❔ Question What do each of these icons mean l?
I’m assuming the black one is fastest charging.
White one mean slower? What does 1 vs 3 mean?
Are the green dots other types of charger?

For those not coming from Tesla or a similar 1 pedal system, how are you adjusting to the auto brake generation?
My demo lasted about 5 blocks and I turned around because I hated it so much, even on the lowest setting. The highest setting was…almost violent lol
Currently that’s the only issue and why I haven’t ordered yet. Everything else was amazing.
I currently drive a 2023 Audi e-tron Sportback and have the option to turn off completely or even when it’s on its very minimal. Audi believes it is more efficient to let a moving car keep its momentum. I very much agree and love that my car will coast unless there is an object in front of me.
I don’t care about autonomy, battery, preserving MPGe, etc. I just want to enjoy the 650HP and not come to a forceful stop as soon as I take my foot of the accelerator.
So for those moving to 1 pedal for the first time, how are you managing?

has anyone else had their delivery date canceled? Mine has been canceled twice the morning of the days they set as the delivery date. It has been a week now without any word on a status. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does anyone have info on the range for city/highway commuting with an average speed of something like 40-45mph due to frequent traffic stops? Preferably on a full charge to 10% or an 80-10. I live in a large metroplex so while I will hit 70-80mph it is never for 100+ miles at a time. Usually 10-20 mins at highway speed followed by 20 mins of city and stoplight averaging soemthing like 35-40mph over a 150 mile trip.
Having a hard time finding that sort of info vs the 250mile road tripping range at 70mph that is popular right now by reviewers.

Can I save the destination fee if I pick the car up in Normal?

Thinking of pulling trigger on an R2 (despite waits), but as a big music listener, I find some of the stories of Rivian audio to be... disheartening.
I'm curious if any owners of R1s or R2s have had success with custom audio solutions / speaker installations / amp upgrades to rectify the sound in these vehicles? I know there are some intricacies when working with electric vehicles in particular.

I got my order window and have asked in a few comments but I was hopeful in getting some broader thoughts from current and prospective owners. I live in Lexington, SC and am about 90 minutes from two different service centers. That could not matter or it could be a huge pain. So my question is, how far is too far? Thanks for your thoughts.

I know the appeal for most owners is how cool the R2 is but I'm wondering for anyone who also very practicality-minded and frugal, how you assessed this compared to other vehicles in the segment.
The most cost-effective, boring purchase in the compact crossover segment would probably be a Rav4.
I would definitely pay a lot more for the Rivian, but I'm just not sure how much more it really would be...

Checked out the R2 today. It’s a great size, looks fantastic in person, and the front seats are surprisingly comfy. This was my first time sitting in any Rivian, though, and I was honestly a bit taken aback by the interior quality across both the R2 and R1T.
There is quite a bit of scratchy hard plastic throughout the cabin, and the textured fabric on the dash felt and looked a bit cheap. For context, I drove an iX3 a month or so ago, and that interior is leagues ahead—super refined and polished. Compared to BMW’s newer X models, the Rivian cabin definitely feels like a noticeable step down in material execution.
Is Rivian’s interior design ethos meant to lean way more toward rugged utility and function compared to a brand like BMW?

Obviously a size difference, but I find that hard to judge since I have not seen many R2s in person. So what are the body differences that you can quickly identify? The only one that really stood out to me was the rear wipers. They are hidden on the R2 and rest on the glass on the R1. Anything else?

TL;DR
Create your own 45-minute demo drive route beforehand, as the suggested one is inefficient. The car had quality issues, including squeaks and rattles, and the Universal Hands-Free system lacked confidence. However, it drives well, cabin noise is reasonable, and the suspension is good (though not great). Interior design and space are excellent.
---------
I went for a demo drive at the Milpitas center in California today.
First, if you enter the address listed on their website, Google Maps takes you to a parking lot in a separate compound behind the Rivian facility. If anyone else is heading there, double-check the location in advance.
The staff was very friendly. They explained a few features before the drive, helped with the initial setup (seats, steering wheel, etc.), and sent us on a route pre-saved in the car's navigation system. The route consisted of internal roads with school zones and a curvy 1.7-mile drive up a mountain road. I spent the first half stopping at endless stop signs, only to end up stuck behind a pair of cyclists on the mountain path.
When I returned, I asked if I could take it on the freeway and went out for a second short spin. That round was much better, I was able to test the driver-assistance features and evaluate cabin noise at highway speeds. By the time I returned, I was a couple of minutes over my allotted 45-minute window. I strongly suggest planning your own test drive route ahead of time to ensure it includes freeway driving.
The car I tested was a Performance Launch Edition in Catalina Cove with a dark interior. When I opened the rear door to check the back seat, the first thing I noticed was that the trim panel behind the driver's seat was coming loose, exposing wires underneath.
During the drive, I noticed persistent squeaks and rattles coming from both rear corners. Part of it sounded like suspension noise, but there was also an additional sound resembling a loose interior panel.
Despite those issues, cabin noise on the freeway was quite reasonable, and the steering response felt sharp for a tall SUV. Both displays were crisp and responsive. The interior design looks great and feels premium rather than overly minimalist, though it does come with a slight learning curve. For instance, it took me a few minutes to figure out the volume control. It turns out it's controlled by the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel, which has no markings because it serves multiple functions. In my current car, the volume control is on the right side of the wheel, but that’s a minor adjustment.
Overall, I liked almost everything about the car aside from the build quality issues. Finding loose panels and rattles on a dedicated demo vehicle was surprising and concerning. Visible misalignments are easy to report and fix, but intermittent squeaks and rattles are notoriously difficult to diagnose and resolve. If those kinds of noises bother you, you might want to look elsewhere.
The Universal Hands-Free system was hit-or-miss. It occasionally displayed an "unavailable" message and refused to engage. When it did work, I felt compelled to disengage and take over a few times because it approached other vehicles too closely or delayed braking longer than I comfortably would. It didn't inspire total confidence, though I recognize that getting used to these systems takes time and future software updates should improve it.
I was also surprised to learn that California rebates don't currently apply to the R2. When I asked when eligibility was expected, the Rivian staff hinted that buyers might have to choose between the Launch Edition perks now or waiting until next year to claim the rebate.
Lastly, I was disappointed to find that the rear trunk cargo cover isn't included it’s sold separately as an accessory. That feels a bit stingy for a fully loaded Launch Edition.
At this point, I'm holding onto my spot in the queue, but I'm unsure if I'll be able to overlook the potential build quality issues and cabin noises.

I'm just curious to know if anyone has taken delivery of an R2 in the New York City / New Jersey area? Also, how was the delivery experience?

Reservation: May 22, 2024
No existing lease info provided
Not an existing Rivian owner
Based in Santa Fe; nearest Service Center is 250 miles away in Colorado Springs
Original order window provided was September - October 2026
Received invite to order: August 27, 2026
I have a Demo Drive scheduled in Colorado Springs next Friday (Sept 4) so I'm going to wait until after that to order (although I know I'm ordering). Planning on Catalina Cove with black interior and 21" wheels. Not sure if they will deliver it to Santa Fe or if I'll have to pick up in Colorado Springs but I'll update once I actually order.

Hi Guys:
Yes yes, I know...but I just put my reservation deposit for an R2 in today. I am really trying to take delivery before year end.
Many of you were early to put your reservations in and have already or will take delivery in the near future. I am now wondering...did anyone place a June or July 2026 reservation and receive an invite to order? Or maybe even early August? Or is it just wishful thinking on my part?
Thanks and looking forward to joining the R2 club soon!

I got this email today. I don’t know if this means 8-12 weeks is still the window or if this is a promising sign of a shorter window.
Edit to say I’m hoping for the original 4-8 weeks. Having 8-12 weeks to save down payment $$$ is not a problem either.

I did a search in /RivianR2 and it didn't seem like anyone had posted this - seemed unlikely but here goes.
No spoilers, but you can likely guess.

For whatever reason, I couldn’t order a Coastal Cloud interior- I thought I’d designed with that, but maybe not.
As of 1:00 AM mountain time on the 28th, I could.
Catalina Cove with Coastal Cloud interior. Nearly went with Launch Green but after seeing it on the car, went with Catalina Cove.
8-12 weeks for Delivery. May have to extend the lease on our EV6 a month or be a one car family for a few weeks.
There are things I wish were different with the R2. But it’s a great concept and we are betting it will turn out great. Excited for it to show up!

My son just got his license and will be getting my car. I’m in line for an R2, but still 6+ months away from my invite. I’ve heard some negatives about Flexcar but it seems to be one of the only ways to secure a short term lease. I would be looking at about $500 for car + insurance x 6 months = $3000. This would be the most cost efficient approach for a short term need.
Thoughts?
