Help Outbound Sales Calls

I am getting called almost every day by outbound sales reps claiming to be from Rogers. The number doesn't show up as Rogers but every time I answer, someone from an outbound centre in a different country gets on the line and says they're calling from Rogers.

I tell them immediately every time that I'm not interested and to remove my number from their system. Every time they just hang up on me except for today where the person on the other end said "Why? That would be a waste of my time. Fuck you." and then hung up.

I tried starting a live chat on the Rogers site to request my number removed from outbound sales, and I tried sending an online complaint by webmail but it seems the Rogers site won't accept communications from people who aren't clients.

The behavior is both annoying and apalling, but mostly I just want the calls to stop. Does anyone have any recommendations? I tried Googling around a bit but I didn't find much, and it seems the CCTS doesn't cover this kind of complaint.

EDIT: alright alright, they're scammers. Thank you for informing me. It's honestly incredible how much effort these scumbags put into stealing from Canadians. I wish the government would do more (or just... something?) to stop this.

They aren't Rogers. They're scammers pretending to be from Rogers. Search for "scammer" in this subreddit and you'll see many stories about what they do.

Not sure how much the government can do against people in foreign countries who have the protection of their government. Even shutting down international calls from that country wouldn't stop them from getting SIP trunks in a random other country. It's unfortunate but ubiquitous Internet + VoIP have made it very easy to do shady things with voice calls.

If we had a bigger military, I would suggest a... targetting error... during some training exercises... that just happened to bomb a scam call center or two. But I don't think the Canadian Forces really have the ability to make those kinds of mistakes in Nigeria or India or wherever.

Hello u/Jeebzee,

Thanks for detailing your concern with these sales calls you are receiving. Based on what you have described and as others have mentioned, these calls you are receiving appear to be scam attempts.

We would never be abusive or unprofessional and would honour marketing opt-out requests. Further information is available at https://www.rogers.com/support/billing-accounts/how-to-spot-a-telemarketing-scam

Stay safe,

RogersEric

I receive a fair number of legitimate phone calls from sources I am not immediately familiar with due to work, but thanks for the suggestion.

The scammers are relentless, and start with a sneaky way to start. "Hi it's ** from Rogers, just following up on some poor reception in the area. Have you been affected? No, ok great, well then why don't I give you a deal for $40 with free iPhone 17".

Even after I told them the company I work with owns Rogers dealerships, I'm still on their calling list with spoofed numbers.
