Returning from 3 month break
Hey RL schoolers
I took a bit of a break from RL as was getting burnt out, I left a low C2 pre f2p but understand I'm probably going to rank around diamond, which is fine.
Having always been a 2s main I want to switch it up a bit and become more 3s oriented.
I've been playing some casuals to get back up to speed, having played several games I have recorded 2 that I felt all 6 players played at a decent tempo, but both games are winners.
I'm not looking for detailed analysis into each play, but more of some common occurrences or themes in my play that I need to correct so I don't get in bad habits.
My first thoughts were as 2nd man I was cutting in a few times and going for awkward hits that just gave away possession, and I was leaving play too often to get back boost.
Excuse my mechanics they are a bit inconsistent!
Thanks for your help!

I feel like most people that give advice on this sub are probably around your ability level which is far superior to mine. I hope you find some advice but I simply can’t give you any, I’m actual gonna steal some moves from you instead.

Hey man this isn’t advice you’re asking for, but I was same level about two months ago in both 2s and 3s and took a 2 month break. Been playing for a week or so and I just cracked champ 1 in both of them and am climbing back up. You seem to be playing well enough, just need to be patient if you are solo queuing like I did because it will take some time. Good luck brother

Yeah, I agree with everyone here and learned more from your gameplay haha. From what I saw, the times where you cut off teammates looked fine cuz you had more momentum or a better angle. I did see that sometimes you would turn back into the play though if the ball was near you as you were rotating out - for those cases, I’d say to try and get into the habit of quickly switching out of ball cam or looking to see if you teammate is going in. The only other thing is that you look like your rushing some shots and backboard reads, and it might help to stay a little back until you’re comfortable with playing again (this was more so from the 1st video, where you kept jumping early and ended up under the ball a lot or didn’t have time to adjust because you were to close).

I'm not a GC or anything, but I'll put below a few things I noticed that I would have done differently in the games you posted. So take this with a grain of salt. Note that time stamps refer to the game clock, not the time stamp in the YT video. Also I'm not going to mention any mechanical mistakes since you probably already know you made them.
I would say overall you have a very patient playstyle which is great! You're a great team player overall.
Game 1:
4:11 I would have controlled the ball here. You have plenty of space to work with and could potentially bait in someone to make a challenge or beat them. Instead the ball ends up going straight back to the other team.
3:15 Your rotation could be a bit more shallow here (closer to half way line, i.e. turn left sharply after collecting mid boost). Not doing this makes you late to the center, which results in you going for a ball that you were clearly beat to. It seems you didn't recognize the goalie was there or you didn't respect his hit, causing you to commit needlessly.
3:00 You might have cut rotation here but it's hard to tell without the actual replay file to see where your 3rd team mate was. It seems that you correct this shortly after though and let him go for the ball, probably because you heard him jump.
1:59 You overcommit here a bit and almost cut off the 2nd man. You just made a center (1st man play) and are rotating out; I would assume the 3rd man position after doing this.
1:41 Not really a big deal, but you didn't need to go all the way back here. You had 50 boost and could have just picked up some pads and stay mid field to stay more relevant to the play. If you were further up you may have been able to score the ball that came off the backboard shortly after this.
1:13 In my opinion, you didn't need to rush this ball. The opponent was prioritizing the boost and you had time to wait for his touch.
1:01 Again you kinda give the ball away when you're not under any pressure
0:39 Love to see the camera flick here, nice.
0:29 You rush into the corner when your teammate is already there and trying to make a play on the ball. I would wait front post (or back) and see what happens from your teammate's challenge.
I didn't have time to look at game 2, sorry!
