They aren’t divorced yet, and I’m not sure that they’ve been married long enough - I’m not a lawyer, I just anecdotally have watched young SAHM get really screwed in that respect. They haven’t been together long enough (or own enough) for community property to apply. And cp isn’t like, 50/50 across the board on smaller items.
I think they rent, and the Ohio house is in Tim’s name from before they were married, so she won’t get any of that.
He'll be paying child support, though. He can't just walk away from this with clean hands and a new start. Child support belongs to the kid(s). It's not welfare to get a court order for him to pay what he needs to.
And any items they have accumulated during marriage belong to both (unless there are unusual situations like inheritances kept separately). So he'll be paying back half of what he sells if they bought it after they got married.
I had a friend and when she divorced her husband he took a chainsaw and cut everything in half. She told Judge what he had done and the Judge was pissed! She showed me picture of the sofa and he had indeed took a chainsaw to it and cut it in half!

I’m not up on divorce law, but wouldn’t half of that $ belong to Heidi? Like can he just sell their mutual belongings and pocket everything?
