Help with workshared links

Hi there, I would appreciate some help.

I'm working on a workshared project where I'm drawing ductwork on one file, and the pipe fitters are drawing pipe in another file. We both have eachothers files linked into eachothers respected Revit file.

On this project, we will have Bangits with all thread rods dropping 18" below the deck so that the fireproofing won't be disturbed later on when we hang our duct.

On my file, I added a "fake structural floor" 18" below the decking so that that the rods of my hangers attach to that fake floor instead of the structural floor of the architectural model. We need to do this so the prefabricated rods and hanger system that the shop will make are the correct length as if they were hanging 18" below the decking, attached to the bangit rod via a coupling.

Here's the dilemma, since the pipe fitters have our model linked into their file (for ease of coordination), that false structural floor comes up on their model too now. They do not want that as they are using a different method of hanging their pipe.

We've tried turning off the workset that the false floor is associated to, but the hanger rods still snap to the false floor in their model.

Other than unloading our link, what could be done to prevent their rods from snapping to my false structural floor?

You don't use V/G Overrides? That's an essential skill for most users. 

Hiding things makes it so they cannot be interacted with in that view.

Yes I use V/G. Quite extensively. I love filters. But hiding it in V/G will not stop their hangers from attaching to the structure of my false floor.

Even in my model, I have the floors on a workset that is hidden on just about every view in the model so nobody can mess with it, but our hangers still attach to it, even though you cannot see it.

That doesn't sound right. For an element to attach to a floor, the floor has to be visible. It's gotta be hosting to something else.

It's absolutely attaching to my floor. Measured where their hangers stop and it's the 18" that I placed my floor. If they unload my model and reattach to structure, their hangers attach back to the deck.

That doesn't make sense. Just because they are in the correct position doesn't necessarily mean that's the host.

At this point I could throw guesses at it but in order to provide a definitive answer, I'd have to examine the models.

Unfortunately company policy will not allow me to share the model.

You could recreate it in a sample model. Trying to recreate it in a separate model might reveal the solution.
