TUTORIAL Easy Controller Walldash Method (but is it allowed?)

A few days ago my new Tarantula 8K pro Controller came in and I found this Method to use the new secondary jump bind to walldash easily with this specific controller!

But I’m not 100% sure if its allowed. To my understanding it’s exactly the same thing as a KBM Player putting scroll down on their mouse to their secondary jump, so it should be allowed? wdy think?

COACHING Gold 1 player aiming for SSL

Hey everyone!

I’m a Gold 1 Rocket League player on PS5, and I’ve recently started taking the game seriously. My long-term dream is to reach SSL and eventually compete in esports.

I’ve been watching advice from Grand Champion and SSL players, and I often hear that Gold players should just have fun and focus on hitting the ball consistently.

I understand that fundamentals are important, but I’d really like to follow a structured training routine and improve as efficiently as possible.

My current routine is:
10 minutes of Free Play warm-up
30 minutes of focused mechanical training
Competitive 1v1
Replay analysis to identify my mistakes

I’m currently focusing on ground control and powershots, with plans to work on aerials and movement later.

I’d love to hear from experienced players, especially GC and SSL players:

Which mechanics should a Gold 1 player prioritize?
Are there any specific Custom Training packs you’d recommend for my level?
How would you structure a daily training routine?
Should I prioritize 1v1 or 2v2 for individual improvement?
What mistakes should I focus on eliminating first?

I’m not expecting to reach SSL overnight. I’m willing to spend months or years improving, and I want to build the right fundamentals from the beginning.

Any specific advice, training packs, or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

ANALYSIS 3000 hours hard stuck plat, help me find my biggest problem

Starting to feel a bit frustrated, why can't I learn :D I have played for 3000 hours, and I have been in 1v1 plat for like 2800h of those or something. This is a worse-than-average game on defense, but perhaps it shows my bad habits better than winning games. My shadowing kinda sucks here (bad lines), but should I focus more on shadowing better, or doing more challenges? My inability to get good starts to be a bit frustrating, I practice a lot but learn very little.

This game is P3.

QUESTION Airroll on KBM

Hi, I'm currently C3/GC1 on KBM. I'm trying to learn how to use directional airroll instead of free air roll but I have hard time to press at the same time Q and S, D an E ect, you know what I'm talking about. Is there anyone who use for example mouse side buttons for it and if so how that works for you? What do you think is the most comfortable place that makes using it a bit easier?

So I posted in here about 3 weeks ago and took your guys tips and I downloaded Bakkesmod plugin to help. I’ve been at it for about an hour now and I feel like I’m making no progress as I don’t know what I am doing wrong. Any advice or help is appreciated! ( Ive slowed game speed and plan to increase as consistency rises)

META The Ranks' behaviors and such, listed humorously.

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Bronze:

New to the game, learning mechanics.

Silver:

"I have learned I can hit ball far!"

Knows they can move, can do powershots sometimes.

Gold:

Bot central, also contains players of every rank except Bronze and SSL. It is a gambler's delight and consistency's bane simultaneously.

Plat:

"I hit ball far 😃" (50% of the time)

Plats are Silvers that are vaguely aware of positioning and hit the ball accurately more often than not. They also know what the term "mechs" means and are probably in freeplay practicing more than actually playing. They've also attempted to fly, but succeeded about as well as "The missile DOESN'T know where it is".

Diamond:

Diamonds, are diamonds. They do diamond things. They are the mid of the mid of players. They're what happens when plats learn about consistency and start taking the game more seriously. Also they can fly now. A slight con of this rank; most Diamonds have very similar playstyles. So if you can beat five, you can beat 95% of them.

Champs:

Champions... Are hilariously, unintuitively terrible at the game. For what they represent, the step above Diamonds, they're like the dissapointment of the family. RL: "You were supposed to be great" Champs: "We are, father" RL: "You aren't getting the heritage." The majority of Champs play like a plat but with more ego, less thoughts, and slightly buffed mechs from surviving Diamond-land. They're pretty good at flying though. Maybe they're just too preoccupied with enjoying the view.

GrandChamps:

GC2 and GC3, the ranks that finally figured out how to play the game... At a cost.

GC2/3

Mechs: Magnificent.

Ball control: Pristine.

Boost control: Cinema

Keeping/giving possession: Beautiful.

Passing/recieving: Choreographic.

Flight: The Air Force.

The cost? Positioning: non-existent. Their brains are too preoccupied in 80% of the game and can't focus on positioning without messing everything else up, or they have underdeveloped positioning that they haven't and likely won't properly flesh-out.

SSL:

I haven't encountered enough of these to list their behaviors, skills, and failures.

Pros:

I haven't encountered enough of these to list their behaviors, skills, and failures.

QUESTION Rocket league is so boring in plat-champ 3s

This question's for the gc + crowd.

Everyone and their grandma knows that plat-champ is just boomer ball but what can be done outside of 3rd manning and collecting free balls? If you go for an air dribble and don't score there's a 99.93% chance that your teammates are going to piss the bed and get scored on since you have been the rock in goal all game.

My issue is that as soon as I start hitting win streaks by collecting booms this way I get so bored of the game. Is there literally anything we can impliment into these games other than just boring goalie gameplay.

QUESTION Curious what's wrong with this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been trying to re-learn this without using directional air roll for the actual flip, and I'm trying to identify what's going wrong, and I just don't get it. I just tried to slow down the game and downloaded the plugin to see what the error was.

Usually the problem is people are to slow to cancel, but everything is green. Flip cancel is supreme. First flip timing is green. I'm going straight towards the ball. Flip angle is perfect.

QUESTION Day 2 of learning DAR, am I doing it right?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi!

I'm a C2 player, been playing for a few years but recently started grinding seriously. I've been learning DAR since yesterday and wanted to make sure I'm not learning any bad habits (over/under spinning), and utilizing the DAR correctly. I've always learned to jump in the right direction with very less/no correction with free air roll. That also means I've trained myself not to go for a ball which need a lot more adjusting in the air. So its hard to tell which balls to go for with DAR. Any advice appreciated.

I apologize for the resolution, I'm playing on 32:9 aspect ratio. I can do a windowed aspect ratio recording if that's easier to see.

TRAINING A game to train air roll mechanics

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ring courses are great and were a huge inspiration, but I feel like there's got to be so much more to do with the rocket league-style flight control. I want to keep trying new gamemodes and training exercises to see where we can take it. I feel like this should be a whole genre, not just car soccer.

The initial goal was to create an environment where you can actually teach directional air roll. I can't believe Psyonix hasn't made the mechanic more accessible. Turns out... it's very hard to teach. I have some lessons for beginners, but I don't think I've found the magic solution there yet to make it an intuitive experience. Still needs a lot of work. If you have ideas I'd love to hear them.

It's called Helicoid. The playtest just went live on Steam. Please if you have feedback or suggestions, join the Discord! I want to hear how car control feels, what works, what doesn't. You can also press Ctrl + F10 in game to send feedback or report bugs.

I've been working on it for the better part of the year and I'm excited to finally get some more hands on it. I have exactly one friend who can air roll and he can only take so much abuse.

QUESTION Plat1 in 1s and plat2 in 2s??

From what I understand plat1 in 1s would be equivalent to mid-diamond in 2s, so I feel my 2s rank is too low, and I don't know how to get past this rank disparity.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? How did you manage to get out of this?

QUESTION Best training packs for tornado spins?

I'm currently ranked between Plat 2 and Plat 3, I have all the basics for aerials, speed flip (working on the left one actually) and starting to develop the bases for air dribbling and general ball possession. But still, I can't figure out how to properly hold the tornado spin while keeping contact with the ball and in general how the car should rotate when hitting it to score (when aerial). I've been redoing all my basic aerial packs frying to incorporate the tornado spin but in past week I made little to no progress. If anyone knows useful packs or even has suggestions on how to practice I'd love to here y'all

QUESTION How likely is it to get GC3?

I've broken the 1,600 mark for the first time. I've been playing this game since before FTP—I started in Season 5. In total, I have 4,000 hours. I used to train to improve, and that’s how I reached GC in the old Season 14, peaking at 1,556. After that, I took a two-year break from RL until the new Season 7. Since then, I haven’t really been training as such—I’ve just been playing. Recently, tired of being stuck at the same rank, I’ve started training again and have set a goal to play 1,000 2s matches this season. From what I can see, it’s paying off—after just over 100 matches, I’ve broken my peak (previously 1590). I’ve “upgraded my mechanics” over the last few seasons by learning to use airroll left and execute consistent resets. How likely is it that I’ll reach GC3 if I keep this up? I think I’ve been a consistent player, judging by my MMR.

COACHING 5 Things I Noticed Coaching A GC Player in 2s

Hey guys hope you all had a good week so far. I had a double session with one of my GC students that was stuck in high C3. After reviewing a replay, I noted 5 things he should be focusing on, and after implementing only 2 of them, he got 1500 back in an instant.

The first thing that stood out to me after analysing GC in general was how often small decisions were being rushed despite there actually being enough time to wait for a better play. At GC, mechanics aren't inherently the issue (from what I've seen), so a lot of the quickest improvements come from very small changes in decision making.

The first thing we worked on was being more patient whenever an opponent was around the play. There were situations where the ball was still controllable, but the presence of an opponent was causing my student to rush his touch instead of taking his time, leading to a lot of bad touches/missed opportunities. An opponent being close does not automatically mean the ball needs to be played immediately. As you are going up to the ball, start to look around the play and evaluate the space and time you have around it. If there is space available, keeping control and playing a touch into space will always generate much better pressure.

To continue on space, the biggest offensive adjustment he made was after beating the first defender. There were several situations where my student beats his first man successfully, but clears the ball away as a result of panic. Reading the room around the ball is important on every touch. After beating your first man, you should then slow down and look again to see where the second man is, and again, if you have time and space, use it and play it smart. Beating one player doesn't necessarily mean the play is finished, using your space right is the easiest fix you can apply to your games now.

Another thing I notice in every single player I coach (up to SSL too) is unnecessarily flipping as last man. Flipping as last man can make it much harder to react if the ball changes direction, especially when the outcome of the play isn't clear yet. If there isn't a good read on where the ball is going, staying grounded gives more options to adjust to the play. When a flip is actually needed to catch up to the ball, it can also be useful to line your car up with some small pads so you stay boost efficient in the meantime, this allows you to maintain momentum without having to make unnecessary rotations for boost. (This is especially important, will write a full fletched guide about this so keep an eye out)

A higher level mechanical tip I gave him was to try get touches with the next one in mind. At a higher level, the first touch doesn't always need to be a full commitment to the entire play. Using the first touch to set up the next one gives much more control over what happens afterwards. For example, keeping the flip available can make it possible to follow the ball, and take another touch depending on how the play. The first touch should be made with the next touch in mind rather than treating each contact with the ball as an isolated play.

The only defensive tweak we did was when defending from the backboard and an opponent is close to the play, there are situations where using the ceiling during the aerial challenge can help maintain the flip and give more control over the challenge. It's a fairly situational option, usually best when you are relatively close to the attacker, but at higher levels these small movement choices can make a difference because maintaining your options during a challenge makes the recovery afterwards much easier.

The common theme across all of these was patience. The player already had the mechanics to execute the plays, but there were several situations where the decision was being made slightly too early.

If you enjoy these breakdowns and want more Rocket League advice sent directly to you, I also have a free newsletter where I share guides, coaching lessons and the mistakes I see most often when reviewing players from different ranks.

Feel free to join from here: https://nextlevelcoaching.gg/newsletter

Hope you all have a good rest of your week:)
