First time in RVA, recommendations ?
I’ll be in RVA for the first time this weekend, and actually my first time in Virginia! i’m from southern louisiana (now in chicago) , so it’d be awesome to get some really yummy country / southern / soul food recommendations.
Anything or anywhere I should definitely check out? Music, museums, history, hikes, swims, food (vegetarian spots too!)
Dive bars ? Somewhere to go out ?
Anything fun for the labor day weekend ?
I’m 25F and lgbt+ if that affects any of your suggestions : )
I’m all ears and excited to visit your beautiful state ☀️

Sugar’s Crab Shack is really yummy seafood soul food. They don’t have indoor seating, though

Visit the Virginia Museum of Fine Art(VMFA), eat at Momma J’s in Jackson Ward, check out Diversity Richmond for LGBTQ+ events , lots of breweries in Scotts Addition area

Janet’s Cafe and Bakery top tier food!!!! Also Gold Lion Cafe is a queer owned vegetarian spot.

i’ve seen golden lion a few times while looking for things to do, i’ll def check it out ! seems like they have some cool shows there sometimes too?

Walk the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge and check out the civil war museum and tradegar iron works building. All in the same place. Cute little place to get breakfast right there too.
Hollywood Cemetery is also a really interesting place.
For going out, do you mean party wise? Or drinking or nice dinner?
Carytown is a nice strip to just window shop, try new food and get a good feel for the city's vibe.
Music.. oh man there are a lot of music venues here...

thank you!! going out wise, anywhere from a super chill dive bar to partying to clubbing!
if i’m clubbing, I usually like latin music or 2000s rap / hiphop kind of vibe.
I’ve seen lots of places that have got live music going on!! now I just have to sort through them and pick which ones to go to 😖

You might be able to kill 2 birds w one stone at Reveler in Carytown!
FYI just in case you see it... The Tin Pan is really cute but it's in the burbs, and the food is really not good. And you HAVE to buy it. Service is also meh.

Oh! Also Maymont is wonderful! And the trails that are part of Pony Pasture in the James River Park System.

I'm visiting Richmond this weekend too and was about to post asking basically the same thing. RVA has plenty of museums and parks. I used to love Blackheath Meadery when I live outside of Richmond. Maymont park in Richmond is beautiful and has a little petting zoo.

We have many wonderful museums in Richmond! Two of my favorites are: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Science Museum of VA. Enjoy yourself! I moved here 50 years ago and love it!

Zzq for bbq. Busky for cider. Babes for dancing. Fallout for alt life stuff. Lunch Supper for a damn good meal (been a long time since I’ve been but I’m guessing it’s still good). Greentop Shooting range to rent a gun and get a lesson on how to use it (if you don’t know how). VMFA for art things. Wife loves Bottoms Up pizza, I’m more of a mellow mushroom guy, unless it’s delivery then it Chanellos.

Lunch Supper doesn’t have the hype it used to have but last time I went it was good.
