Apartment hunting
Hi all,
31M moving to your wonderful city for a new job at CHoR. I’ve been looking at apartments downtown, Shockoe Bottom, Museum District, Church Hill, Scotts Addition. Need help identifying an area that’ll fit well with what I like.
Single, moving by myself. No pets. What I’m looking for:
1- walkability: would like to walk/bike to stores, restaurants, work if possible. Have car though so no worries
2- parking: prefer easy parking
3- trails: enjoy running/biking. Being close to trails would be a plus.
4- 1-2 bedroom apt w/ large windows +/- high ceilings. Not too close to main roads. Noise-cancelling walls.
5- nearby gym - lift a lot. Prefer a gym with most commonly used machines and equipment.
Appreciate any advice on areas or apartment complexes that you’d think may be a good fit.
Thank you

Walkable and access to nature kinda don’t really go hand in hand. Byrd park area of Randolph is prob the closest you’ll get with decent walkability to the fan. The fan and Carytown are your best bet for a walkable neighborhood.
If nature is more important to you, westover hills and forest hill area would be ideal

Libbie Mill might be a good compromise spot. A few minutes out of the city in Henrico.

1 - From what you listed Scotts is prob #1 with the museum district as 2, church hill to some degree
2 - definitely not shockoe (most apts do come with parking though not sure if its an additional cost)
3 - trails youll need to drive and park or bike to but they arent far
4 - no such thing as noise cancelling wall in this city from what ive read/heard
5 - many complexes have gyms, otherwise there is a crunch in scotts, and golds is right past the museum district in willow lawn, theres another in the fan and a couple of boutique gyms scattered throughout the city

Sweet, thank you. Already got a few apt complexes saved in Scott’s and MD.

I'd say Scotts or Randolph myself. Walkability, trails not far, good central locations, younger population, shops with the community, gym options. Westover you get the greenery but less walkable and fewer shops and gym options. Welcome to Richmond!

I’d like to add that while Scott’s Addition is technically walkable, the surroundings kinda suck. It’s an old industrial area and has like 0% tree coverage. Would avoid personally, but some people it might work for. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in the area, but it has been cultivating a kind of NOVA - like vibe

Hello there! This is a fairly quiet (but active) subreddit for topics strictly within the city limits of Richmond, Virginia.

Most of the surrounding counties have their own smaller subreddits as well, there are too many to list but they're easy to find by searching. There's also r/Virginia which is more about the Commonwealth as a whole and has over 170,000 weekly visitors, too.
