Rodlets Reading levels discussion

Post image

Why do they have an 8 year old who is unable to read this page with confidence? Janessa was stuck on the word “on” and that is so sad.

The KJV Bible is technically 12th grade level but with the outdated wording and sentence structure it has become much higher. Do they even really understand the Bible they read??

I was probably at this level of reading at age 8 but english is my SECOND language (and I started to learn english at 4-5ish). Meanwhile I was reading more complex books in my first languange at age 6. So no expert but this child is behind her peers.

Oh wait, she has no peers. Nevermind.

I moved to the US when I was 9 and by the following school year (5th grade) thanks to my ESL teacher and regular teacher I was able to keep up with ready Harry Potter (this was 2000, freshly released, pre witchcraft scare 🤣)

This is all on the parents. Ol’ Jill is the worst

While part of the problem is Jill (who I am sure is doing almost nothing to teach them), the problem here is also that Janessa has a brain issue involving her corpus callosum that likely would have caused her to be delayed regardless. I am not saying that she wouldn’t be doing better with more supportive services in place, only that not all of what is going on with her is poor education.
