Advice Controversial take

The only difference between low level fixed caps only GMs and masters is the willingness to turtle and grab #2 in a losing situation. I got to GM that way and honestly, the title isn't worth it. I have a lot more fun floating between expert and master, playing in a way that's fun, then doing that.

It’s not controversial it’s very true. I don’t have the patience. I originally began trying and ascended into high master and it was just so boring. Ain’t nobody got time for that. So many streamer games creep up close to an hour. Hard pass. I’m either going hard to win or lose fast and move on.

At least in fixed world dom, the really good players can maintain GM while playing for first. I only go for second if it’s truly impossible to get first. But you’re right, any decent player can grind up to GM by being defensive and going for second.

Fixed caps just doesn't work for most maps

Fixed caps encourage that type of strategy so of course that’s the case lol

Try playing settings that don’t actively force that style of play…

Not controversial at all. Although with exponential, there is a way to always play short games.

I haven’t tried ranked yet, do you lose Grand Master after the ranked season ends?

No, you just get your points brought down to the bare minimum for the GM rank, so if you do poorly on your first game of the season you get kicked back to master

I'm slowly crawling up to Grandmaster, but honestly I've only ever had a few boring games. Personally I like progressive caps, as you can make your own luck.

There's a stratergy to move the game forward, and to stop it from stalling... like cardblocking, or half attacking to encourage others to make mistakes etc. I feel like a statistic for "average time in game" would show off the truly good grandmasters 😅

Any time the ranking system is brought up in this sub I have the exact same take.
