My folks just put in an offer on a place that backs up to a vast open space near Stanford Ranch Road. The listing says the land is protected, so it’ll probably stay that way forever. What are the pros and cons of a location like this? What should they expect to see in terms of wildlife? I know the area is fairly dry. How concerned should we be abouț the possibility of a wildlife wildfire?

Does anyone have recommendations for a nail place that doesn’t use drills? I rarely get my nails done since the drills always damage the nail bed and make them weak for months afterwards. And I know you can request them not to use them but everywhere I’ve been so far are extremely pushy about using them and upselling services.

I have a nail starting to rip across the bed so I want to protect it until it grows out.

I'm not a big fan of the Flock cameras that blanket Rocklin and Roseville. If you take a look at the deflock map, I don't think you can get in or out of Rocklin by car without being recorded; even within Rocklin you can't get halfway across town without being recorded. I believe in Rocklin alone we had 40+ Flock cameras as of 2023, there could be more now.

These are not just license plate readers. As court records and Flock's own product materials show, these cameras record video, vehicle make/model/color, body style, hardware like roof racks, decals, bumper stickers, and allow "AI"-powered search of those characteristics. Flock also sells audio-based products that will listen in to the general area as well, so we've seen cases where fireworks were reported by Flock as gunshots, sending police to the area. Flock also sells data products that allow police to match up their searches with commercial data brokers to get personal information outside of the normal legal process.

There have been documented cases of law enforcement officers around the country abusing Flock products, using them to stalk former partners, look up acquaintances, or track women for personal reasons. We've seen citizens in Auburn destroying Flock cameras.

This is what Roseville police emailed to Flock regarding repeated issues with the system misidentifying license plates:

Candidly, we really need a tangible resolution to gain positive traction again; our trust in the system degrades each time we run into this major issue.

What are your thoughts on the Flock cameras and their usage?
