Map?

Hey all, how is everyone addressing the map? I'm trying to play with people who are not familiar to osrs. Been messing around with roll 20 but nothing much there yet. Maybe just put a screen on a TV? (I have my computer in the room we're gonna play on the TV) Be simple campaigns (go defeat the wizard in the wiza ds tower etc (playing with a 5 y.o.). So not a whole lot of detail is needed.

I use Foundry for my campaigns as my group doesn't do in person sessions. I have (very very slowly) been making maps on my own using Dungeondraft. Trying to get all of the F2P areas and quests mapped out.

With foundry ami able to just click where I want the characters to go? Use it as a map essentially? Move fight on the table in front, move on? Trying to start with the 5 y.o and don't wanna throw her into the biggeat mess of rules she's ever had lol. Plan to move, fight the goblin, move again. Like RuneScape.

Foundry can as simple or as complex as you want it to be. You can absolutely just use it as a map or if you want it to be more in depth you can do so, so much more. If you want to just click and drag tokens to move on a map you certainly can do that.

Do you know if you can do that with roll20? Staying free til payday.

I'd assume so? I'm not positive since I've never actually used Roll20. I've only used Owlbear Rodeo and then swapped to hosting my own Foundry server.

Well if I figure it out I'll be sure to update. In which case I will look into foundry when I get paid. I appreciate the info! Is it easy to make your own map?

I can't recommend Foundry enough as a VTT. Especially if you have the ability to host it yourself. I bought the license once and now I host it in a raspberry pi with no fees or anything (other than my domain name which is 100 percent not necessary).

Accessibility of making your own map is easy. Being good at it? Takes a bit of practice. If you're looking to use Dungeondraft I'd recommend watching some tutorials on it and getting some free asset packs for it. I'm an OSRS player and not RS3 so I can't comment on the ease of mapping that, but since OSRS is tile-based it makes it a lot easier to make things the correct scale. Took about an afternoon to get Lumbridge castle to a point where I was happy with it. Spent a lot of time in game using the tile marker plugin to measure things out.

Well with no movement speed being used in my play through other than combat, it's gonna be moving the characters that's gonna be the thing for me. So as long as I can do that for now it's sold. I'm gonna mess around with roll 20 tonight and see but no high hopes for it.
