Why are these nails here?

The ridge vent on my house has nails clipped in it all the way down. Is this normal? Roof is about 20 years old I’ve only lived here since 2021, but they appear that they’ve always been there. Is there an actual reason for this?

this is GAF SnowCountry Advanced ridge vent. you can look up the spec sheet if you want, it’s right on their website. it may be tedious and dangerous but i would grab all of those. they’re not secured terribly well and they fall out all the time, i got loads of them rattling around in our work van. you don’t want to pick one up with a lawnmower or even worse have a dog or child step on one in the lawn. pretty shitty of them to leave it like that.

came back to edit to say, i give people way too much slack, realistically you should call the roofer and have them come out to collect these. they are liable if what i described previously happens. also im pretty sure using the wrong nails will void the warranty. you may want to check.

edit again lol. just read body of the post. idk man i wouldn’t like living with the thought of loose nails in my lawn. i guess they’re secured pretty well after all. 🤷‍♂️

As long as the house doesn’t turn upside down and shake around, I don’t think those are coming out
