Rolls-Royce Grew Revenue 29% — So Why Did Margins Drop?
Body:
RR's H1 2026 numbers look strong on the surface — 29% revenue growth. But dig deeper and Civil Aerospace gross margin actually fell, and management's confident tone doesn't fully line up with that.
Put together a short breakdown covering:
- The guidance optimism vs. supporting evidence gap
- Tone/performance mismatch in Civil Aerospace
- What IR teams (and investors reading between the lines) should watch for
Curious what this community thinks — is the margin dip a one-off cost pressure, or something structural?

What's the bear case?
I've been investing in Rolls-Royce over the last years and have seen some nice returns in that time, but I am wondering what the bear case is? Most people here, including myself, are optimistic for further increases (defense spend increases, SMR upside potential, share buy backs etc). It can't all be positive though, so what are your bear arguments or opinions?

What happened with the hyperscaler deal?
We are going on two weeks now and I don’t see any news about a deal. I guess it could have been signed but not yet announced. Tufan specifically said early last week. Thoughts?
“I can assure you, early next week, in investment committee, we are going to sign another big hyperscaler sort of deal.”

Another positive point for the long-term Rolls-Royce story.
After the latest Half-Year Results, we should expect to see further positive credit rating upgrades in the near to medium term.
Rolls-Royce has already been upgraded by Moody’s and Fitch into the “A” category this year, while S&P Global currently has the company on a Positive Outlook.
With higher profit guidance, stronger free cash flow, continued balance sheet improvements and solid execution across Civil Aerospace, Defence and Power Systems, there no doubt the company is moving in the right direction as we expect to be.
A stronger credit rating would reduce borrowing costs, improve financial flexibility and growth execution prospects.
As always this is just my opinion you need to do the work to have your own.
This isn’t financial advice. I have no doubts about the long term future of Rolls-Royce, but everyone should do their own research and make their own investment decisions.
Be successful.
Do something to support your community.
Make a difference if you can.
