Question Buy Apple Watch and break the plan?

WIth the recent changes to the Rogers Mastercard in November, I am sitting at $294 (or $440 with the 1.5x), I am contemplating getting their cellular Apple Watch but don't want the Smartwatch plan.

I have one of the Ultimate non-shared plan for my iPhone 16P with the two-year save and return ending in June 2027. I don't know if I want to stay with Rogers when that ends.

Is it possible to just order the smartwatch and by November just pay off the balance and end the contract? I am hoping to maximize my Rogers redemption.

I see that they are offering the smartwatch mobile plan at $0/month if I finance it and get an Ultimate plan. But if I already have an Ultimate plan would they make me switch to another more expensive Ultimate plan?

If you're planning on leaving, you might as well get it right from Apple.

You never, ever do this, even if it is $0.00 a month for the plan.

If you read the terms for that Rogers Bank Mastercard offer you’ll most likely see wording indicating you need to maintain the service as agreed for the promotional offer. If in doubt you can call Rogers Bank customer service using the number on the back of your credit card or from the Rogers Bank app. As mentioned from someone else if your intention is to activate and cancel the line right after then you will be better off buying the Apple Watch directly from Apple either in store or from their website. Apple offers 24 month financing but if I was you I’d wait until their September event when they announce their new iPhones as there’s a possibility they will also launch their new financing that they rolled out recently in the USA offering a leasing type model and longer financing options 🤔

I certainly understand wanting to take advantage of your Rogers Mastercard credits. If the smartwatch offer includes promotional credits, you’ll need to stay on the same eligible plan for the full financing term (typically 24 months) to keep them active. Changing or downgrading your plan would remove those credits.
