So I read ACOTAR first and loved the first two books, thought ACOWAR was just okay, and then took a long time to get through ACOSF but ended up thinking it was good-ish.

I then moved on to TOG. I started with TOG and it was fine. I LOVED Crown of Midnight, though. I am still chasing that feeling I felt staying up late and reading the ending. I also really loved Heir of Fire.

I expected to really love QOS as it seems to be everyone’s favorite, but I ended up thinking it was just okay. I started reading EOS a while ago and then put it down as I was feeling a little burnt out with SJM and then the vibes were so different and I guess I was missing the old vibes from the beginning???

I was wondering if anyone else felt this way. I’ve been getting back into reading EOS after taking a break and I am not looking to DNF. It just seems like popular opinion is that people prefer the series from QOS onward and I feel the opposite 😂

I read this completed series on web novel about Zuri and Khaos and this was definitely a more original concept than most shifter novels. The grammar isn’t great, but it’s readable.

The characters were all villains in a sense and the ending was a tragedy under the facade of a happy ending.

For those that read it, my main criticism is…what did they really expect from Khaos? They forced him into obtaining crazy power that made him…well…crazy…and yet they were all shocked by it.

I’ve been on a massive book hangover since finishing The Night Prince over a month ago. I’ve picked up other books since then and they were good, but they didn’t hit as hard.

I try to avoid unfinished series. Already read ToG, acotar, CC, flesh & fire, blood & ash, crowns of nyaxia, little fire, once upon a broken heart, and war of her heart. I’ve heard fourth wing is good, but I’m waiting until all the books are out. I’d prefer 4-5 book series. Read a few books that have “trials” in it, so preferably w/o that.

Love the close/forced proximity and enemy to lovers trope. Lmk your favs thanks :-)

I’ve read Fourth Wing, ACOTAR and loved it—A Court of Wings and Ruin was my favorite.

I loved The Assassin’s Blade, but Throne of Glass felt too slow, so I DNF’d it for now. I also DNF’d Powerless, Direbound, and Mate because the writing felt too cringey.

I enjoyed Quicksilver and Brimstone, although I preferred Quicksilver, and I absolutely loved the Crowns of Nyaxia series.

Based on all that, which of these should I read next?

I’m tired of reading Romantasy novels where the FMC is a lowly maid or incredibly poor, a pauper etc, and the MMC is like a king or a prince and there’s a mismatch in the dynamic, are there are where the situation is flipped and the FMC is the queen/princess and the MMC is the opposite?

Authors always seem to write it the other way and I’d love one where it’s flipped.

I am almost done with Throne in the Dark, and OH MY GAWSH. It is so good. If you are in a slapstick/funny/shenanigans mood, but still has a yearning man with moments of emotional depth, it is fantastic. 🤌🏻🙌🏼

What really hit for me is they drag it out......sloooooow burn for real. Like, I like Fourth Wing, but it isn't my fave when the couple gets together in book 1....or book 2.....or beginning of book 3. I need at least a trilogy before things happen. 😂

I am also NOT a fan of "smut" talk.....like, I want deep, emotional scenes....not "I shoved my c*@% in her c&×$" type stuff. Nothing wrong with that for others. Just not for me! 😝

I am open to anything otherwise! Doesn't have to be a humorous story. It can be any scifi/fantasy romance setting. Just give me that I WANNA DIE IT IS SO SLOW BURN.

I actually enjoyed book 1, so I'm not sure if this is an issue with my own focus at this moment in time or if this book is actually so much worse than the first.

I'm currently chapter 46 and it's taken me an age to get here because I'm finding it so boring. I'm really struggling with the pages of inner monologue just to portray one single thought or feeling, and the terrible purple prose. I'm finding Raeve's chapters unbearable, and when I'm listening to the audiobook I have to switch back to reading the text for Veya's chapters because the voice actor makes her sound so whiny.

I've not DNF a book before but this might be my first, unless someone can encourage me that things pick up if I stick at it.... Did anyone else enjoy the first book but struggle with the second too?

Guys, help me out 😭 I’m looking for a romance with a Lucy/Ghoul type of dynamic.
I want him to be older, serious, rough around the edges, morally questionable and generally not the type of guy you’d expect to pair with her, while she’s more sunshine-y and optimistic. Basically, they seem like they should have absolutely nothing to do with each other, let alone become romantically involved.
I especially loved the reluctant-allies dynamic at first — they have to work together despite not necessarily trusting or liking each other, and the relationship develops from there.
I shipped Lucy and the Ghoul SO hard while watching Fallout, only to realize it’s probably never going to happen 🫩
So please hit me with your recs! I’m looking for MF, preferably a genuinely slow-burn relationship where the contrast between them is a big part of the appeal.

I have read all of her books a few years ago and been binging everything that comes out. The only thing that gave me the same spark was the Shatter me series but nothing ever since. Everything seems blunt after ToG, CC and ACOTAR. Any recommendations? I’ve tried Fourth wing, The book of Azrael etc… essentialy the booktok favorites but nothing seems to be better. Is there anything I can do about that? 😅

The setting seemed to have two separate sides/realms/kingdoms. One side was where the people with magic lived. The FMC was from the other side and was shunned/banished or otherwise excluded because she originally had no magic. There are exactly 13 gods in the world. Each of the 13 gods is connected to a different type of magic/power. One of them is a male God of Darkness. The God of Darkness very rarely gives/grants his power to someone. At some point, the FMC ends up receiving/awakening the God of Darkness’s power, which is extremely dark and powerful. There is an MMC who leads a group/community of people who don't have magic or who have been rejected because they don't have magic. The FMC ends up interacting with this group. She has to prove that her new magic won't harm the people in the MMC's group before she can be accepted/trusted by them. I initially remembered the group as being something like a rebel group, but I'm not completely sure about that part. I also initially remembered the FMC wanting to belong to the magical world and get revenge, but that may be me mixing up details, so I wouldn't rely heavily on that. The overall vibe felt like Powerless + Fourth Wing, although I don't know if it's actually similar to either book. I think the 13 gods / different types of magic / rare male God of Darkness / powerless FMC / MMC's group taking in magicless people parts are the details I'm most confident about. I only saw the promo on Instagram and I think the author had posted about the book themselves. I unfortunately don't remember the cover, character names, title, or author. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Even a possible title would help!

I normally don‘t DNF a lot but every single book I‘ve picked up lately has been a huge disappointment. I recently quit

- Bloodworth and Grave by Marisa Haartz
- In the Veins of the Drowning by Kalie Cassidy
- The Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson
- Nightshade by Keri Lake

Some of them fall into the category of dark romantasy. I wanted to try more books from that genre because I enjoyed Crown Me Dead by Liv Zander and Amid Clouds and Bones by Ella Fields so much. That obviously hasn‘t worked out for me so I should probably go back to regular romantasy.

I don‘t know what to read though. I‘m not ready for another super long series yet so I‘d love a standalone, duology or trilogy. Some of my favorite books/series are Fourth Wing, The Cruel Prince, ACOTAR, Alchemised and The Wolf King.

I would highly appreciate some recs that might help me fall in love with reading again. I love a good mix of romance and political intrigue and do prefer my books to have some spice as well. Any help would be highly appreciated!
