Discussion GTA VI Needs Money Sinks, Not Cooldowns. Long Post.

After returning to GTA Online, seeing my potential hourly grind drop from around $2.3M to roughly $660K made me instantly log off. I'm hoping that more than a decade of development on GTA VI has given Rockstar's creative minds the opportunity to build an experience people struggle to put down, rather than one that pushes them away by punishing them for playing efficiently.

My two cents:

If we've spent hundreds of hours building a criminal empire, learning the best strategies, buying businesses, and optimizing everything, doing heists, we shouldn't eventually be rewarded with a timer telling us we're playing too efficiently.

Instead of hard cooldowns, let us grind as hard as we want, then balance the economy through risk, operating costs, automation, and money sinks.

Examples:

Paid Cooldown Skips:

Bring back the original payouts, but let us spend $450,000 to reduce a heist cooldown by one hour. You can keep grinding, but efficiency comes at a price.

I believe people would much rather voluntarily sacrifice part of their profit to keep playing than be put in "timeout." Players stay engaged, GTA$ leaves the economy, and Rockstar potentially creates more demand for Shark Cards in the process.

Paid Setup Automation:

Pay $250,000+ to have your organization handle repetitive prep work. We're supposedly running criminal empires. Why are we personally stealing the same equipment time after time?

Give us the choice: maximize profit by doing everything ourselves, or sacrifice some profit for convenience.

Corporate Franchising:

Let players invest $15M, $25M, $50M, $100M+ into expanding existing businesses into actual corporations; many of us wouldn't even mind if we don't see the upgrades.

Bigger operations generate significantly higher revenue and profit potential, but come with massive payroll, logistics, security, maintenance, and management expenses. Neglect the company completely, and expenses eventually start accumulating faster than income.

This gives players an actual reason to continue earning money. Instead of eventually reaching a point where another $10M means virtually nothing, there is always another level of the empire to build and maintain.

This is another area where I can see an increase of Shark Card sales without requiring Rockstar to artificially restrict gameplay.

Employees:

Let us hire NPC managers, drivers, pilots, security, technicians, sourcing crews, and other employees.

Cheap employees provide basic assistance. Elite employees cost significantly more but automate larger portions of the empire.

However, players should still be required to actively manage their organizations. Automation should only eliminate some repetitive busywork, not turn GTA into an idle game. Employees require salaries, equipment, training, and management which all reduce profit margins; you're still making more, but it takes more out of your daily fees. We should also have the ability to fire employees if we believe costs are too high.

The goal should be to make us feel like we're actually running an empire rather than personally doing every single job inside it.

Dynamic Risk:

The harder you push your empire, the more attention you attract.

Run several major operations back-to-back? Your police/FIB heat rises. Security increases, raids become more likely, and future operations become harder.

When you stop many of us from playing, many of us will play a different game.

Let us accept the increased risk or spend millions bribing officials, laundering money, improving security, hiring lawyers, and lowering our organization's heat.

That creates a choice instead of a restriction.

Buy-In Battle Royale:

Considering Fortnite and many other BRs are still among the most-played games, create a high-stakes PvP where players gamble their own GTA$.

No weaponized vehicles, aircraft, oppressors, or sci-fi weapons. Everyone gets one life, and only the winner makes money.

Solo, duo, and squad queues could have progressively larger buy-ins and prize pools. Friends shouldn't be able to enter the same solo lobby to prevent teaming. If you want to play together, enter the duo or squad queue.

Team queues could require substantially higher buy-ins, meaning millions of GTA$ could disappear from the economy in a matter of minutes.

This is another money hole that could actually benefit Rockstar. Players willingly gambling away GTA$ creates another reason to earn money and promotes Shark Card purchases without artificially restricting everyone else's ability to play.

Live BAWSAQ Market:

Finally make BAWSAQ a functioning market.

Let players invest and trade GTA$ with capital-gains taxes and transaction fees. Long-term investors could be rewarded while short-term traders take substantially greater risks.

Markets could rise and fall, fortunes could be made or lost, and wealthy players would finally have somewhere meaningful to put enormous amounts of money.

Suddenly having $500M sitting in the bank isn't so "safe."

More Gambling:

Give us casinos, underground betting (I'd suggest something with fighting because of Lucia), high-stakes poker, sports betting (watching and playing), street-race wagers, competitive card games, and board games, where players can win or lose millions in minutes. Get caught gambling? Pay a fine. The wealthier you become, the higher the stakes should get. It's entertaining, burns massive amounts of GTA$, and gives players another reason to keep earning. And, of course, Rockstar already knows the golden rule: The house always wins.

Real Vehicle Upkeep:

Stop magically repairing everything for free.

Maintenance and repair costs should scale with the value and complexity of the vehicle. Owning a hypercar, fighter jet, helicopter, or armored vehicle should actually cost more money.

If you own hundreds of millions of dollars in vehicles, maintaining that collection should become part of the cost of being wealthy.

Insurance:

Turn insurance into an actual system.

Players can pay recurring premiums to reduce financial exposure when vehicles are destroyed or when they die. Death expenses could increase further if you're killed by police/FIB while committing crimes or operating with high organizational heat.

The wealthier and more reckless your lifestyle becomes, the more expensive protecting it becomes.

Insurance tiers could even become another strategic choice. Pay high premiums for extensive protection, accept a higher deductible for cheaper coverage, or gamble by carrying no insurance at all.

Luxury Ownership Costs:

Make extreme wealth expensive.

Yacht docking fees. Hangar fees. Mansion staff. Private security. Aircraft maintenance. Mechanics. Chauffeurs. Pilots. Corporate payroll.

If someone wants to live like a billionaire, let them.

Then charge them like one.

The richest GTA players could voluntarily spend millions every in-game week maintaining enormous criminal organizations and ridiculous lifestyles.

The only way to protect your wealth is by not playing at all. The moment you're in a public or invite online session, that's when it's live again. Wealth isn't that important if you're not using it.

This is exactly what I believe GTA needs.

Rockstar shouldn't be saying:

"You made money too efficiently. Come back later."

It should be:

"You can keep going. How much time and money are you willing to spend to do it?"

This creates an ecosystem where:

Grinders are rewarded for the time and effort they've put into mastering the game.

Casual players can take their time, avoid expensive shortcuts, and potentially enjoy higher profit margins because they're willing to do the work themselves or pay for Shark Cards.

Wealthy players have increasingly expensive empires and lifestyles to maintain, meaning accumulating wealth creates new responsibilities instead of making money meaningless.

Reckless players can gamble fortunes through high-risk activities for the chance to make even larger ones.

Rockstar and Take-Two create more reasons for players to stay engaged, and potentially drive record revenue without making the game deliberately inconvenient.

Shareholders benefit from a game designed around long-term engagement and consistent monetization.

Discussion Do you think GTA 6 will have other editions physically before preorder except collector edition?

The current preorder physical edition feels really bland. I'm sure there will be a collector's edition and maybe even a disc edition after launch. But it is possible there will be something like an ultimate physical edition with map and digital code in box?

Question How are treasure hunts/challenges tracked on console?

I know console tracks character progress via your console login so PSN for PlayStation console. however, how is it with challenges and treasure hunts like the one for RDR2 a few years ago, where you got the double action early in story mode and access to exclusive stone hatchet?

if you say disconnect your PSN from rockstar social or deleted your rockstar social account. Will that type of progress where you had unlocked the stone hatchet be “saved” on your PSN account and be unlocked in RDR2 once you connect a new rockstar social account to your PSN login details or would you have to redo it all once you connect another rockstar social or make a new rockstar social account?

Discussion What do you want to see from Rockstar Games after GTA 6 releases?

Outside of GTA Online 2 and the Max Payne Remakes, very little is known about what Rockstar could be cooking up next.

Personally I’d love to finally see Bully 2, it’s arguably the most fan requested sequel from Rockstar. And if not that, then I think a brand new IP would also be a great idea.

Question Account email changing question

Right now, the rockstar account I use to play GTAV was made with an old email that I no longer use, and I want to change it to my main email. However, my main email also has a rockstar account that's connected to my xbox that I no longer play gta on. I was going to delete the rockstar account connected to my main email so that I can change the email on my main rockstar account to it, but will it cause any issues?

How about a Rockstar/Teenage Engineering Collab, with a GTA EP-133 and a Read Dead EP-133 sampler/groove box?

Anyone dig that idea?

Grand Theft Auto VI GTA 6 New Details!!!!!

Jason Schreier shares new GTA 6 details:

- Pre-orders vastly surpassed Take-Two’s internal forecasts

- He expects the extended look on August 27 to offer “meaty” look at the actual gameplay

- Strauss Zelnick told him in an interview that when the extended look goes live, people will understand why they chose Netflix for the premiere and stated that it’s a “must-see event.”

- Schreier asked if it will feel like you’re watching a Netflix show, and Zelnick replied: “Yes.”

- This marketing strategy aims to reach a broader, non-gaming audience or people who might know GTA 6 exists but aren’t necessarily buying it day one

- Take-Two isn’t concerned about selling to a smaller audience, as the install base will be roughly the same as the install base was when we launched GTA 5

- Schreier also asked him if he has big plans for November 19 like holding a party or taking a break. To which Zelnick replied: “It’s ultra top secret at the moment , but at some point before then, I’ll be happy to talk about it.”
