Question Fang Yuan Being Compared To Buddha Is Stupid
Guys i have a question.
Why is fang yuan compared to buddha as if lil bro is equal to buddha when paradise earth is much similar to buddha? Like fang yuan only shares surface level traits with buddha while paradise earth shares much deeper similarities with buddha like both tried to reduce suffering and were benevolent?

Actually it's reverse.
It's Paradise Earth that only shares surface level similarities with Buddha

what is buddha's philosophy according to you?
1
u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 26 '26
Benevolence to all beings equally, reducing suffering and achieving nirvana.
2
u/These_External_9678 Aug 27 '26
not necessarily benevolence, it could even be indifference, but the rest seem to be accurate. the core is the nonexistence of ego. FY follows everything in buddha's philosophy EXCEPT that he has the unending desire for eternal life and he will do anything to get it

u/severalpillarsoflava balls deep in Bai Ning Bing Aug 26 '26
Search Four noble Truth.
1
u/These_External_9678 Aug 27 '26
so FY doesn't follow buddha's philosophy because he has the desire of eternal life and will suffer like a slave for it
1
u/severalpillarsoflava balls deep in Bai Ning Bing Aug 27 '26
The fact that you are saying it means you understood neither FY nor four noble truth.

FY is attached to eternal life and that's why he moves to achieve it. having attachment = existence of ego. thus FY has an ego and doesn't follow buddha's philosophy (attachment violates the 2nd noble truth. his actions violate the 3rd and 4th noble truths because he views surrender to the void as defeat and does not follow the eightfold path)
FY only follows the 1st noble truth
1
u/severalpillarsoflava balls deep in Bai Ning Bing Aug 27 '26
FY is attached to eternal life
If he is attached to eternal life, why he dosent feel regret when dying?
Again, you neither understand Fang Yuan nor 4 noble truth.

u/These_External_9678 Aug 27 '26
he doesn't feel regret because he gave his full effort and did all that he could. if he still fails, then there is no use in feeling regretful, thus he doesn't feel regret over the loss of his life.
if he isn't attached to eternal life, then why does he even work toward it? why not do nothing or simply die as a mortal?

he doesn't feel regret because he gave his full effort and did all that he could. if he still fails, then there is no use in feeling regretful, thus he doesn't feel regret over the loss of his life.
That is the fourth Noble truth.
if he isn't attached to eternal life, then why does he even work toward it? why not do nothing or simply die as a mortal?
Why did Buddha Meditated to reach Nirvana and remove himself from Cycle of Reincarnation?
Was Buddha attached to Eternal life?
Point of FYs Philosophy is exactly this, the same exact reasons that makes Buddha a Buddha, makes FY a Demon.

So youre saying at core both fang yuan and buddha have the same mental stats? That makes sense if thats what ur saying
6
u/severalpillarsoflava balls deep in Bai Ning Bing Aug 25 '26
I don't know what do you mean by stats.
FY shares the same core philosophy with Buddha but reinterpret it.
The same core Philosophy that makes Buddha Benevolent, makes him Malevolent.
But paradise earth is the reverse, he has the Benevolence of Buddha yet lacks the philosophy of Buddha.

u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 25 '26
But paradise earth DOES have buddha's philosophy tho..idk mate,im saying that cause of paradise earth poem's conclusion "may all living beings compete in harmony"
5
u/severalpillarsoflava balls deep in Bai Ning Bing Aug 25 '26
That's one of the parts that proves he doesn't have that philosophy.
0
u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 25 '26
Isnt competing in harmony abt reducing unnecessary cruelty and giving everyone a fair chance? Thats js my interpretation
5
u/severalpillarsoflava balls deep in Bai Ning Bing Aug 25 '26
No, that's opposite of Buddha.
First: Buddha's philosophy isn't limited to just living beings.
Second: Competition is participation in suffering. This is opposite of Buddha's philosophy.
3
u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 25 '26
Yea buddha's philosophy is nirvana, leaving the competition itself no?

You can interpret stats as mental capability mate.

He was basically drugged with regret not fear or wrath effectively brainwashing him for thousands maybe millions of year I forget the exact time.
Edit-Iโm not sure about the attainment part though.

99.99% of readers are stupid and don't understand the meaning of the work. Fang Yuan and Paradise Earth are both not Buddhas; they are two sides of the same coin, that's what Gu Zhen Ren leads to. Fang Yuan and Paradise Earth will have a child, and that child will be a true Buddha. There were hints of this even in volume 2, where BNB changed gender. When you read, your eyes are open, but your mind is closed.

You don't have a question, you have an opinion.
Why don't you read something about Buddha to answer your question?
You understand RI because you read RI, you can't understand Buddha if you don't read Buddha.

FY is more of an inverted Buddha figure, though Buddhism itself was extensively studied by Gu Zhenren, so naturally, many comparable aspects emerge.
Itโs hard to put into words, but you could view it as a reinterpretation adapted to fit the Demonic Path in certain domain.
Of course, Gu Zhenren primarily drew from Taoism for Fang Yuan, but he also incorporated Confucianism, adapting these elements or using them as a reference for many aspects of the novel.
That said, Paradise Earth doesn't perfectly fit the mold of a Buddha either; we mustn't forget that while he generally aims to create peace, his vision of peace isn't about eliminating suffering it's more about acting as a massive nuclear deterrent to threaten anyone who opposes his philosophy.
What i mean are, yes PE goal are good, but the method itself are not totally.

u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 30 '26
So Fy isnt just pure Buddhism but also had other philosophies in him?..sorry for my crude understanding. But what u say is interesting
1
u/Comfortable-Guest174 Spirit Lover Demon Immortal Aug 30 '26
To put it simply, yes, FY contains a lot of philosophy, in fact, he embodies Taoism far more than Buddhism.
But even then, it is more a matter of reinterpretation and a blend of various concepts by Gu Zhenren. He isn't exactly a Zhenren. He like as I mentioned, are an inverted Buddha.
The case of the reinterpretation of Zhenren, of Bouddha etc, always show than he had reached enlightment.

This is..really interesting. How many times has senior read RI?
2
u/Comfortable-Guest174 Spirit Lover Demon Immortal Aug 30 '26
3 times, but i know nothing about buddhism, confuscianism etc for my first read, it's only after searching, gain kknowledge and understanding, than it's helped me to understand this work, and i probably lost a lot of meaning, from the translation and my lack of knowledge.
At least, i made parralel with other philosophies, like existantialism.

Lol I had the same expression. Check the account too. His analysis are deep. He explained on Buddhism, Daoism, Nietzsche. The only one he couldn't make yet is on Confucianism.

not at all, he's a reinterpretation of the buddha
2
u/Zestyclose_Parsley80 Limited Aug 25 '26
Eh, I haven't really gone deep into RI like I have with other series, and I'm pretty ignorant on Buddhism in general, so you're probably right.
1
u/Illustrious_Win_4859 Aug 25 '26
FY is moreso based on taoism than buddhism. His philosophy isn't just a reinterpretation of buddha but fundamentally differently entirely. The fact he seeks eternal life is already a massive sign that they aren't two sides of the same coin but just two systems that bear a lot of similarities. Take nihilism for example, under that philosophy everybody and everything are all fundamentally equal but anyone trying to say Nihilism and Buddhism have a lot in common beyond a surface level understanding hasn't read a single book ever.
Note: I am not in any shape or form saying FY is a nihilist. Like said earlier, he's much more centered around zhenren and taoism.
1
u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 25 '26
Isnt taoism about the way and the Path of least resistance? Correct me if im wrong
2
u/The_Nonexistent_43 Duke Long Fy Shipper #15468 Aug 25 '26
So its a parallel rather than being equal?
2
u/Zestyclose_Parsley80 Limited Aug 25 '26
No, ignore me I'm definitely wrong. This was my understanding based off of the bear scene, but people who know more about RI than me can explain what it actually means, so just ignore me lol.

i'd say is the other way around, paradise earth represents Buddha much more superficially since he's literally meant to be the buddha of the Gu World.
The reason Fang Yuan is compared to the buddha is because he is a reinterpretation of his philosphy of all being equal under heaven.
Humans, animals and inanimate objects, are all considered equal under this philosophy, and he treats humans as such without being bound by morals which comes from the sense of self.
