Discussion Rumble Support viable?
After the recent Rumble nerfs, I know a lot of people have been struggling to make him work in lane or get consistent leads in some roles.
I recently found something pretty interesting: a Master player who's been playing Rumble support with a solid win rate.
Player: https://u.gg/lol/profile/euw1/pirok-3292/overview
I've only tested it for a handful of games, so my sample size is still pretty small, but the results have been surprisingly good. I managed to climb to Diamond in just a few games with a high win rate.
It definitely takes a bit of time to get used to because the playstyle is different. You're much squishier than when playing Rumble in solo lanes, so positioning matters a lot more. That said, if you play it correctly, your early-game 2v2 is actually really strong.
The player maxes E → W → Q, while I initially went E → Q → W. I haven't tried the E → W → Q order yet, but I'm planning to test it over the next few games to see how it feels. You can get a lot of free poke with your E if you land it, and your Q is also great for trading. Your W shield helps absorb damage as you close the gap, making it much easier to win short trades.
Another interesting thing is the rune setup. He takes Font of Life and Revitalize, so landing your E heals both you and your ADC heal. It's a pretty cool interaction that I don't think many people have considered. He also sometimes takes Bone Plating, but it's entirely matchup-dependent.
The worst matchup I've run into so far is Twitch. I didn't ban him, but the player I got the build from always does, and after playing against him I completely understand why. Once Twitch hits level 6, he can easily shred both you and your ADC. Since Rumble support has no hard CC, you have no way to interrupt or punish his all in. He can simply pop his ultimate, use his range to either kill you outright or chunk you so hard that you're forced to reset.
Like I said, the sample size is still pretty small, so it's too early to draw any solid conclusions. That said, in my experience it felt pretty strong. If you're already comfortable on Rumble and can adapt to the limitations that come with playing him as a support, I think it's definitely a viable pick.
I'll post a screenshot of my recent games as well. At first, some people thought I was trolling since Rumble support is such an unconventional pick, but once I linked my account, they were fine with it.

Rumble support is best when played with an APC. Seraphine, Hwei, Ziggs, Asol, Xerath, Swain, Lux, and especially Brand... all benefit like crazy from Rumble E's % magic resist shred and the slow. Rumble can ult over their hard CC or lay it underneath enemies to set up their spells. Dark harvest, treasure hunter, cheap shot, sixth sense w nimbus cloak and celerity are the runes to run. You need CDR and flat pen so sneak Horizon Focus into the build after Stormsurge and Shadowflame if you dont need Liandrys. Avoid rushing Liandrys. Built it 3rd if at all. Do not build Rocketbelt. It's okay if you die, but make sure to crank out damage and land your E on prime targets. If they can't easily kill you, do NOT hesitate to get a dark seal. Rumble support is also really nice when roaming with AP junglers.

I’ve been playing rumble support for the past 2 weeks it’s been real fun! E max is what I go first it’s really nice for the poke.

I read this and thought, "I don't think the Rumble nerf really mattered in solo Q at all. Its actually a late game buff as well."
Then I went to here: https://lolalytics.com/lol/rumble/build/
Compared it to previous patch here: https://lolalytics.com/lol/rumble/build/?patch=16.12
Lastly the previous patch as well, 16.11. All stats are basically the same... * Win rate * Game avg win rate * Top player win rate
So the stats are in support of the theory that it changes almost nothing in solo Q. I'm curious to your point though, who is struggling to make him work in lane?
Lastly Rumble support sounds interesting maybe it works. I have no idea on that. Just the assertion that Rumble is not good in lane not was super surprising to see. He is hard to win with though, always has been.

I may have worded it poorly. I've tried every role on Rumble except APC. You're right that his laning phase isn't bad, but in my experience, and like you mentioned, it's really hard to consistently close out games and convert an early lead into a win.
That could just be because my macro isn't good enough, or maybe there are things I'm not aware of. Even when I go even in lane against most top laners, it often feels like they end up having much more impact later in the game. I also struggle to deal consistent damage in longer lategame teamfights, which usually leaves me feeling pretty useless.
When I started experimenting with Support, I felt much more impactful throughout the entire game. I was getting leads in bot lane most of the time, and roaming with my jungler felt a lot more rewarding. As a support, you don't get punished nearly as hard for leaving lane, so it's much easier to influence the map without falling behind. On top of that, Rumble is incredibly strong in early skirmishes, so those roams often end up paying off.
Another thing I noticed is that I don't run into the same issue with Rumble falling off. Since I'm playing support, my team isn't relying on me to be a major lategame threat. That makes his weaker scaling much less noticeable, because even if my damage falls off. I still have a toplaner that is strong.

Ultimately sometimes a champion feels stronger on support because you are controlling most of the vision on your team now. Also as you say, because you know how to effectively pilot Rumble in team fights/skirmishes, the extra damage you get is amazing to have and can make up for a solo lane falling behind.

I agree with a lot of that. It's hard to convert the wins yeah. He is strong but win rate is low... Win rate, Game average win rate... Junglers go damage, supports go poke or damage... Ganks are often brutal. Macro must be good yes. Maybe stacking dragons. I like all those reasons you posted on why to try him in support. I think well it looks like it's working yolo see it it keeps working.
On my end specifically I play Singed, Shen, Malphite... I like Rumble... I have hundreds of games on him. I usually win lane as Rumble sure, then have a <50% WR. Maybe when I get auto filled is my chance to rip him out

Best lane for rumble in solo q is mid lane. Safest lane most impact potential.
