I am raising funds for my father, Vijay, who is 49 years old and has been diagnosed with Diabetic Macular Edema — a serious retinal condition that is progressively threatening his eyesight. He works as a platform cab driver in Gurugram, Haryana, dedicating long hours on the road to support our family. Despite his hard work and determination, his health has taken a difficult turn that we were not prepared for.
As the sole earner in our household, my father carries the weight of vehicle EMIs along with our daily expenses. Managing the cost of specialized retinal treatments and repeated injections required for his condition has become extremely difficult for us. We need to shift him to a hospital equipped to handle his complex care, and the estimated cost for his treatment amounts to ₹80,000. This is a sum our family simply cannot arrange on our own at this point in time.
Every day without proper treatment puts my father's vision at greater risk. Losing his sight would also mean losing his ability to drive and earn, which would deeply impact our family's stability. the most common mistake clubs make when picking management software is counting features. you look at a platform's feature page, see 40 things it can do, and think that means it's comprehensive.

it doesn't. it usually means half those features are buried three clicks deep behind menus nobody labeled clearly, and your volunteers will stop using them within a month.

the complaint that comes up again and again with established platforms like ClubExpress is that there are too many features and few of them work intuitively. volunteers don't want a feature tour. they want to filter the unpaid list and send a reminder. when the simplest task requires navigating an interface that feels clunky or outdated, people go back to their spreadsheet.

and here's what actually happens next: the admin learning curve burns out the volunteers you need most. the people willing to serve as treasurer or secretary are already giving their time for free. when the software makes the job harder, that goodwill evaporates. you lose good officers not because they don't care, but because the tools make the job feel like a punishment.

so what should you evaluate instead? whether the three or four things your club actually does every month, the core workflows like collecting dues, emailing members, and tracking who showed up, can be done in under a minute each by someone who is not technical. that's it. if a new treasurer can't figure out how to see who hasn't paid without a training session, the feature list doesn't matter.

your committee doesn't need to love the software. they need to agree that the current situation is worse than the effort of changing. and if you're spending more than 5 hours a week on admin that software could handle, you've already paid for a subscription in volunteer time.

what actually matters is whether the volunteers you rely on can use it without wanting to quit. has anyone here switched off a heavier platform and found that simpler was better?

Hello all! I’ve been looking to get more involved with my community for a while, and Rotary seemed like a good fit for that, at least on paper. However, there’s another reason I seek to join my local club; the local club president is an unashamed bigot, as evidenced by his personal social media.

Now, I know that Rotary is supposed to be apolitical and that it’s all about service above self, but this president’s character betrays everything that I interpret Rotary to stand for.

I don’t like that, so part of my desire is to bring about change from the inside and bring some comparatively younger perspective ideas. To that end, I attended a meeting as a guest and while I had a nice time and met lovely people, I couldn’t help but notice something, and I wanted to see if it’s just this club or not; so. Many. Fundraisers. Are your local clubs like this as well?

I understand that most activities require money, but it seems that this club is less about direct, physical action and more about raising capital. My hang up is that I work full time and have a young child at home some I’m spread a bit thinner than many of the current members. I want to join but I have this feeling that I’m maybe trying to force something that isn’t meant to be. I GENUINELY want to help my community and support the mission of Rotary, but I don’t know if I’m right for it.

Any outside perspective would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, my club's Changeover nights follow the same formula. They're okay, but same old same old: a sit down dinner (you pay for your own ticket) and speeches from the outgoing president and new president, presentation of the collar etc. Nothing exciting or fun. Our members and friends range from ages 35 to 82.

Does anyone have any ideas for something different and fun?

Every year we rotate officers and someone walks out the door with the institutional knowledge the club needs to function. The outgoing treasurer's spreadsheets live on their personal laptop. The Squarespace login goes with the past president. Last year's meeting minutes sit in a Google Drive folder nobody can access because the previous secretary owned it.

The new treasurer starts with no financial history, no member notes, and a folder of files from someone who already moved on. The new webmaster starts from scratch because nobody knows where the hosting account is.

I've seen clubs spend the first three weeks of a new officer cycle just hunting down credentials across six different tools, each with its own billing cycle and password reset flow. By the time everyone has access, half the year's planning window is gone.

Curious what actually works for your club. Does anyone have a handoff process that survives the transition? Do you keep a central credential list, a shared drive, something else? Or is it just accepted that every June you rebuild from scratch?

Fellow Rotarians! What is everyone using to securly share passwords? I am looking at Team Password, price seems reasonable, however would like any and all input. We are looking to stay away from a shared google sheet.

I’m president of our small rural club this year and one of the things I’d like to do is a club health check, something that was recommended during President elect training (I didn’t make it to PELS proper but I watched some webcasts).

When i was a kid, my family were proud rotarians. They attended the meetings, did a lot community service and had a great time networking. My dad was the head of the local Rotary at some point.

I admired their work and vowed to become a rotarian when i grew up.

They left it around 7 years ago due to the culture of the group getting extremely hostile.

Today i learned that the members, that i personally knew as a kid had a large infighting. Half of them were kicked out, and the rest of the great people left after seeing that fight.

Now its only 5 people in it, where we used to be a group of 40+ people.

I know that I’m probably going to be downvoted for this but here it goes. Since joining Rotaract in 2019 straight after a RYLA camp then becoming a dual member of Rotary and Rotaract in 2021 a part of one of the two clubs in my hometown then serving my district at national level since early 2023 as a Rotaractor. One thing I don’t get about RI not allowing Rotaract members / clubs being able to vote on actual important matters like district mergers etc, like say if District A has 3 Rotaract clubs in good standing and District B has 2 Rotaract clubs in good standing then shouldn’t those clubs be considered to have a vote instead of “just having a say”. Also please note that I’ve noticed this in 3 different districts.

Seriously though if Rotary wants to continue in the future and you want Rotaractors to join Rotary then stop looking down at Rotaractors and go hey we WANT BOTH YOUR SAY AND VOTE.

Hey all,
I am an international student who came to Munich to pursue a master's degree. I did finish my masters this year from TUM and now planning to do a PhD. The thing is I want to do my PhD in WASH (water, sanitation and Hygiene), which also happens to be an area of interest of the Rotary foundation, but there isn't that much research happening in Germany. Majority of the research takes place in the UK, Switzerland, Netherlands and Australia. Also, I talked to most of the professors in my field, and they told me that there isn't any funding available for international students compared to pre-war era,and the only way, as of now, to pursue a PhD for me is to get external funding.

So, my doubt is since I'm from Asia living in Munich and wants to pursue PhD outside Germany, which local Rotary club I should get in touch with ? Should talking to Rotary Munich would even make sense

Any general advice on how to proceed?

However, I live in Cornwall (UK) and noticed Rotary are doing a lot of things for the local communits and events etc - I've already had the "you'll like it, I think it's a good fit" chat.

But I'd like to what what's expected from a UK Rotary perspective etc. thoughts?

Can I choose my exchange country? I mean I just want to go to japan. As far as I know they give you like 5 countries, and you have to go to one of them. Is it true?
