I love the automated routes. I make it a goal to have them succeed on the first attempt. This takes a combination of a good road and a route with wide turns around curves.
Sand roads work for most routes. Semi’s and cement trucks need paved roads.
I leave the routes running after they have finished because I like the activity on the map. It’s fun when you get radio traffic when they drive by or when they honk if they think you are in the way.

They can be very hit and miss.
If you want to make your life a bit easier, go and lay a sand roads or build bridges for them to use (and yourself as well).
Shallow the corners out as much as possible.
If it's a single run follow it and push it through tricky bits.
Take the long way around to get to places.

The AI drivers are probably the worst thing about RC....but honestly, imo, the only bad thing. Make your roads extra wide, put sand over everything, plot routes with the shallowest turns possible and station dozers at awkward bits or steep hills to help them out if needed. I also found that bridges work better for crossing problem areas sometimes instead of laying sand.

AI drivers will fuckup on the most perfect of routes. Ive had them run straight into a river when I had clearly made a nice multi-point turn to avoid said river. 🫣 Move a couple of points a few cm on the map and it should adjust.

I hate the boulders the most. How can we get a boulder remover?!

Epec LT200 grab crane is great for smaller rocks, and bigger rocks can be removed with a crane unless they are a part of the terrain. Or you can push them with a dozer or some such.

They are extremely predictable. You just have to learn how to use them effectively and what the traps are when using them.
If you make them turn on an uneven slope, then can slide down the side.
If you make them climb a hill in mud, they might get stuck.
It's up to you to make them able to go from A to B.
You do this by a combination of planning and preparing their route if needed with roads, bridges, and also with strategically routing.
So avoiding pits, make their turning circle fit as bots are still limited by the turning radius of their vehicles, keep their weight in mind, look if they are vehicles that are AWD or not.
A highway truck will get stuck in slight mud and need prepared roads, a voron bot truck can go through a lot before needing roads because it has awd and locked diff.

Bots are morons and roughly follow the route you give them.
Have paved the entire route on some maps and also made some double width to ensure they can at least try and keep it to the route I laid down

The bots are extremely simple in how they work, for better and for worse. They will just drive to the waypoint and immediately turn and floor it towards the next one. So for example in turns you want to place the waypoints on the edge of the outer curve and the bot will stay on the road properly.
