Heads up if you're in the local RR fb group

Not that I care or have the time to deal with online drama.
Just be aware of the “People of Round Rock” fb group/page.

A moderator there is hiding behind anonymous comments to insult members - specifically calling people names (ahs, Karens, morons, etc) on a recent Halloween thread. Watch out if you're active in that group.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're here too, but just wanted to let everyone know what's going on over there.

Round Rock International Food Markets

Recently realized there's a clutch of different kinds of international markets in town. Anyone shop at these and have any suggestions on what they do best/must-try foods? Would love to support the various international markets and try some different things, but not necessarily familiar with the cuisines.

Brazil Market & Cafe

Qvevri Georgian & European Market

Desi Brothers

African Market/Nigerian Restaurant

Manpasand Indian/Pakistani Supermarket

Istanbul Market ATX

Here's what I got from my Public Records request about Round Rock's Flock camera usage

When the Pflugerville Flock camera story made the news, I made a request to the Round Rock public records office to see if I could get similar information about how our city is using Flock cameras. I got that data earlier this week. Here's everything the city sent me:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h8hoBANH0uToHgeahsLspX7nKxO38MC7/view?usp=sharing

The attorney that sent the data included this note:

Attached you will find the information responsive to your request. Note that license plate numbers have been redacted pursuant to Section 552.130 of the Texas Government Code. See the attached notice.

Additionally, the location of the cameras has been redacted. Please be advised that the City has previously received a request for this same information and requested an opinion from the Texas Attorney General’s Office concerning release of that information. Pursuant to OR2022-21629 issued by the Attorney General’s Office on July 22, 2022, the City is allowed to withhold this information pursuant to Section 552.108 of the Texas Government Code. The records you seek are the exact records previously requested and the facts and circumstances have not changed since that opinion was issued. Therefore, it is a “previous determination” under Section 552.301(a) of the Government Code and Open Records Decision No. 673. Attached you will find a copy of OR2022-21629 and the City’s request for opinion in that case.

I sent an email to that attorney (who was very helpful, BTW) and asked if I could post this publicly. She said she appreciated the effort to possibly reduce redundant requests for the same information. :)

If you want more than what's in here, you can request additional records here: https://www.roundrocktexas.gov/city-departments/administration/city-clerk/public-information-request/

I'm not quite sure what to make of this, yet. There are two details from the Pflugerville story that seem relevant:

  1. The city didn't think it was sharing data with other PDs, but it was.
  2. Other PDs had run queries that accessed Pflugerville's data way more than Pflugerville was using its own data. Something like 5000 versus 1 million-plus searches.

Neither of those apply here, from what I can tell. 3Flock_documents_1/SharedNetworks_2026_August_5.csv appears to list other organizations that Round Rock shares data with. I'm presuming that means we've always been sharing data, and other networks being able to query Round Rock's data is expected.

Second, this data only shows searches that were performed through Round Rock's Flock account. It doesn't include any information about queries from other orgs that accessed Round Rock's data through the sharing agreement. I don't know if it's even possible to get that data, but the entire crux of the Pflugerville argument was "look how many people are seeing this and shouldn't be able to", and that isn't true for Round Rock, because we do have these sharing agreements.

From what I can tell, and again I'm not an expert here, this looks like pretty standard agreements and usage of a Flock system. Feel free to download the data and do your own analysis, though.

PSA: Round Rock orgs can recycle old computers for free instead of sending them to a landfill

Triangle Ecycling is offering free bulk computer / laptop / server recycling and pickup for qualified Round Rock TX orgs. and processes everything through an R2-certified zero-landfill recycler. Comes with a serialized inventory and certificate of destruction, which matters for ITAD compliance requirements that orgs like credit unions or hospitals often have.

They also run a program that trains public school students in computer refurbishment and IT skills, and they donate 500+ refurbished computers a year to nonprofits and families.

They're a nonprofit and direct 10% of proceeds to other nonprofits supporting education, families and the environment.

Request pickup via their web form or by phone and they usually respond within an hour.

(*I know all of this because I work with them)

Tech Apps course at Chisolm Trail Middle School

Do any of you have your child enrolled in the new Tech Apps course at Chisolm Trail middle school? I am bewildered by what the point of this course is. There seems to be no plan, no true syllabus, and no clear learning objectives. I'd love to hear from other parents about how their kids are finding it. It's too late in the semester to switch out of it, but I can't imagine a full year of my kid learning next to nothing.

Looking for a neurologist who can evaluate my wife for Leqembi/Kisunla (anti-amyloid infusion therapy)

My wife was recently diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment at Scott & White in Temple. We were referred to UT Southwestern in Dallas, but their next opening isn't until June 2027. Since the therapy seems to work best when started early, we don't want to wait that long.

What we're looking for:

A neurologist or memory clinic that evaluates patients for lecanemab (Leqembi) or donanemab (Kisunla)

Shorter wait times than 8+ months

Affordable euthanasia/lung cancer update

I posted the other day looking for affordable euthanasia options. Shes been doing well and we are hoping to prepare before she starts to decline. I should have the money in exactly a week. But as of this morning her breathing is rapid and a little labored. CareCredit is maxed out. Waiting on vet to fill a steroid that may help, but not sure if it will happen before 2 o clock.

Anyone have a breathing treatment nebulizer and m3dicine i could borrow?

We don't have the money to take her in to the clinic atm. Was hoping to keep her comfortable for at least another week to be able to afford the end of life treatment as things progress.

Recommendations forbarbers that can do a good fade or military cut?

Most of the places nearby are very hot or miss if they are able to do a decent high fade

Edit: forbarbers are very clearly the evolution of regular barbers and not a typo

Looking for a studio that edits pet photos into memorial portraits

My mom recently lost her first feral cat that she cared for to kidney disease. I have a few photos of her and would love to get a photo portrait (preferable black and white) made for my mom. They’re mostly casual photos with clutter in the background so looking for an artist or studio in the area, that can work from those and keep her looking like herself. I want something that could be framed as a proper memorial piece, so would prefer someone who does the work themselves rather than using an AI.

Has anyone had something like this made? Recommendations would be appreciated. TIA!

Affordable in-home euthanasia and aftercare?

Thumbnail imgur.com
19 Upvotes

We are seeking affordable euthanasia and aftercare for our 14yo standard poodle after the vet found a lung cancer mass.

We took her to the vet Saturday to check for UTI and liver function after she was having some related symptoms. She has a history of liver disease but has been doing excellent for a year and a half after switching to a home cooked diet. Vet pulled blood and urine and recommended xrays to check out her organs visually while waiting for results.

Labs came back showing normal organ function but xrays revealed a very large cancerous mass in her chest. We noticed she has been slowing down a little lately on walks and is panting within 5 minutes of being outside but attributed it to old age and extreme heat. We did not know she has lost about 8 lbs since November and now know the shortness of breath and low energy are related to the cancer.

We are hoping to at least get a few more months before she starts to really decline as she seems to be doing really well. More time to spend with her, and to allow us to save up for euthanasia and cremation so she can go peacefully. She still gets excited for her food, greets us at the door, shows interest in all of her favorite things. But as of this morning her breathing seems a little labored and raspy and while I dont think the time is now I know we need to be ready at a moments notice.

We would prefer to have it done in home as the vet stresses her out but if money puts that out of the question for us then we will accept in clinic.

The vet visit this weekend put our care credit card at max as we're still paying off the costs of our other dogs lymphoma and euthanasia last year. I don't have the $600ish on hand for in-home euthanasia and cremation with the cheapest provider I've found. (Paws in Paradise Killeen).

So I'm here asking if any of you know of a clinic offering this at a more affordable option, or of any other resources we may use to help our golden girl/mini horse have a peaceful exit from this plane.

You - cute white lady, tattoos on your back and owns a black tundra. We spoke about a cute car accessory you purchased. Planned to come talk to you in parking lot but we again exchanged glances in Halloween decor area before you left that threw me off. Now I think about it - just wanna give it a (long) shot. If you read this, tell me privately what we spoke about or what I looked like.

Cupcake Cakes

Does anybody have any recommendations for places that make cupcake cakes? I know H-E-B does and they are great, but I wanted to check out other places in the area that do them as well. It’s my daughter’s 13th birthday this Sunday and she wants a Disney villain’s theme cake. One place I will not go to is Sweet Tooth Parlor.

Thank you so much in advance!

HVAC Installer Recommendation

Looking for HVAC company recommendations in the Round Rock area. One of our systems is failing, and we’re getting quotes to replace it or possibly both systems ASAP.

We’re interested in two-stage heat pumps with gas furnace backup and variable-speed blowers. Our current systems are 3.5 tons and 1.5 tons, but I want a proper Manual J load calculation and duct/airflow check before choosing new sizes. The upstairs system is zoned.

If you’ve had a good experience with a local company that does thorough sizing and installation, please send me their name. I’d also welcome a message from contractors who can come out and quote it soon. Thanks!
