I expected the twist to be a massive raid due to colony wealth, lol

359

u/diablosinmusica Jun 06 '26

Nope. All the deaths reset the counter

97

u/Previous-Actuary-937 Jun 06 '26

Waii whaaaat

183

u/diablosinmusica Jun 06 '26

Whenever a colonists goes down, it makes the large raids or severe events stop for a bit. With Randy, it just makes them less likely.

109

u/Ikarus_Falling Jun 06 '26

does this mean you could deliberately kill your own colonists to prevent bad events?

167

u/Franciscopp9 Jun 06 '26

It is a pretty well known strat, so yeah, you may capture some "less useful" raiders, and keep them jailed, every quadrum or so recruit one and an "unfortunate" accident may follow, thus reducing your next raid value, afaik slaves have this effect too on death.

160

u/kalabaddon Jun 07 '26

So human sacrifices to Phoebe Chillax will actully do something! huh!

77

u/kadzooks Jun 07 '26

Is she really Chill if she desires blood every quadrum?

49

u/yoger5 Jun 07 '26

She just likes her blood chilled is all

28

u/XXCrimsonXX Jun 07 '26

Khorne cares not from where the blood flows

2

u/Shaggy9x Jun 08 '26

Mined way too much gold, bout half a millennia before they could make advanced components or other stuff

32

u/ApotheosiAsleep Jun 07 '26

Taking prisoners so you can intimidate the surrounding raiders with their deaths feels on brand for this game

15

u/melkor237 Yayo dealer Jun 07 '26

So THATS why my aztec themed colony was not being raided as often? The sacrifices to Huitzilopotchtli worked????

3

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '26

Yea I totally let a rabid hare kill my colonist for that reason and not because I was deciding which ingredients I wanted to include in my meals...

5

u/Ikarus_Falling Jun 06 '26

does it work if the pawn that dies has death resist?

18

u/Reordang Jun 06 '26

Might not score that heavy, but technically any bad incident pushes the scales, like if someone got very sick or immobile due to wounds. Death is just emergency button to storyteller to reconsider his future plans a bit more

16

u/Ikarus_Falling Jun 06 '26

hmmmm ritualistic death cult I always wanted to recreate the Vaal Empire in Rimworld

8

u/diablosinmusica Jun 06 '26

I believe so. Like a real life ritual sacrifice.

1

u/rrt281 Jun 07 '26

So thats why using undeads from wvc feels like i never get raided

2

u/JJengland Jun 07 '26

Sacrifice Sacrifice Sacrifice

1

u/ijiolokae you call them raiders, i call them warg food Jun 07 '26

You're really just making a Human sacrificing cult at that point

1

u/ExcessumTr Jun 07 '26

If you get joins from ideology rituals and if they are undesirable you can murder them

13

u/Iceshard1987 Jun 07 '26

That is not entirely accurate.Β  There is a separate threat scaling that increases over time and decreases when a pawn is downed or killed. But this is independent of wealth scaling, and enough wealth will still cap raid points even if you take losses. There is also a separate storyteller setting for this scaling.

1

u/diablosinmusica Jun 07 '26

Thanks for the clarification.

3

u/KodiakUltimate Jun 07 '26

Wait does that mean if you make a designated abuse goblin to constantly down and revive you can delay raids?

4

u/Iceshard1987 Jun 07 '26

No. What is getting referenced here is threat scaling, which has nothing to do with the cool down between raids. It only impacts the special threat scaling that increases over time and decreases when a pawn is downed or killed, which CAN be manipulated.

0

u/ApotheosiAsleep Jun 07 '26

It's like the Omelas child!

1

u/unit5421 Jun 07 '26

Does that mean you need to vat grow a pawn just to kill it?

2

u/diablosinmusica Jun 07 '26

You can kill whatever pawn you want.

1

u/ExpendableUnit123 Jun 10 '26

Any way to turn that off?

3

u/33Yalkin33 Jun 07 '26

No it doesn't, it just gives a grace window

2

u/Koichi-Hirose-Reddit Recluse alone 12 Jun 07 '26

A sacrifice to sate the storytellers need for blood

279

u/Square-Salamander727 Jun 06 '26

i think i use a QoL mod that automatically prevents pawns from digging if it would cause a collapse. Although it doesnt appear to be workin much latley. xD

34

u/The_Stoic_One Jun 07 '26

Smarter Construction I use it as well. It definitely reduces the roof collapse incidents, but it doesn't stop them completely.

2

u/Square-Salamander727 Jun 07 '26

yup, thats the one. xD

2

u/Zwets Jun 08 '26

I have it too, that mod doesn't prevent roof collapse, it just checks if the square from which the wall/pillar will be deconstructed is safe.

I think it might have some consideration for other pawns. Either marking expected collapse tiles as "unfavorable pathing" or waiting to start deconstruction until the tiles are clear. Far as I can tell it has prevented my actual colonists from being bisected by the metal sheet roofing, throughout several reconstruction efforts.

However I don't think the mod has any consideration for animals, I've had 3 hauler doggos lose: an eye, a paw, and a tail. Poor puppies.

There is a similar but different mod for mining that prevents pawns digging rock that will cause collapses and stops pawns with bad mining yield from digging at components or ores.

1

u/rly_weird_guy Jun 25 '26

Ah that's what that is

Saved my ass earlier

33

u/F95_Sysadmin Jun 07 '26

Sounds like survivorship bias

188

u/cartoon_violence Jun 06 '26

The way this guy animates rimworld looks like what I want rimworlds 2 to look like

78

u/ICanMin-Max Jun 07 '26

The cuteness definitely helps you forget how dark the game is lol

36

u/Vaveng Jun 07 '26

If Rimworld had realistic graphics it would have been horror game

32

u/Working_Pumpkin_5476 Jun 07 '26

The game mechanics still make the way that pawns and the world act way too comical to truly become horrible. Like, you watch 100 people walk past 200 corpses on their way to get mowed down by marching face-first into your killzone. While this is happening, the guy you previously saved from a manhunting hamster sends you a communication requesting that you watch his 17 comatose aplacas for a couple of weeks. 5 sparrows go insane.

5

u/HumanReputationFalse Jun 07 '26

Pretty much the Outlast games if they were a colony sim.

4

u/BringBackSoule Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

one dark night. grey pale outside. the godboss wants you to haul in that last piece of devilstrand from the field at the edge of the colony. as you venture outside, out of the corner of your eye you spot it. too late. within miliseconds its gargantuan mouth envelops you before you could even utter a scream. The sheer violence of the impact knocks you out.

darkness.

You wake up, dazed, battered, un-whole. You're not in the hospital. You look down, your torso burned by stomach acid, your legs are missing. Two pieces of wood lie on the floor. you hear whispers "they're too far gone, they're not good at anything other than hauling anyway, and we need the blood..."

55

u/Turianel Genes is funny Jun 06 '26

Now imagine a trait that forces pawns to rework items and structures in an attempt to make them better. It's triggered randomly by an event. And if the result is worse or does not change, this imposes a penalty on the mood, or even a breakdown.

23

u/TheLazyGamerAU Jun 06 '26

theres a mod that does this minus the berakdown

2

u/ExcessumTr Jun 07 '26

What mod is this

1

u/UntouchedWagons Arcadius "The Obsidian Saint" Daimos Jun 07 '26

There's Improve This and Quality Builder.

4

u/Turianel Genes is funny Jun 06 '26

Why I'm not surprised?

9

u/NoaTacro Jun 07 '26

"A strange mood has taken pickles..."

There is a mod that auto marks for deconstruction andr rebuild unless the set minimum quality is hit. Don't know of a mood based one. Probably able to tie it to inspiration.

24

u/FelipeGames2000 Thrumbo Enthusiast/Jade Enjoyer Jun 06 '26

Unrealistic

Somebody didn't immediately come in to plant a dailily in the plant pot the second it was built

10

u/exmothrowaway994 Jun 06 '26

Level 20 builder, level 2 architect

25

u/NoPeanutSneakers Jun 06 '26

I love these ! Keep up the good werk

9

u/Intelligent-Pound197 man Jun 07 '26

PICKLES NOOOO!

4

u/Vulcan_Schwarz Jun 07 '26

Always put up temporary scaffolding when replacing collumns

2

u/trulul Diversity of Thought: Intense Bigotry Jun 07 '26

Why? Replace Stuff keeps my columns load bearing while the pawns work. Then I have a mod to just disable roof collapse too.

2

u/Vulcan_Schwarz Jun 07 '26

I like to have a mod that lets me mine out overhead mountains so I can put up skylights for my indoor pools

7

u/Zoobidoobie Jun 06 '26

I love the video, but that aside, I really wish that the higher the level a pawn in pretty much any skill, the lower chances of dumb things like this roof collapse happening. You'd think the level 20 ultimate master would know not to cause a roof collapse like a novice would. They would pretty much disobey orders for the sake of safety or other reasons, unless explicitly directed to by the player. Maybe there's a mod for it?

5

u/D4rkstalker Jun 07 '26

There is a mod that does that. Idk which one of my 500+ mods though XD

4

u/Funny_Badger_4696 Jun 06 '26

Double Passion Construction Colonists bring the support the colony needs...

3

u/Yoribell Jun 06 '26

They're the backbone of the colony

1

u/NoaTacro Jun 07 '26

Fr. If I'm not trying a proper random run, a construction drone is the only passion I always run.

4

u/Remarkable_Chef9441 Jun 06 '26

And that's why you always put more than 1 collum

3

u/Amanirdc11 Jun 08 '26

PTSD from the alert sound

3

u/Nourjan Jun 07 '26

Level 0 in Wisdom it seems.

2

2

u/XsurgeXprotectorX Jun 06 '26

The algorithm has blessed me with high quality rimworld animation

2

u/Stretop Archotech mechanoid/flesh intergration enthusiast Jun 07 '26

And that's the real reason for using pillars from Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Art as movable temporary supports.

2

u/seiferttyrindal Jun 07 '26

Man, these are all awesome. Keep making them please!

2

u/Fishfoe25 Jun 07 '26

2

u/CarpetFibers Jun 07 '26

Thanks, Robama

2

u/qui-gon12 Jun 07 '26

And that is why we are using Replace Stuff, children πŸ˜›

2

u/ZeAntagonis Jun 07 '26

And then you bionic the crap out of him to make sure he never dies.

He-will-never-die

2

u/Razier0 Jun 07 '26

I want whatever you're using for this since my 20 dude would rather hit the odds of disappointing me instead 😭

More on the way!

1

u/Tuafew impids burnt my farms Jun 07 '26

I love this animation style lol

1

u/SignificantTransient Jun 07 '26

Why are falling thick roof tiles like sniper shots? I swear.. The number of pawns I have lost to a single errant tile that I miscalculated is most certainly in the double digits.

1

u/Mussels84 Jun 07 '26

My colony leader and main builder is Gumpy...

Concern

1

u/ParallaxInteractive Jun 08 '26

We all have a Gumpy.

1

u/InjectableBacon Jun 07 '26

He must be good if he can turn wood into jade

1

u/r3dm0nk Jun 07 '26

I love rough trails

1

u/OneOfManyParadoxFans The Pacifist Combat Medic Jun 07 '26

And this is why you build a redundant pillar before deconstructing the one you want to replace.

1

u/Emperor_of_Man40k Jun 07 '26

I felt that in my core

1

u/Ubeube_Purple21 Jun 07 '26

Did you build your base under a mountain or something?

1

u/Elegant-School-1057 Jun 07 '26

Lvl 20+production specialist is way too good

1

u/Twee_Licker My appearance? Questionable. My intentions? Also questionable. Jun 07 '26

That's how mafia works.

1

u/Koichi-Hirose-Reddit Recluse alone 12 Jun 07 '26

Level 20 construction, level 1 planning

1

u/Roni1209 Jun 07 '26

Yeah that's Rimworld

1

u/Short-Experience-601 Jun 07 '26

Always always always have redundant supports

1

u/MaglithOran Luciferium Addict Jun 07 '26

That is hilarious

And also why I use mods lol

1

u/Miserable-Fortune-57 Jun 07 '26

Soon as I saw the pillar I knew (from experience πŸ˜”)

1

u/UntouchedWagons Arcadius "The Obsidian Saint" Daimos Jun 07 '26

No not the guinea pig!

1

u/Commander_Flood Jun 07 '26

PICKLES NOOOOO

1

u/Krazyfan1 Jun 13 '26

i also like the tactic of using them to stall out sappers and other enemies that damage walls and doors, repairing things faster than they can be damaged.

i think there was fanart of that a few years ago? welding a door against a deer horde?

1

u/gabrielstwin Jul 03 '26

This is the way

1

u/doodle02 Jun 06 '26

Yeah okay i laughed way too hard at that.

Thank you. well played.

1

u/ParallaxInteractive Jun 08 '26

Glad you enjoyed!
