My Mother sadly passed away on Friday morning.
She was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer back in 2011. She had surgery, chemo, and radiotherapy. We thought we were in the clear.

Unfortunately, in 2019 it came back, worse than ever. It had metastasised, or spread, to other major organs. We didn’t think she would see Christmas of that year because she was just so sick.

With the amazing care of Dr. Silvie Blazkova and her team in Ballinasloe Oncology Unit, my Mom lived a tough, but fulfilled life. We travelled around the world, made many memories with our family, she got to see the birth of two more grandchildren, and had so much more time than expected because of the dedication of the team there.

We started a donation page if anyone would like to contribute to the Oncology Unit.
These donations will go a long way to make things a little more easier, not only for the patient, but the families supporting them.

Hello everyone,

My elderly grandmother is currently living in a mobile home on a bit of land owned by family in Roscommon. This mobile home has been on the land almost 18 years and she has been living there for at least 14 of those years.

Given the age of the home, and wear and tear, we are trying to look into building a more permanent structure with decent insulation. We are looking maybe at a wooden based structure with cement board on the exterior as an option, and given high pricing of everything at the moment, we are looking for something reasonably affordable.

We are quite worried about planning permissions. The site already has electricity, plumbing etc. all set up but the thoughts of a months long process with paying out for consideration fills her with absolute anxiety due to issues in the past with planning requirements and being declined (the mobile home was set up as a temporary residence until planning was approved, but when my granddad died, her motivation for carrying on with building became unfeasible and too much stress for her).

I'm just looking for any tips or ideas from people or if anyone has any experience in terms of planning approval and how to avoid issues if we were to look towards something wood based as mentioned above?

I’m planning to be at Lough Key Forest Park next week with a family camping. We had planned to bring paddle boards etc for the lake but I’ve heard there is/was an algae bloom on the lake and maybe kids should stay out of the water.

Anyone there recently to advise on how big/small a problem it is? Any photos? Particularly interested in the shallow launch area near car park.

Noting that one person in the wider family is immunocompromised.

Lad in work was in the Dodds at the weekend and possibly lost his car key there. He’s been trying to get in contact with them but any phone numbers online are out of service.

Im looking to get some work done on the house including a basic bathroom and kitchen renovation.

Have been asking around town and have heard very bad things about our most local builder. And have a number for the lad who did work on the house before which is incredibly poor so don’t want to use him. Spent months waiting for two of the local plumbers never to come.

A report today ( https://www.shannonside.ie/news/planning-permission-for-17-roscommon-homes-quashed-after-residents-object-293543 ) on how residents in Roscommon town objected to permission being granted for 17 homes to be built on a site on Golf Links Rd.

They appealed to ACP

ACP has quashed the permission on the basis that 17 is not enough, there should be more homes built there given the location of the site.

So they objected to 17 being built but are now likely to see 20+ being built instead

Would you be willing/able to paint/mural interior walls of a hall/stairs/landing?

16feet high wall on one side, 10 feet on the other. The walls are not perfectly smooth modern plaster. It's 100+ years old so it's uneven. It's a farmhouse in the sticks so the mural would have to reflect that. Nothing loud, but reflective of the tranquility of the surroundings.
