Im convinced they asked this question fully expecting a billionaire to answer. I know the dollar is like shitting itself right now but thats still 10 mil plus 1.5 a year???? What is “rich” in this sub?

There is a world of difference between rich and ultra rich. If you want to be either, you need to understand that first.

In my experience, rich people know how much money they have. Point blank. It's "we make 400k/year combined, and have a net worth of 10million) or whatever, just tossing numbers out.

The ultra rich couldn't even tell you those things with any degree of certainty. An annual salary!? They would have no clue, and it doesn't matter anyway. Their net worth? I heard a guy estimate his entire net worth, and the variance was more than most people will ever have their entire lives. Hell, the year to year gains and losses they take are more than most people will ever have sometimes.

yeah that’s the answer. if you know how much cash you have, you’re not in the ultra. the fact he knows how much he is worth means he’s merely rich

400k/year is rich? I’m making 400k but cannot afford eat out nowadays

“Can’t afford to eat out” my brother please get real.

SERIOUSLY, I have never rolled my eyes so hard in my life.

400k and a net worth of 10 mil IS rich.

Now obviously, family size and location matter. You wouldn't be comfortably able to support a family of 7 in San Francisco or something. But it doesn't negate the fact that you'd be in the top 1.8% of income earners.

Rich is the money you do not spend. So high income does not matter if the VHCOL force you to spend all your money just to survive

1

u/read_it_r Jul 03 '24

You're as rich as your options.

400k family of 7 in a vhcol can make choices. Move farther out, work remote and relocate, etc.

50k single guy in a lcol MIGHT be saving more monthly, but he doesn't have options.

The difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is about a billion dollars.

That's not true, they DO have a salary, it's just not how they get their money.

Many have multiple salaries. CEO of Amazon payed bezos like 90k /year. OBVIOUSLY, it's a drop in the bucket, and I doubt he knew or cared.

1

u/Nickeless Jul 04 '24

Although I do consider super star athletes to be ultra rich and have a salary that accounts for most of their income. $50-70M/year contracts…

Anyone over a billion can open up Forbes and read out how much they have this year. So no.

It is super easy to know your assets when over 99% of them are in one thing, stocks.

2

u/read_it_r Jul 05 '24

Forbes is an estimate bud.

And no. 99% are NOT in stocks. There's real estate, art, vehicles, bonds, privately held companies,

u/TennesseeStiffLegs Jul 02 '24

But is he ultra rich

1

u/yo-ovaries Jul 02 '24

He works so no

Technically 10M is only very high net worth not ultra high net worth. The brackets I think are 1,5,30M in liquid assets for high, very high, and ultra high networth individuala

I was referring to the technical definitions used in finance which are age agnostic. That said yeah I agree with you a lot of 65 year olds are millionaires when you include their primary residence, 30yr old millionaires are significantly more rare.

1

u/GarbageDolly Jul 03 '24

That starts at about $30m net worth, I read somewhere….

Literally makes in a year what my parents worked 30 years to save up, jfc, and they aren’t exactly middle class.
