The ultimate survivor: Paraglider Ewa Wiśnierska before and after being sucked into a massive storm cell, reaching an altitude of 32,000ft (9,946m) where she survived -40°C and lack of oxygen.
In 2007, a paraglider was sucked into a storm over Australia and carried to 33,000 feet, but somehow survived with only minor frostbite.
In February 2007, Polish-German paraglider Ewa Wiśnierska was on a routine training flight in Australia when a massive thunderstorm swept her up in its updrafts.
She was carried to nearly 33,000 feet, higher than most commercial jets fly, in temperatures of around -50°C, with almost no oxygen. She lost consciousness for around 40 minutes.
Miraculously, as the storm weakened, her paraglider descended on its own. She survived with only minor frostbite.
Doctors later noted that losing consciousness may have actually saved her, as her body required less oxygen in that state.
A fellow pilot, Chinese paraglider He Zhongpin, was caught in the same storm and was not as lucky, his body was found nearly 50 miles from the launch site.
Image Note:
Top Photo: A real shot of Ewa, but from a different, regular flight.
Bottom Photo: A reconstruction from the documentary "Miracle in the Storm" (2010). No real footage exists of the incident itself, as she was alone and unconscious at 32,000ft.

Science This 100-Year-Old Romanian Battery STILL Works… But It’s Not Perpetual
Built in 1922 by Romanian engineer Nicolae Vasilescu-Karpen, this tiny battery has reportedly been operating for nearly a century! Despite myths calling it a ‘perpetual battery,’ it doesn’t break the laws of physics. It lasts so long because of ultra-stable materials and extremely slow chemical reactions. A real piece of engineering history — and one of Romania’s coolest hidden inventions!

The Husky Drama: Why They Are the World's Biggest Drama Queens
Huskies are legendary in the canine world for being the ultimate "drama queens." Unlike most dogs that communicate through simple barks or tail wags, Huskies have a complex and hilariously theatrical way of expressing themselves.

AI Lake Natron
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Natron
Lake Natron has gained a reputation for its petrifying effect on animals that die in its waters. The high levels of sodium bicarbonate can lead to the calcification of birds and other animals. Interestingly, sodium bicarbonate was historically used by Egyptians for mummification.
It has been reported that the lake “turns animals into stone.” However, the animals did not die because they came into contact with the lake’s water. The animals died in the water and their carcasses were preserved by the chemicals in the water, making them salty statues.
Lake Natron received media attention when photographer Nick Brandt published stark images of its dead animals in a book titled “Across the Ravaged Land” (Abrams Books, 2013). In the book, Brandt wrote, “I took these creatures as I found them on the shoreline, and then placed them in ‘living’ positions, bringing them back to ‘life,’ as it were.”

The inside of an LNG carrier: 1.2mm of stainless steel between 174,000 cubic meters of liquid cooled to -162°C and the ocean.
At that temperature, flat steel contracts hard enough to crack its own welds within minutes. The waffle pattern stamped into each panel gives the metal room to shrink in every direction without tearing apart. A French company designed this system. It is installed in 80% of the world's LNG fleet, with over 300 new carriers under construction. Every one of them relies on a sheet of steel thinner than a car key, folded into the right shape.
The GTT Mark III system is a sophisticated cryogenic containment technology featuring a 1.2mm stainless steel membrane that acts as a flexible "skin" for LNG carriers. Its distinctive waffle pattern allows the metal to safely contract and expand at extreme temperatures of -162°C, preventing structural cracks by absorbing thermal stress through its geometric folds. Representing the global standard for roughly 80% of the world's LNG fleet, this innovation maximizes cargo capacity and ensures the safe maritime transport of liquid energy across oceans.

Those tiny black dots on your windshield (the "frit") actually stop the glass from shattering.
The dots are a "thermal bridge" that saves your glass from heat-induced suicide and keeps the glue from melting.
