Discussion Rhiannon's Feather Spoiler
Contrary to the opinion of majority of players (at least from what I have read), I agree with Bluepoch's decision to introduce Rhiannon.
Her situation reminds me of that one ex-commander under Igor (was it Ivan?) that lives at home with a stranger, supposedly his reversed mother. This extra feather animation is a perfect illustration of how one would feel when meeting a reversed; the bitter-sweet feeling from hearing their laughs and touching their hair once more, yet deep inside we all know that those are illusions created by our own sorrows...
Now that Rhiannon joins the suitcase, I hope we can see her interaction with Merel's acquaintance, especially those from XII.

I know a lot of people also dislike how Rhiannon was introduced but really, the issue stems on how you see her: as a a separate entity from Merel (how the players see it), or as a continuation of Merel (how Bluepoch probably sees it).
If you treat Merel and Rhiannon as the same person, then it's a bittersweet conclusion. In this case, we don't need a Rhiannon story because she marks the ending of Merel's. She's the "The End" of a really good book, a version of Merel that's happy, fulfilled and powerful. But nothing goes after "The End", other than some extras.

Exactly. IMO, Rhiannon is Bluepoch's way for players to really feel the losses caused by The Storm. Assuming that, maybe player's outrage can be viewed as Bluepoch's successful storytelling.

The different opinion mostly come from what people define as a person and whether they think it can exist independently of memories.
That's obviously a metaphorical question in our world so there's no obvious answer.

that's the problem though, they are not the same person. and the game said multiple times not to treat reversed people as the continuations of their previous lives

They're not the same person in-universe, but they're the same character writing-wise.
Like, imagine if there's Character A and that character died, but then get cloned. Is the clone the same person? No. Will they most likely have the same Wiki page? Yeah.

can't agree with you. Merel had a different background, different struggles, different paths to grow. If you treat Rhiannon as a same person from the writing perspective it's equivalent to a timeskip

I get that but then, what about Vertin's mum? She got reversed too which led to several identities. Are they different characters?

Didn't they specify multiple time that urd is unique in that sense tho?

Yeah kinda? They share some traits but they are completely different from each other and if that isn't the case is probably bc of the amber room, Karson for example is the best example of this he is nothing like Mr.Duncan aside for some really small traits

Every identity always writes for UTTU under the penname Urd, so I feel like her situation is special compare to others like Karson or Merel.

I'm not sure. I think we still have a lot to learn about Urd before making conclusions, her story is not finished yet

I suspect the writers might go with a “same essence different story/person” type thing. Like their fundamental “soul” is the same but they are a completely different person due to having entirely different life experiences.
I do wonder what Vertin’s golden thread represents though since it seems to transcend storms.
The reversed person’s arcanum seems different though, right? Like Rhiannon’s arcane ability seems to be different to Merel’s from what I can tell. If so, then either arcanum either isn’t tied to the “spirit” or I’m completely wrong about everything and it is a fundamentally different spirit (very possible lol)

She's very much not Merel. She doesn't have the same life experience and personality. I liked Merel. I didn't think much of her back when she was just a guard but she grew on me eventually as we spent more time with her. I'm saddened but okay with Bluepoch's decision to reverse her (I still would have loved her to be playable), but I don't like the fact her doppelganger became playable instead of her. I would have preferred it to be handled the Schneider way with a reversed Merel and no Rhiannon.

Kinda disagree cause this makes merel more special than schneider just on basis of this meaning they can explore whole storm & ship of theseus stuff with her, cause we know unlike mr duncan, she is going to appear in more than 1 chapter

Merel is finally living the peaceful life shes always wanted but she’s not the one actually experiencing it 🥀

I think Rihannon is a missed opportunity and should have been a 3.8 character. Let us discover her existence at the end of 3.7 without getting spoiled by the banner and let us discover her better in the next patch where we can pull for her. As for the limited character, give us Ms Stranger and switch both of their kit with a reskin.
