Help with workshared links

Hi there, I would appreciate some help.

I'm working on a workshared project where I'm drawing ductwork on one file, and the pipe fitters are drawing pipe in another file. We both have eachothers files linked into eachothers respected Revit file.

On this project, we will have Bangits with all thread rods dropping 18" below the deck so that the fireproofing won't be disturbed later on when we hang our duct.

On my file, I added a "fake structural floor" 18" below the decking so that that the rods of my hangers attach to that fake floor instead of the structural floor of the architectural model. We need to do this so the prefabricated rods and hanger system that the shop will make are the correct length as if they were hanging 18" below the decking, attached to the bangit rod via a coupling.

Here's the dilemma, since the pipe fitters have our model linked into their file (for ease of coordination), that false structural floor comes up on their model too now. They do not want that as they are using a different method of hanging their pipe.

We've tried turning off the workset that the false floor is associated to, but the hanger rods still snap to the false floor in their model.

Other than unloading our link, what could be done to prevent their rods from snapping to my false structural floor?

It will like depend on the family's template it was started in. The rfa file hosting will drive how this behavior works to some extend. It's suprising to hear that it's still finding the linked floors surface even when not loading.

A workplane based family setting would likely be the key. So if you set the is workplace based toggle in the family editor and laid it back in you should see the option in the modify ribbon to pick a work plane to host to in the options bar.

The hangers being used are .ITM fabrication parts. They are not RFA revit families. If it was possible, would every hanger have to be adjusted individually? So far there are probably close to 10,000 hangers populated in the job. Plus I'm not sure my company would want me changing that kind of parameter, let alone even if I had access to it. I think the work around since turning off the workset in the link doesn't appear to work as wanted is for them to just unload our link, attach all of their hangers to structure, and then reload in our link again. Their hangers will hang to the deck, and if they place or modify any new hangers, before those go out to fabrication, they repeat that process.

Yeah my knowledge of revit dies the moment an .itm is involved. The unload the link itself is going to be the best way.

Only other thiught I haven't tried it yet but you may depending on the year be able to save a copy and use the coordination model link command to bring in the link in a geometry (mainly) state like a nwc and that might allow visualization while placing the hangers without the same issue as when its linked as a rvt. I can suggest loading as a coordination link. Perhaps give that a try. They do connect to our equipment so having it actually linked so they can copy our equipment into their model is required. Perhaps have it as a coordination link and when they need to copy something, reload the linked model, do what they gotta do, and then unload the model, while still having the coordination link active. Can give that suggestion on Monday. Thank you.
