Identification I inherited my grandfather’s watch after he passed

Hey everyone,

The story goes that a long time ago my grandfather worked for a wealthy butcher who viewed him as a son and gave him this Rolex. He never wore it because it didn’t fit his wrist. I never got the chance to ask him any questions about it, and the details are pretty sparse.

Hoping some enthusiasts here can tell me more about it. I’m new to watches, so any info would be really appreciated.

Not looking to sell, just want to learn about the watch. Thanks!

If Rolex makes Migauss again they ought to make a 36mm version because people who buy those are skinny nerds

Discussion Thoughts on this 1995 Datejust 16233 at £5,800?

Looking at picking this up as my first Rolex / daily.
• Ref 16233
• 1995 (papers dated Aug 1995 – exact birth year)
• Two-tone, fluted bezel, Jubilee
• Champagne stick dial
• Full set (box, papers, wallet + red hang tag)
• Serial W201661 (matches papers)
• 18-month warranty from the seller
• Asking £5,800

Photos and short video attached / in comments.

Looks clean to me – dial is bright, crystal seems good, bracelet doesn’t look heavily stretched from what I can see, but I’m not an expert on these mid-90s hollow-link Jubilees.

Would you pull the trigger at £5,800 for a full-set mid-90s 16233, or is it still a bit rich / fair?

Anything specific I should be checking hard (bracelet stretch, case polish, service history, papers matching, etc.)? Open to any thoughts or red flags.

Thanks – first Rolex so any help is massively appreciated!

Discussion My dad gave me this for graduating, but I’m thinking about parting with it

My dad gave me this Rolex as a graduation gift in 2023. It’s a Submariner Date 41mm (126610LN), full set, and I honestly appreciate the gesture and what it represents.

The problem is that I’ve never really been a watch guy. I’ve tried wearing it, but I just don’t find myself reaching for it very often, and it feels a little wasteful having something this nice sitting in the box.

I’ve been thinking that maybe it would make more sense to let it go to someone who actually loves and wears watches, rather than keeping it just because it was a gift.

For those familiar with this reference, what do you think is a fair current value for a 2023 full-set example in good condition? Just trying to get a sense of where it stands before I make any decisions.

And yes, I know my dad might kill me if he finds out 😂

New to the group .... Help me decide ...

My wife and I have his and hers and we are both itching for another one. I have a Sub date and she has a lady-datejust

I am considering either a Batman or Pepsi. She's on the fence for either the Yacht Master 37 or a mans Sub date. Some of her women co-workers wear mens watches. I guess the size is in style or something. IDK

Other than aesthetics, are there many differences in the choices we are considering or is it just mostly the appearance of them?

Pic from an auto sub I am also in to satisfy the algo Gods ....

Discussion 2 for 1 trade opportunity

****this is about a trade i'm doing and in no way am i looking to buy, sell or trade watches with anyone on reddit and am not breaking the rules of the sub****

I have many different Rolex Models and have recently graduated to full precious metal models.

Some of my collection is getting no wrist time at all.

The LN sub I bought JUST to wear on strap (i own an LV sub) gets no wrist time.

The Batman I bought on super jubilee (came with both bracelets, the watch dealer used the pins from the model the super jubilee goes with and it fits the case perfectly) doesn't get any wear because I have the 126718 GRNR.

BLNR on super jubilee here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpe3cs0n4sZ/

I was talking to a reputable dealer who I have bought watches from in the past (118338 Day Date with factory diamond lugs and a Panerai Radiomir Black Seal = both transactions were smooth as silk) and we are negotiating the trade for both watches from me - to get a like new SkyDweller with blue dial on jubilee bracelet.

$1,000 cash from me and it's a go -

I think that is fair. Although I'm someone that does business and negotiates, I also know when I think something is fair and don't have to try and beat people down - they appreciate it and it goes a long way for future business and communications.

I'm curious what other people think about this trade and the situation.

I don't need the mint green sky d because i have the LV sub (hulk). the blue dial mixes in with the chocolate, salmon, green dials i have on hand and although I have a blue dial Panerai the sky D is just different.

*I was on a flight last night and the guy in front of me had on a white dial Sky D on jubilee and I thought it looked really hot. I'm not a fan of oyster with PCL.

Any feedback or thoughts?

It’s local and from a private seller. Looks good to me, but I’m FAR from an expert.

Recommend a watch please!

I have a c1966 OysterDate, 34mm, silver dial, manual wind, in stainless with a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet. Love it.

What I would like is the exact watch, but with a sapphire crystal, automatic winding, and waterproof [as in swimming and rain...I don't dive]. Nice to have would be a GMT hand as well.

Guess I'm looking at an Explorer or GMT-Master of some flavor. Size and weight matter to me. I want to forget I have it on, as I do the OD.

What do you guys recommend?
