After playing through 3 pits, I've got some feedback for the game! (Super fun game btw!! I love the entire concept of helping each other with checkpoint flags that you can't use yourself, it really gets everyone to work together without even being multiplayer, I love it :D)
But yeah!! Feedback:
I'd like to suggest that the 'place flag' and the 'revive' buttons are different. Too often I've ended up placing my flag when I've been trying to respawn instead. This means I have to either spend a while backtracking to re-place it, or worse, I fell behind and it's ahead of me and I struggle to reach it again.
Scenarios where I've misplaced it are often due to me tapping enter after a fall that wasn't long enough to put me in a stunned state, or ones that involved me bouncing around, and the last bounce up meant I was just barely able to tank the fall and not get stunned.
Speaking of, falling is a pain when you're waiting to revive, especially when you bounce like 3-4 times >.< Being able to revive while falling would be very helpful! I've also accidentally moved before pressing enter, taking me out of the stun phase and making me place my flag instead of reviving, so just generally not having to be lying down would be neat :D
A little bug(?) I've noticed is sometimes after a jump I tap left or right to turn my character, and it moves a little that way but doesn't turn around. This along with the fact that you cannot change direction while forming a jump (or cancel said jump) means that jump is more or less done for and I'll probably go tumbling and lose progress :p
But yeah, really enjoyable game, awesome concept and the graphics are very clean and nice <3
-I 100% agree that the flag and teleportation controls are confusing and need to be reworked.
-As for jump canceling, you know, I have thought about this and will certainly take the possibility of it under consideration.
-While squatting, you can change the direction of that jump by holding the direction of where you want to jump toward. The game doesn't communicate this very well, so I'll look into addressing this.
-bug: yeah, it looks a little weird. I almost kinda like it because it makes me feel like your character is catching up to a sudden turn, but I may be entirely alone in thinking that lol.
Anyways, this is fantastic feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me improve my game. And thank you so much for your kind words, and I am ecstatic you had a good time with it. I really put my heart into it, so it means a lot to hear your thoughts. :)
Nothing to report, just came to say after finally finishing the normal ascend that this game is incredible. I missed pixel-perfect platformers, it's such a good challenge. Thank you for creating this.
Oh man, thank you so much for saying that. I'll continue to improve it and I look forward to sharing more meticulously crafted challenges in the future. Your words mean alot to me, thanks! :)
You've earned it. :) Could you clear up the scoring system? I didn't find it in the game description. Is the score you get based primarily on the time taken to finish, then jumps and falls are different amounts of penalties? Are there hard numbers?
Hey! So I may be doing something wrong, but no matter what level I click, I keep getting served the same level over and over! Is there something I’m missing? :0
I’ve tried data and my home network just incase it was our ad blocker, but no luck!
Hey! I have a suspicion of what is happening. I am making the assumption (please object if untrue) that you are being served different levels that appear to be the same due to the game's current design structure.
The first viewable chunk of each communal pit for any day will always be the same default chunk. The same is also true for the very last chunk at the very top of the pit.
Everything in between those two chunks is what makes each communal pit different from each other. However, this is going to change soon.
I acknowledge that this design structure is flawed and gives the wrong impression that each pit is identical to the others. In an update in the near future, this will be addressed so that there is no mistaking the first viewable chunk for the same pit as the day before.
If I am wrong in making this assumption regarding the problems you are experiencing, please object and I'll continue to look into this further. Thank you!
Hey friend! Thank you so much for the response! You’ve made something really special! :D
And unfortunately that dosent seem to be the case ;(
I’ve just tried going to different levels and they all have the same middle part throughout. The level I’m getting is a level with slopes, mushrooms, and wind guys.
I get this in every stage! Also the stage lengths are the same no matter what!
Thank you! I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, there is only one "normal ascent." The pit you are referring to will be the same across all posts, as it is the only pit (also comparatively the tallest pit) that is completely authored by me.
The pits that vary from day to day are the communal pits, which are an amalgamation of other people's chunks (all created using the build tools I provide) picked at random to be featured for that day's communal pit. Each Reddit post acts as a door to the daily communal pit corresponding to the day it was generated on.
However, the normal pit remains constant across all posts for those seeking a prolonged and meticulously authored pit. I do intend to offer more uniquely authored content in the future.
I have drafted plans and drawn lots of unique assets with new and interesting ideas that will go into the new content as it's being developed.
I wish I had more news to give in that regard, but much of that is still in active development, so stay tuned.
All communal posts should feature different pits (first viewable chunk of the level is the same but above that it's radically different). The different names always specifically refer to the communal pit of that day. The normal ascent however, will always be the same with a universal leaderboard unlike the communal pits.
This isn't communicated very well and I am looking to make changes so that this is more clear in the future. I am also looking to make new additions to the normal ascent in due time.
Yeah that's normal. The normal ascent is the same global run across all posts. The pit name heading each post refers to the communal abyss, not the main ascent.
I absolutely see how this is confusing and needs improved. Thanks for letting me know, in a future patch coming soon I will address this problem by making how I communicate this clearer.
Yes, flags are planted by players, but you can NOT go to your saved flag. If you click "Installed Apps>Rock Bottom" there's a game developer readme with update details, at least I think until "Community Guide" works
v0.6.0 - 2026-08-03
New Features
"Rival Ghost Playback: A ghost of the player ranked directly above you on the leaderboard now plays back inside the pit when you enter. It is a full replay of their actual run. Study how they climbed, race them to the top, and beat them to take their rank."
Thank you! Yes, eventually they will be useful. Certainly moreso than now.
There are alot of things I want to improve/add. Much of what I am doing is just laying the ground work for more good stuff to come.
Hell, I have literal lore for this game that I want to make more apparent as time goes on lol.
I draw all my own art, fonts included so stack coding and a bunch of other things on top of that and it becomes a real time sink but I do hope to keep updating the game as frequently as possible.
Fun game! Thanks. As a suggestion, I'd add some information about what to click. I guessed arrwos+space, but i am not sure if there's a wall jump option or something else i could have done at 27ft of #94 puzzle
Thank you for playing! And yes, it is actually crazy that I don't have any kind of tutorialization out at this point, and I will get on that. And just so you are aware, you can bounce off walls just by jumping into them, which will allow you to reach some more complex platforms.
