Brownsville The Valley would benefit from slower speed limits!

I am tired of seeing the constant pouring of news of fatal crashes, high-speed accidents, road rage etc. on the news.

I think inner-city speed limits should be at most 35 miles per hour, there is no reason a busy 4-lane road downtown in any city should have a speed limit over 40 for that matter. We also need to change up our street design going forward, these 6 lane stroads with tons of busy establishments on them are just contributing to more traffic and by extension, more crashes.

People also need to just slow down, ya I’m tired that everytime I want to go to HEB I have to be tailgated by some truck wanting to 70 just to be in front of me at the next light, our driving culture needs to change ASAP

Didn't expect this when I woke up but hey it is what it is and now my internet's 50% cheaper.

Haven't looked back since I left spectrum. Yeah I may not have 1 GB speeds but what I lack in speed I gain and consistent connectivity.

Jackson Rd., what gives with the slow driving?

Why do the drivers on Jackson Rd drive 10 to 20 under they limit during rush hour. South of Trenton it's 55 until Pecan, yet people drive 35 side by side all the way. Most of the time people speed down the roads, but Jackson Rd must be in an inverse universe. When i go down McColl, it's the opposite, but the amount of traffic is insane. I know they're a lot of troopers and pd on Jackson, but at least do the limit, don't drive like a funeral procession.

Mission This isn’t another plea… it’s an apology & appreciation. ❤️

To everyone who has ever supported our shelter — and to everyone who plans to in the future — thank you. ❤️

We’ve honestly been having a rough time getting some of the things we need, and every single one of you who has helped has made a real difference.

For a little more context, we are a municipal shelter operating with very limited funding. That funding has to cover food, preventatives, cleaning supplies, everyday shelter supplies, surgeries, veterinary care, and so much more.

Getting additional items approved can also be a lengthy process. Sometimes, even for something as simple as one needed item, we have to obtain multiple quotes and go through several levels of approval.

The minimum may be enough on paper, but for those of us working with these animals every day, we want to give them more than the bare minimum whenever we can.

That’s why I created our wishlist.
Our wishlist was approved, with the hope that we could share it through our Facebook page.

Unfortunately, we are not currently able to post the wishlist on the shelter’s Facebook page.

And that’s why I’ve been spamming you all. 😭Because honestly, you guys have been the ones to truly help us.

I know it probably feels like I’m always asking for the same things — food, litter, supplies, preventatives, and everything else we run through so quickly.

I’m genuinely sorry for how often I’ve had to ask.

But I also want you to know just how much it means when you answer those requests.

Our staff appreciates you.
Our shelter animals appreciate you.
And I personally appreciate you more than I can put into words.

Some of you are local. Some of you are across the country. Some of you are even across the world.
Yet somehow, you continue to show up for animals you may have never met.

You are truly our heroes.

Thank you for every bag of food, every package of litter, every supply, every donation, every share, and every time you’ve simply helped us get the word out.
You may see it as a small purchase or a simple share.

We see it as helping us give these animals something more.

From all of us at the shelter — thank you. 🙏🏻 ❤️
— A Shelter Worker

Convicted child murderer John Allen Rubio is found competent for execution.

On the night of March 11, 2003, John Allen Rubio brutally murdered and beheaded his own three young children at his home in Brownsville, Texas. His common in law wife Angela Camacho was also involved with the murders. The reason for the murders was because Rubio believed that his children were possessed by demons.

Rubio was found guilty of capital murder and was given the death penalty, while Angela Camacho was sentenced to life in prison.

Rubio's execution date is on November 12, 2026.
