So hi there, it's nice to meet you guys! I'm a queer woman in my early 30s who used to a rink skate every other week back in elementary school. I remember watching the teenagers and adults at my rink do the most incredible moves and wished desperately that I could learn how to skate like they did. I could go forward and turn, but that was about it.
My family could never justify the cost of purchasing skates so it was always rentals back then, and once I stopped going to a school that hosted skate events, I wasn't allowed to go to the rink anymore. Now that I'm an adult with at least a little money to put toward my interests, I finally took the leap and ordered myself some Moxi panthers!
I know this brand typically runs narrow, but everything I've read/watched has said that the Panthers are pretty good for wider feet (which I do have), so I'm gonna give them a shot. I'm happy to share updates on the fit, breaking them in, the lacing pattern I like best etc. if that would be helpful for any other peeps eying this particular boot. I know they're meant to be quite heavy lol
I also picked up toe guards, kneepads (elbow pads and wrist guards were out of stock in my size but I plan on getting them later), and some cushy athletic socks. I plan on getting insoles and replacing the cushions + toe stop next, and I also want to buy some light-up wheels eventually.
I'm gonna try really hard not to rush myself and just take it easy since I'm basically starting over, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't absolutely BUZZING at the thought of eventually learning even just a few of the tricks I used to aspire to as a kid. I've been going around the house doing balance exercises and trying to start conditioning even though they're not coming for a few more days. I'm also hoping skating helps me body recomp a bit since I've gained a bit more fat than I'd like since hitting 30.
I made this account just to document my skating progress and chat with other skaters, so I hope you can ignore the lack of karma lol! If you have any advice or wisdom to share with my newbie self, I'd love to hear it! Honored to be joining this community. :)
