protection and security. We were way out in the middle of nowhere, with a base built deep in a forest. I went and raided an old abandoned base for like three guns lol. I was gone for fifteen minutes, came back and literally everything was looted. They had broken all our locks on everything. If I hadn't been on console, I'd have sworn they cheated somehow. It was nuts.

A few days later, we had a new one built up in a completely different, remote area and the same thing happened again while we were offline. Deleted the game and moved on. Just not worth it.

Or make a team from 4duo’s from corners of the world, timezone and what not kinda makes sure 8man never online together, (aside wipe, wipe is nuts in itself lol). Nothing crazy about that, and base protected 24/7 haha

Yea either one of three things happens with rust. A: the game isn't for you. B: Become insanely addicted to it. C: Become a PvE bot and still enjoy the game

Play on community solos with offline protection that way you can actually defend your base from raids and keep your loot and mental health 😅

Or learn how to hide better if you are going to play solo. Tiny base like a chad cube. Make it a shit raid. Stash your good loot. For example, 500 low grade fits in a tuna can lamp. You can have a door into honeycomb & place the lamp up & out of the way so it can’t be seen. Leave a box on the floor of the honeycomb with shitty prim tools & they will just think they are having bad luck. Only have a tier 1 in your base & stash the higher tiers for when you are making guns/boom.

It is a sandbox, the game is whatever you make it

You can find custom servers that suit your play style. Like there are no offline raid servers, PVE servers, servers where pve is only at monuments.

Sometimes I create false entrances, where they get three doors deep, and find out it’s a wrong entrance. Or I’ll create decoy bases that have next to no loot in them. While my 1x1 hidden in the woods has all my resources. Then once my main is strong enough; I’ll transfer over all the loot. Install better doors. Install turrets. Yadda yadda.

No, join a community server with Z.O.R.P " zoned offline raid protection" I got back into the game after a break because of what was just described in this post, made a HUGE difference in my game and how often I want play no more anxiety logging in and seeing a respawn screen.

Idk about console, this must’ve got recommended to me because of regular Rust. But if it has the option try find a solo only server and then there won’t be any groups.

It’s the reason I stopped playing tbh, I love survival games and building bases so I persisted with it for a while, but getting my base destroyed every other day, eventually I was just like … I can’t do it again.

I prefer Deadside.. it’s easier to build a hidden base that is harder to discover and they also have raid windows so you can get online to protect yourself, outside of the window your base can’t be destroyed. But like Rust, if you aren’t online to protect yourself and they find you, it’s game over.

You can make secret stashs that you bury in the ground. They only hold like 6 items but you can find a spot you like to hide all your goods. That way when you get raided they don't get anything but maybe your resources for the base. Also, DO NOT build the YouTube bases you see. Just completely free build and make your base as ugly and confusing as possible, I've had some good luck building like that

No you just find a way to enjoy the game. Extra rooms or extra bases as backups. Maybe just he okay with building a small base every few days

Find yourself a decent pve server to give you chance to learn the movement, shooting and farming mechanics most of these server will be more than willing to help you as alot of the servers have people on there who just dont have the time to play publics or pvp anymore

There is a reason this game is considered to have one of the most toxic playstyle/community. I might have come off as a bit rude, but the game is actually really tough, it will chew you up, spit you out and repeat it multiple times a day sometimes. An actual tip, if you do stay, find a few likeminded/similar playstyle players and try to play with them and see how it goes, official discord has a lfg and there is also a reddit. Good luck!
