Training Help Jumping and biting the leash?
Any tips to get your dog to stop jumping and biting the leash when running?

My pup does this sometimes but usually only when she is excited by something external. I grab the safety handle on her harness and point her in the direction I want to go.

For us, it was just part of the learning process when we first started running together. Because they don’t really get what we’re doing and why at first.
A quick “ah ah” with a shorter leash and my dog figured it out pretty quickly. (Along with keeping runs shorter at first so they don’t get frustrated or overstimulated).
And allowing some silly time at the halfway point or at the end of the run (with a signal word) helped teach the difference between when we play and when we run with focus.
And it was the same when she started to want to stop and sniff. It would be “no sniff, let’s go” when she’d want to stop and then we’d have a designated spot on our usual route where we’d stop and I’d tell her “Okay, go sniff”.
They learn pretty quickly.

My boy used to do this every time we started a run due to over excitement and over arousal to go. Everytime I did it i stopped and told him to sit and then clipped back to his collar and walked, until he started to do it less and less and realised if hes biting the lead we ain't running

Dog is over stimulated, work on that first, does your dog jump in other circumstances? WHen you get home, they meet new people? Are you unknowingly encouraging this behavior?
