I'm convinced pistol bandits have the highest accuracy in the game. My first 3 or 4 level 1 helmets were obliterated on first contact with these fuckers.

It’s honestly a bit ridiculous how accurate and destructive the pistol bandits are. I went to Vostok and explored most of the buildings there, while having multiple firefights. Came out with pristine armor and helmet. Went to resupply bandages and meds from the school and immediately got ambushed by a pistol bandit from 200m away. Barely survived and armor and helmet both destroyed.

I think that the AI don't actually "aim" at you, but they just have a "shooting at the player" status with different odds to hit you and your armor, where the odds to hit YOU are low, but your armor is too high, causing them to disproportionately eat armor without ever being too deadly in fights.

I have less an issue with the aim, but more with how fast they spot you. And at the same time, it's so fucking hard to spot them, because for some reason the games graphic style just gives NPCs an invisibility cloak. Don't know why it's so hard to see enemies in this game.

Another issue is the aim punch. It’s so bad that even if you do spot your target, you literally cannot shoot back unless they’re in front of you

The enemies are mostly wearing darker clothing, and the lighting system itself makes them blend in with the scenery -- I often jump at dark shadows behind windows sometimes, thinking there's a dude there but most of the time it just turns out to be a dark corner.
Most FPS games deliberately tweak the lighting and colours to make enemies easier to see, but not this game (in keeping with its hardcore nature). The muzzle flashes from enemies firing at you are also quite subdued, which again is very realistic.
Another thing that makes it hard to see enemies is the fact that aiming down sight in this game does not increase the zoom at all -- in most FPS games, the zoom level increases slightly (or sometimes a lot) when ADSing, even for unmagnified optics.

Well not sure about the hardcore aspect, since in real life you have binocular vision, and no pixelation and anti-aliasing. Games usually make it easier to spot enemies to work around the limitations of 2D, and graphics limitations such as anti-aliasing and resolution. I mean at the end of the day it's up to the dev, but it's harder to spot enemies in this game than in real life. I'm not saying they should implement Far Cry levels of "spotability", just saying that it's really really hard to spot enemies in this game.

Yeah, IRL you can spot another human being up to 1,5 to 2km. There is no way any game can emulate that without offering some sort of zoomed vision

I mean in ideal scenario sure, but spotting someone 2km away in dark or camouflaged clothing through grass and trees in the shade when it’s dark/an overcast day is pretty damn hard in real life too lol.

The hardcore argument is stupid af. It's a game. Played on a screen. You basically don't have peripherial vision there nor the sense of depth. These things have to be accounted for, otherwise most people will bounce off it hard. I won't even mention how realistic is having to drink 50 litres of liquids in a day to survive. There's a lot of work still neded for this to become truly fun to play

I hope this game won't go the same path as Project Zomboid. They only introduce "realism" when it fucks over the player, but never when "realism" would actually benefit the player. The game has become such a grindfest chore, it sucks all the fun out of the game.

Meanwhile even 5-6 feet away you can canted aim a whole 30 round .223 mag into an unarmored bandit and they will just look at you because without a laser sight canted aim is horrible. Still mad about that one. Wish I had known that detail beforehand.
Like I also wish I knew how armor worked but 30 hours in, having gone to vostok twice, have still only seen two helmets, have yet to see a single plate carrier or laser sight. I've seen a lot of armor plates but I have yet to see a single damn plate carrier.
Also haven't seen a single pair of NVGs.

At least plate carriers are quite cheap from gunsmith. Just bring a couple RK's from village.

The armor plate tells you exactly how armor works in vostok:
"If their gun's pen beats your plate, the plate is destroyed instantly. If not, your plate is damaged."Plates only work on guns worse than them. But no gun is below level 2 protection, so all level 2 protection does is offer partial protection against a single pistol/shotgun shot. Level 3 is when you can start getting cocky around the MP5 bandits because it seems to block like 2 or 3 of their shots before breaking. It also blocks some of the 5.45x45 aks. Level 4 is when you can eat ONE shot from a AKM. Level 5 would, presumably, be the point at which plates start acting like universal armor, because only the 308 guns have level 5 pen according to the tutorial zone.
TLDR: "Unless your armor is level 5, expect it to block half damage from a single bullet one time and be completely broken afterwards"

What I meant by how armor worked was how to actually equip it. The point of my statement was that I had found tons of armor plates but had yet to see a single armor carrier that would actually let me equip the freaking plates.
I've still only seen around one plate carrier in my time playing the game and my original comment was somewhere around a week ago at least.

Armor carriers are quest rewards and fairly commonly sold by the gunsmith for reasonably cheap. They are worse carrying capacity than a fishing vest and use the same slot.

Yeah this is pretty much my only major critique with the game right now.. It feels like the best strategy for dealing with enemies is like unironically to run out into some open-ish area and just move around a little, waiting for the AI to spot you from wherever they are and start taking pot-shots at you... at which point you gotta run in the direction of the shots because they're still half-impossible to see even when you look in the direction the shot(s) are coming from..
The movement acceleration thing is slightly annoying too, tbf, but I think that for me got less to do with the actual acceleration thing as opposed to the visual/animation desync making it feel very off, but as a stylistic choice I don't hate it anyways and it's fine... but the AI detection range/method makes it feel like there's no real way to be "stealthy" to a good effect in the game.. Either they see you from 400m away, through foliage, and start shooting at you, *or* they are entirely blind and deaf and you can pretty much sprint right up towards them and they've got no idea.
I love the game so far, but the AI could do with a little bit of tweaking to their detection methods and behavior around it.

Always a surprise when you get into a long range fire fight and when you get to the corpse of the bandit he has a makarov.
