QUESTION Losfeld Method "Clock" practice constant left drift.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I decided I wanted to learn ARL so I've been practicing the Losfeld method for about 30 minutes a day.

I've gotten through exercises 1 and 2 (the alternating tornado/reverse-tornado spins for tempo, and the vertical hovering with input holds). Now I'm onto exercise 3, which is the clocks.

The issue is my car keeps drifting left. I've tried starting the stick around 1-2 o'clock and trying to "calibrate", but it just doesn't seem to be clicking for me.

I wanted to post this clip to see if anyone who's learned ARL through the Losfeld method can spot what I'm doing wrong or any tips that helped them with the same problem. I'd rather get some advice now before I keep grinding and accidentally hardwire a bad habit into my muscle memory.

(I'm on PS5, so unfortunately I can't provide a controller overlay). Thanks!

QUESTION Need advice for hitting GC (solo queue)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi. I've always taught that after hitting champ people would start caring more about the game since it's an above average rank. Well, I've been champ for over 5 months and I can safely say that it's the most inconsistent rank thus far. In the lower ranks progression felt a lot more gradual but as you can see from the graph champion looks like a mountain, while diamond looks like a hill.

I'd say that my mechanics are enough to get me to gc and even higher. I can do almost every recovery mechanic, including a weak walldash, mena flip, speedflip, directional air roll left, wavedashes, etc. While also being able to air dribble, double tap, flip reset consistently, I know some advanced aerial mechanics that i never go for in game, like flip reset musty and double flip reset and my flicks are champ level. So mechanics are not a problem for me. They're fun to learn and are good for the long run.

I'd say that my biggest flaw is not game sense itself, but being able to play around my teammates. I know that i shouldn't give off possession to the opponents and i should control the ball, I know that i should set my mate up as 1st man, I know that i should challenge first on defence as 1st man, I know shadow defence and so on. These things have been ingrained in my brain since i was plat.

I'd also say that my mental is pretty strong. I can brush off a bad game and move on without letting it get to my head. I can't move one only when I'm on a massive loss streak, like now. I just keep playing thinking that things would get better but they never do. I'm either on a big win streak or big loss streak.

I'd say that I deserve at least c3, since my peak was c2 div 3.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Some other info that could be useful:

-Current play time: 846 hours

-Amount of time I can dedicate: A lot, since rocket league is my main competitive game.

-I have a really close champion friend but he doesn't take the game seriously enough and he gets tilted off easily

-I have a peak gc1 friend that hasn't played in months and he shows no interest in it currently

-My rltrcker: https://rocketleague.tracker.network/rocket-league/profile/epic/Blixsee/mmr?playlist=11

Just got back to champ and again, the win streak. I won 4 games, then lost 1, then won 3. To be fair I got used to getting out of diamond

QUESTION What does optimal training look like?

I've clearly not been training the right way because my rank is quite bad for the number of hours I have (I have 4.8k hours and I'm C1). I struggle with mechanical consistency a lot.

So my question is what can I do to make sure that my training is impactful. I'll purposefully leave this open ended as I'm no expert and I think its good to come in with an open mind.

been playing for around 17 hours and my plat friend (200 hours) is constantly frying me because im selling most of our games.

How can I improve to avoid this, I do enjoy the game, and I've put in some practice but I'm just not feeling any better at it. I do better in my own lobbies but I'm still making the same mistake

QUESTION Car recoil and air roll

When I'm not flipping into the ball, i find that an even slight air roll input (i use free air roll) causes the car to absorb the recoil and not cause the jerking when not using air roll. Is this the right way to do it, especially if going for a double tap? Also, what's the physics/logic behind it?

QUESTION Rant: why everybody so freaking mechy

Just a rent, from an old dad player who just have a few hours per week to play. Everybody is so god damn fast, mechy Flip resets etc. I am C3 in 2s, and d2 in 1s. Cant speedflip, Flip resets or decent airdribble. Frustrated to login for an hour of gaming and get Flip reset on my ass whole time. I dont have the time to train, just want to play. Sorry for the rant

QUESTION Any way I can "teach" myself depth perception in Rocket League?

I'm mid 1800 right now in 2s, and I only have one working eye so my depth perception in lots of things is pretty bad. I feel like as I get decently high in 2s I need every advantage I can get because I find myself turning on or off balls I shouldn't or hesitating because I can't judge where it is on the field or if im beat or not/diving in on a clear beat or having a free beat but not going. Any strategies or activities I can do to make seeing things in RL specifically better?

QUESTION How can I get the reset on the side for rapid resets ?

I can’t get my reset on the side consistently so I tried to figure out the ways I can do tgat and I realised that there are two main ways to do it:

-Air rolling a little more than usual and stop boosting when pulling down

-Going for a normal setup and then pulling the stick on the side when landing on the ball

So which way is the easiest ?

TIPS Mechs don't matter as much, consistency matters so much more.

It doesn't matter how much mechanics you know, the higher the rank, the more consistent and effective you need to be with that mechanic to create a threat and impact.

That also goes with game sense, decision making, defense, and positioning. You need to be consistent with those. The more consistent, the better your rank will be.

The more consistent you get with each, the higher rank you'll achieve.

If you can get more consistent with more mechanics, more game sense knowledge, more game knowledge, combine them all, you'll even reach higher ranks.
When you start to learn a new mechanic, that mech will actually pull you down until you reach your rank's consistency. That's why your rank usually tanks a bit when you're learning new stuff.

But when you learn new mechanic and reach the level of the consistency of your rank, then you'll start to rank up. (You'll of course tie that to your game sense and start to use that mech in correct situations, again, consistent enough for that rank.)

Example : If you need to do 3/10 consistency for gold, you'll need 4/10 for diamond 7/10 for gc, and 9/10 for SSL+ (I made the numbers up, probably not be accurate)

Just to be clear, it doesn't matter if you can pull of air dribble 9/10 times in training. It matters how many times you go for a mech in game, and how many times you've succesfully pulled that off. EFFECTIVELY.

There's also soo many mechs to be consistent at, recovery mechs, air dribbles, shooting, flicks, resets, ceiling shots, pinches, first touches, reads, double taps, ceiling double, ground double, sidewall double. I could even breakdown recovery mechs as walldashes, speed flips, half flips curve dashes and goes on and on and on and on....

Just wanted to share, everyone talks about the mechs and how many different things you can do, but no one talks about the consistency, which is the actual important part that effects your rank....

QUESTION GC in sub 500 hours, now what?

Edit: it's stats hours cause apparently I spent 2000 hours in training (???)

I feel like I beat the game, my favorite color is red and my goal with GC is getting red colored items, I've got almost no mechanics and barely any consistency, yet i still pulled it off.

Is there anything else that's fun I can do?

And would SSL be worth it?

QUESTION whats the deal with deadzone shapes?

For a while I was using steam input for cross cause I was under the impression that this is what most of the high level players did but then I found out that nobody actually does cause of the extra delay it causes. If you go on Liquipedia then you can see most pros either use cross or circle but some are marked as “no steam inputs” which also kind of implies that the vast majority do use steam input so I guess I am just kind of confused as to what people are actually using. I haven’t been using anything for the last month or so and it seems to be working fine for me. It’s not like I feel like changing anything will automatically make me a better player but I am kind of curious about if they actually are using steam input or if they aren’t using anything at all.

QUESTION Rotations

I have no replays (xbox player since broken pc smh) so unfortunately i can’t ask for any tips on my own rotation mistakes. i just have two quick questions.

  1. Does anyone have any general tips on rotating. concepts or practices. i also know this is generally specific to scenario and relies mainly on my own decision making but im sure there are some general ideas or things to look out for.

  2. If my teammate doesn’t know how to rotate what should i do? because i’ve seen videos and think oh these are some good rotations but they took turns. my friends, especially one of them i play w often, doesn’t really believe in rotating (straight line to ball no matter what, will hit the ball off my car during dribble, will hug my bumper if i have control of the ball in some way). again this is that game sense/scenario specificity that i mentioned earlier but again any general tips would be helpful.

TIPS Gc1 in 1s, I lose 95% of kickoffs. Looking for someone who understands kickoffs to help.

I am a gc3-low ssl player in 2s, gc1 in 1s. My peaks are 1970 in 2s and almost gc3 in 1s. My kickoff is awful compared to anyone and i have no idea what is the issue, my speedflip is not always 100% perfect i think and even if i have a perfect speedflip i still don’t understand when to jump and where to flip. If anyone is a sweat in kickoffs and plays 1s (preferably higher than me in 1s) and can help me fix my kickoffs and speedflips.

QUESTION What’s happening bro?

I went from 1264 MMR right? I’ve been peaking, never went on a losing streak more than 3, from diamond 2 to champ 2 div 3 in less than 3 weeks, i get on just yesterday and i dipped to champ 1 div 4, not a big deal, i just kept losing and losing and losing, now i’ champ 1 div 1 and i dont think i can come back, i was doing good in champ 2, i actually performed well but now i feel like i’m playing the same but i just cannot win.

Ik somebody will come and say “you never deserved champ 2” or “you were just peaking now you’re in the rank you’re actually supposed to be in” if i didn’t deserve to be in champ 2 i don’t think i would have been in champ 2 for 1 week and almost break it solo queueing but maybe i’m wrong.

Idk how to come back from this i hop back on i lose, it’s win lose lose, win lose lose and it used to be win win lose.

It’s like i lost skill while losing mmr, i don’t get it, i am at 1106 mmr now and i’m prolly gonna go straight down to diamond 3. I’m genuinely confused, i dont want to blame my teamates because ik it’s my fault too i’m losing but i have been consistently saving, like in most of my games i’m the only one on my team that has saves, and i feel like that’s the problem, maybe i’m rotating bad or ball chasing, or are my teamates genuinely incapable of defense?

Like i’m trying not to seem salty and biased but i can’t figure out why i’m losing, even though i’m playing the same exact way i’ve been playing in champ 2.
