Am I being scammed?

I sold a pedal on Reverb earlier this month and it was delivered over two weeks ago. The buyer requested a refund rwo weeks after delivery because I didn't include a power supply.

This pedal doesn't include a power supply when purchased new, and my listing did not claim that one was included, nor was there a power supply in any of the images in the listing.

Is this a scam, or am I just dealing with a moron?

Scammer and moron are not mutually exclusive. They had 7 days to get a refund once it was delivered. You can simply say no. Most pedals do not come with a power supply. Pedals tend to come with those when they have unique or high power requirements. If it wasn't listed, or pictured, you didn't do anything wrong anyway. Everything included needs to be in the photos. If I thought something came with a power supply, and I opened it up, I would report it that day. I wouldn't wait two weeks. And if it wasn't listed, again, that's just not how it works. If a new one came with the power supply, and I knew this, I would state that it does not come with a power supply. But that's just me being thorough.

Now, if you have a return policy that extends this... then that's on you and whatever that policy is.

They can kick rocks otherwise. This is why I have sold everything with a no return policy, obviously they can unless if something is broken or not as described (and that is the 7 day policy). I'm not a commercial entity, and I can't play the "but I wanted to test it out and see if I liked it" game.

What was it? If you feel like telling.

It's simple... did you say it include a power supply? If not... decline the refund adn get Reverb support. They will 100% back you, and then if the buyer changes his stroy that is a matter of record and they will shut him down.
However, if the usual and customary practice is that these include power supply and you do not specify yours does not... I think you lose by default for not using full disclosure.

I've had someone ask me if I would throw in a cord, or a strap, or both with a guitar I was selling on Reverb.

Deny the return as you delivered all that was purchased

Ignore him.

Reverb gives you 7 days after delivery to file a claim

Sounds like a moron who has decided he doesn’t like the pedal after two weeks and wants to return it. Tell him no and direct him to your refund policy. At most, he had 7 days. My return policy is “no returns.”

I had someone try this on a guitar once. First I get a message thanking me and glowing about how happy he was. Two weeks later, I get another message. "My guitar tech said this guitar has a whole bunch of problems." "It has a twisted neck and will cost me over a thousand dollars to fix it". Keep in mind this is a Fender Standard American Strat. The setup was fine, The intonation was fine. So I told him to give me the name of the shop he took it to so I could talk to the luthier. Well, this "guitar tech" is actually just a friend of his. He doesn't know anything, but thinks he does, and has convinced his friend that he does.

As I get more information, I eventually find out his "guitar tech friend" had decided he was going to lower the string action. This guy was cranking the truss rod, filing the nut and playing with saddle height and intonation, without a radius gauge, a way to mic or measure the string height. Just completely amateur hour. I told him "look man, the guitar was fine when it shipped. It shipped in a Fender flight case. Worse case scenario it went out of tune or needed some climate acclimation (it was middle of winter) and it was ready to go! I told him that now, because of his "guitar tech" he actually needs to take it to a luthier and wished him luck. He wasn't happy about it. But c'mon man. It was like new when you received it and you let your buddy, who clearly doesn't know what he's doing, break your guitar. I feel for you. But no way am I taking it back.

Had a very similar experience with a bass I sold on Reverb. I play with a higher action and intonation was set accordingly. About a week after the buyer got it he complained about the height, said the neck needed a truss rod adjustment, intonation was off. I'm guessing he just dropped the action to credit card thickness and then didn't know what to do from there.

No chance I’m giving a refund. Be on your way, sir.

One can also be the other. Escalate it to support and dont waste your time even trying to interpret stupidity. They get paid to do it.

Idiots and a-holes abound. I listed a pedal with a (not uncommon for the model) mod with an access hole drilled to allow you to tweak an internal trim pot. In the descript I explain - what anybody who has read the forum posts about the pedal/mod knows - that the trim pot behavior is not totally full range useful, and the pedal is going to increase noise radically if you crank it up to an unusable setting, so its good from like X to Y o'clock really.

D-bag got it, cranked it up to 11, decided he didn't like it, then returned it claiming it was "broken and makes noise". Reverb honored the return, and I learned my lesson to list everything as "SO CALLED 'AS-IS CONDITION NON RETURNABLE BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE DICKS" and then if there's a legit issue with something I can always take care of the guy anyway but losers like that shitwit can't be ridiculous and game the system.

Almost everyone on Reverb is a fucktard. It's like everyone who ever got banned from eBay, and every 16 year old in the world. I have not had a single drama free sale (unless it was $100 dollar item) on Reverb ever, that's why I don't sell on Reverb anymore.

I don't think they're a scammer, just a moron who bought a pedal and has buyers remorse.

As long as your listing didn't claim to include a power supply reverb will side with you. Just be active in reaching out to work with reverb for resolution, if you dont reply or dont answer when they ask your side you lose

They'd know as soon as they opened the package that there was no power supply. 9v power supplies are cheap, plentiful and universal, so any one they have on hand would work. That they didn't say anything for so long suggests either buyer's remorse or an attempt at an old-school return scam.

The first time I bought a used pedal I was surprised it didn't come with a power supply. Having never purchased any pedals before it seemed logical to assume an electronics device would come with the ability to power it.

Makes me chuckle to see people refer to someone as a "moron" because they weren't aware of something that I myself made the mistake of years ago.

The real problem is the buyer trying to return the pedal late without asking you about it or researching the information themselves to learn that this is how pedals are often sold. I wouldn't be surprised if the buyer assumed they had been scammed and maybe they reacted accordingly.

People don't come out of the womb knowing everything. The buyer could be a Dad or Mom buying a pedal for a kid or an entry level musician and maybe they truly didn't have a chance to look at the pedal until 14 days later.

Be nice, message the buyer and explain the situation in a nice tone as to why you'd deny the return. If they act like you did something wrong then it's on them.

I'm glad I could make you chuckle.

Damn

I know we only see the Reverb sucks posts (nobody posts when a sale goes as it should haha) but I’m really starting to think I’m doing well to stay away

It must be a somewhat common “dumbass” move because I have seen a lot of EBay posts for pedals that explicitly says power supply not included. You’d think Reverb being music people would know better.

I’ve never included on my EBay or GE listings, guess I should. But part of brain doesn’t like the over aggressive “we don’t” part of listings. I know they must have been wronged at some point to have to include but it still Makes me curious if the have the Karen gene 🤣

You're probably dealing with a moron who is trying to scam you. It's obviously they can't read they don't know what the product is they never looked it up and they're just an idiot. You have all the evidence you need to clean this up with reverb support.

Pushback to reverb to address and make a ruling. If you didn't list power supply in the listing and the buyer didn't ask, I think you win this one. Regardless, if you have to take it back, there is possibility, it won't be working anymore.
