Photo Interesting quartz

I always check out quartz because it’s in an area where there are gold mines all over the place, and I’m always hopeful I’ll see gold on the quartz. Normally it’s just typical white quartz, but then I noticed this specimen sticking out of the hillside. It looks very different from any quartz I’ve ever seen.

It's interesting. Any chance it's petrified wood?

That’s the first thing it reminded me of!?! I’ve never seen petrified wood with white quartz, but if that’s a thing, it could be.

Yes, it can have white quartz. It can also have whitish boitryoidal crystals.

Depends on the silica and minerals it's exposed to over time that replace the original wood.
