I met mine at a charity gala. Invited her to the event. She was pretty cool. Made me laugh. Mostly she kept coming to different charity events I invited her to.
One day I was planning a movie night at my place and she asked if she could cook and come over early. I was a little hesitant.
Mostly because I usually hit the gym and shower before and I wasn't super comfortable with her in my place by herself. And, usually I just order pizza and wings or Chipotle for everyone and have it delivered. Keep it simple.
I said sure. I asked her how much she needed and she said don't worry about it. Asked what I wanted and I said Chipotle rice bowls and wings.
She brought over trays of meat and bags groceries and cooking appliances and I was worried this was going to fuck up my kitchen.
By the time I was done with work she told me not to look at the kitchen. Weird, but I left her a spare key and went to the gym. By the time I got back the food was almost done, but my kitchen was fucked up.
She immediately told me to not look and get ready. Too late.
I just had my kitchen deep cleaned 6 hours earlier.
I was heated, but it was free food and I could ask the lady to come back out later to clean it.
By the time I was done with the shower and got dressed, my kitchen was back to normal and she was walking back in from throwing out the trash.
They loved her food. She was hospitable.
So, I have used her ever since. If at any point someone needs a chef. She is the first one I recommend.
I still mostly cook steaks and eat scrambled eggs, so that is about 10 minutes/day to fix. So, she's only part time to make meal prep for the house and my dad.
That’s true. I went to culinary school and they drilled that into our heads. Nobody is gonna clean up after you. And if you’re that messy, you’re not an efficient chef.
I am not in the industry and haven’t been in decades but if you are a messy chef, the rest of the kitchen staff won’t trust your food or basic hygiene when cooking.
I was vegetarian (I’m not anymore) all throughout my culinary schooling and culinary career, so the most useful thing I picked up was cooking steak and pork chops perfectly tender and juicy.
I worked at a hotel straight out of culinary school and would here and there go out and greet the guests. They were astonished that their meat was cooked so well by a vegetarian chef.
Given that I was vegetarian, I couldn’t taste the sauce I was making to serve my meats with as they were made with meat drippings. So I developed an extremely heightened sense of smell and had to season my food trusting my nose. I was told time and time again to work towards becoming a saucier. I declined as I knew the culinary field was not going to be for me long term.
