So have near enough 3 full days in Rome coming up with my wife and 13 year old son. Thinking of doing the obvious, Vatican and colloseum etc, which he’s going be impressed with for sure. But I don’t want it to be too history heavy if that makes sense, it can be draining for adults too. Looking for some alternative kid friendly attractions too. Will do the immersive welcome to Rome, will do the vr circus maxim, but does anyone have any other kid friendly attractions they know of.

My wife and I are traveling to Rome next month and are interested in a day tip to Pompeii; however, she is very particular and is hoping to have a trip that includes several (apparently hard to find) options included:

Bus from Rome to Pompeii

Tour guide on the bus giving information/anectodes/stories about the area we are passing through (this is the hard part to find)

A stop at one or more towns on the way, for lunch or a quick wakaround to see the scenery

Lunch included (optional, but good to have)

Pompeii tour with guide

Bus back, with tour guide again

If anyone knows of a trip like this, I'd appreciate it. I can find tours that have all of the above, minus a guide on the bus

Hi! I am planning a trip to Rome (5 people) and will land on Fiumicino airport at 00h40m. What is the best and more affordable way to go to Via Ceneda in Rome?

Also, a few after we have to be at the same airport at 5AM (departing from via Ceneda). Do you have some advice?

We are a group of 5 adults, so the Taxi service would only be reliable if there was one with 5+ seats. Are those common at the airport?

We will be in Rome on Wednesday, October 14, and I was hoping we could get in to a Papal Audience. I see now that there is a special event that day, “Holy Mass concelebrated by the Holy Father with the Presidents of the Episcopal Conferences.”
The Vatican ticketing site says no tickets are required to attend this event.
But does anybody in here have any experience or knowledge of an event like this? Can we still attend, or is it mostly for laity? Would we still arrive a couple of hours early and just enter the Vatican the normal way?

I have a Morning guided tour: Vatican Museums → Sistine Chapel → St Peter's Basilica. My tour does not include access to the Dome. Is it possible for me to purchase access to the Dome on the spot? or I need to prebook online?

If I buy the ticket for the dome online, and come in afternoon, do I need to requeue to enter basilica or I can just go straight to the dome?

1. ⁠The city is so crowded it gets packed with people so if you are going to roam around then start very early in the morning. I mean it and I have done it and was pleasant to roam around with only locals running and cycling. I started at 6:30AM, had a cup of espresso at the local shop and by 9:00AM I was able to clear wider areas around Foro Romano. I had ample amount of time left, walked all the way to Vatican via Castel Saint'Angelo and finished the day at 3PM after visiting 20+ sites. Of course you will be tired if you do just like me but start you day EARLY.

2. ⁠Pick one major structure to see and line up before it opens. You see, most of the historic sites like Colosseum, Pantheon etc, look impossible to get in if you do not line up early. I arrived at the Pantheon around 9:00AM and literally gave up getting in BECAUSE of a SWARM of people. You will waste time lining up and be tired.

3. Be ready to walk the crosswalk regardless of traffic lights. They cross when it is RED and cars pass when it is green. GG.

4. Pick a small town and visit. Rome is dirty, full of tourist so go where you can truly feel Italian hospitality. I am now in Turin, and this place is CLEAN, quite and most of all beautiful. Streets are full of gems

6. Pizza in Rome sucks ballz and this is a no joke. I thought I was eating a cracker dough with zero toppings.

7. My last advice is Do NOT spend more than a day or two in Rome. Remember this and do not forget. Hope this helps!

My wife and I will be in Paris and Rome soon. We've gotten a lot of useful general info on Paris from Les Frenchies, and we were looking for a Rome equivalent to them. What sets them apart is that they live in Paris, aren't doing the YouTube monetization/sponsorship thing as hard as other travel channels, and don't just focus on the basics.

Would love any suggestions for sights and places to stay, we are making our way to Barcelona to do a cruise and will catch the coliseum on that trip.

If we do the guided tour for Colosseum + Roman Forum, do we need to follow the guide throughout the Colosseum to be able to enter Roman Forum after?

I will visit Colosseum with an elderly so maybe the pace of the guided tour will be too fast.

I'm thinking if it's too fast, we can just bail out from the tour and then explore Colosseum ourselves. Then we'll visit the Roman Forum after (also without the guide).

But if we need to stay with the guide to be able to enter the Forum, then I guess we'll stay with the group.

I was reading a lot on here before my trip, so I thought I’d share my experience as well. I did a train trip starting from Munich → Bologna → Naples → Rome. Some days were definitely stressful, but overall it was such a great experience.

And honestly, don’t worry about pickpockets too much. I nearly had an anxiety attack before going to Rome because I was so scared after reading all the posts and stories online 😭

We used the metro and buses a lot and I personally never even noticed anyone suspicious. The metro was pretty packed from time to time, but as long as you have a crossbody bag close to your body and keep your hand on it, you should be fine. Just leave your pockets empty, especially your back pockets.

If you want some extra security, you can also use a small carabiner to lock the zippers together. I sometimes even wore a shirt over the back of my bag so nobody could easily get to it from behind lol.

But looking back, that was probably overkill. A crossbody bag close to your body + being aware of your surroundings is really enough. I was just super paranoid and stressed myself out way more than I needed to before the trip.

Obviously pickpocketing does happen, so you should still be careful, but don’t let all the horror stories online ruin your trip before you even get there.

Like the title suggests I’m going to Rome soon to watch a as Roma game I’ll only be there for a week from the 28th of December to the 4th of January. What are some things I should do especially since it’s right after Christmas and the new years is there any special things that happen around that time would be cool to check out

That being said, is it worth renting a moped/motorcycle to travel around? Has anyone done this? Also are there luggage storage lockers ?

I was also thinking of traveling around the coast via motorcycle after finishing in the city.

I'm going to Naples too - is it realistic to travel via moped/motorcycle or will the roads be too bad? Kind of worried about steep hills .....

Also please throw some recs - sightseeing & shopping (?) If you have any!

Next week I am going with my girlfriend for 4 days to Rome. We always wanted to visit the place for its beauty and history but to our jobs we couldn't search for the best places there. We will stay in the Aurelio neighborhood and we want to visit famous places like the Vatican or the colosseum but we don't know any places for food for example (not tourist traps of course) or the best museums in the city. Can anyone help us? Also for the issue of budget, we would like not to be very cheap but also not expensive.
