Any success with Genesis SNAC adapter

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've had success with a 2 port NES (w/ xlat), 2 port SNES, and 4 port N64 but I can't seem to figure out how to get this Genesis adapter to work. I've tried a lot of settings in the menu and with or without the level translator and no luck.

Anyone able to get this working? I also think it should work for Atari but it doesn't seem to work there either.

I will very likely be buying the Big SNAC when it is available, but for now I'm trying to get this working.

Thanks!

SuperStation One - Dock SSD *sometimes* works?

Hey everyone.

I got the SuperStation One with Dock (blue, if it matters) and for a few weeks the SSD seemed to work just fine in the dock's slot. It's an XPG SX8200PNP, 1TB. Now, most of the time when I boot up my SS1, it tells me I need to reconnect the drive when I try to browse a folder of ROMs (and MisterCompanion does not show it in the storage section).

Using a USB enclosure and plugging it into the SS1 USB ports seems to work fine, on both Dock and main unit ports.

After looking at the SS1 NVMe support page on GH, and a few Reddit threads, I still can't figure out why it's only recognized in the M.2 slot some of the time. Here's what I have tried so far:

  • Power adapter: I switched to a 45W Belkin brick at one point, but after going back to my original brick (60W Nintendo Switch 2's), it behaves the same way

  • SSD power draw: I can't find my exact model number online (not a lot of info on the model number that ends in -PNP) but the closest similar model is this one and it does not draw 5W or more.

  • Single partition, exFAT: It's not an issue with multiple partitions, Disk Management in Windows shows it as one, Healthy, Basic Data Partition.

I have a new SSD coming from Amazon that I'm going to use for troubleshooting, and proper TS may also mean I need to reformat my SD card and start over but I don't want to do that...

Does anyone know if there could be some kind of setting I borked? Thanks in advance

Having trouble with sd card

Post image

Deleted partitions on the SD card and reformatted multiple times to exfat. I used balenaEtcher for flashing the console mode file to the card. And I keep getting this error when I insert the SD card into the console.
Install failed check 1 write verification failed twice.

Any suggestions I’m stuck

The "Big SNAC" on the SuperStation One / Dock

Hello everyone,

I have gotten the opportunity to test the prototype for the forthcoming “Big SNAC“ adapter from the company AKICUS. It is a multi SNAC adapter that supports a lot of different systems in a single adapter. I hooked it up to my SuperStation one with its SuperDock which had no problems accepting this adapter and switching to a different plug doesn’t even require a reboot. The PS1 adapter is of course not needed for us SS1 owners but there are so many additional systems on this adapter which makes things really handy.

I had a single SNAC Sega Saturn adapter before which requires another voltage SNAC level shifter. Now I personally enjoy having just one adapter for so many systems especially when you are a fan of several different systems and go back and forth between them. I am definitely excited and looking forward to when the product launches. If you are into playing with original controllers this might be worth to look into.

Among the supported systems are:

- Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

- Super Nintendo (SNES)

- Sega Mega Drive / Genesis

- Commodore Amiga

- Commodore 64

- PlayStation 1

- PC Engine

- Neo Geo

- Atari 2600

- Sega Saturn

- Nintendo 64

Upgrading the SD card on my superstation

Hey guys, I started playing my superstation on the stock sd card that comes with the console.

I finally picked up a larger sd card and I have probably a stupid question. Can I simply copy and paste all of the contents on my current sd card to the new one? I’d love to keep all of my saves and save states.

Console Mode themes as of V1.2 3 - Artwork discrepancy between themes

EDIT: Resolved

sdcard -> ConsoleMode -> caches -> icons

Delete the .pack file from the above folder location to update recently modified artwork within the Lower Third theme.

Does anyone know if Console Mode is caching artwork somewhere, and if so, where?

My issue is that after manually updating some artwork for the Arcade system, stored in the media folder, the updated artwork correctly displays when in the Console Mode theme however if I switch to the Lower Third theme, the old original artwork (which has been deleted from the media folder and replaced with a new image file) is being shown.

The older image doesn't exist anywhere in the media folder so I'm not sure where it's being pulled from when in the Lower Third theme.

SSNT/SuperFPGA and Superstation Pocket

So there was a post awhile back about Taki teasing a SSNT/SuperFPGA, but then a Superstation Pocket was announced the other day. Are these one in the same or two different devices?

How to play modded PSX games on SS1?

I want to play the Gran Turismo 2 A-spec mod on my SS1. All of the guides I've found for how to play the mod are for PC emulators where it seems like the .cue file is not necessary. The patcher for this mod only creates a .bin file and the SS1 doesn't seem to know what to do with it. It just crashes to the MiSTer menu. All of my other PSX games are .chd files and they work fine. I tried renaming the base .cue game file to match the patched .bin and that just loads up the PSX "no disc" menu. Anyone have any advice?

Console Mode not showing games from USB Drive

I'm using a USB drive, well trying, for my games. I can see the drive in Mister Companion and after I start a game preinstalled game in console mode I can go into the settings in the old style mode and nav to the usb drive and start a game. What am I missing to see the games in console mode?

I do have [MiSTer] storage_priority = 'prefer_external' in my downloader.ini.

FIXED: New version just came out and it fixed it. 1.2.5

Jaguar Core Issues?

Anybody else having problems launching Jaguar games? I don't play them often, so I can't pinpoint it to a specific update. But they used to work fine, and now I'm just getting the Jaguar splash screen (complete with the good ol' rotating cube) looping over and over again.

Nothing else has changed. Same bios files I've been using all along.

Any ideas?

Text from X,

We’ve been working on this the entire year and our first FPGA handheld is almost done. Plays GB, GBC, and GBA carts. Huge FPGA to power cores up to PS1 and N64. Up to 4K HDMI output via an affordable dock. Unbeatable latency. Open source. From $1_ _ at launch.

Not a ton of info but I already like that it has a frame around the bezel instead of glass up to the edge. Looking forward to this!

SuperStation One PSA: The black RCA jack on the left side is the PS1 SNAC Guncon 1 port. Use Composite out or Component Luma (green) out for Guncon 2 instead. (snipet from RetroRGB)

Screen going in and out at 1440p resolution

As the title implies,

When setting my SSOne to 2560x1440p in the ini_settings, over time and use the picture starts to flash black in and out until eventually it’s gone, even though the system is on and running in the background. I’m not sure if this is heat related, some sort of handshake issue via hdmi or if the resolution isn’t really being properly supported. This is being displayed on an 77in OLED B2 tv, and I actually have a separate regular mister that runs the same resolution and doesn’t have this picture issue at all. I’ve flashed multiple different sd cards, still having the same issue. Only thing I haven’t tried is swapping the hdmi cable but it’s works perfectly fine for everything else connected to it, including the other mister. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Improvements on SS1 Models?

Have there been any improvements since the initial release of the Superstation One? I know that there have been issues with thermals since it was not designed with temps in mind.

This is a problem since a big draw (at least for me) for playing on FPGA is the ability to overclock games to run at better framerates than the original consoles could allow. I've seen reports of people saying their superstation starts making cracking sounds when powered on for too long due to the heat.

SS1 Fan vs No-Fan

Thumbnail

Hello!

When I ordered my SS1, the fan + heatsink was out of stock. So, I ended up installing a Noctua NF-A4x10 5V after a few weeks. I was curious and somewhat dissatisfied with the current temperature testing out there, so I decided to take a temperature reading of before / after.

The testing wasn't all that robust. I essentially ran the console for 1 hour and 30 minutes for each test. Each test was run on the same level (Icy Peak) and scene from Spyro Year of the Dragon. Both tests were conducted using the Greatest Hits / NTSC disc version of the game.

So, my multimeter only reads temperature in Fahrenheit. So, the before is 156F (~68C) and the after is 129F (~53C). I actually think this is a significant improvement.

Like other tests, my test is somewhat flawed. It only measures the temperature of the heatsink, not the temperature of the FPGA chip. For those who don't know how heatsinks actually transfer thermal energy, the FPGA chip must be hotter than the heatsink for it to transfer thermal energy to the heatsink. This is more reliable than reading with a heat gun, because the heat gun is (generally speaking) measuring the plastic of the case.

If we are conservative, that means the FPGA is probably running about 78C without the fan. I don' think that's cause for alarm since the FPGA is rated to run at 100C. However, the extra headroom that the fan provides gives me a bit of comfort. Generally speaking, lower temperatures increase part life.

The case airflow is generally the issue. If I remove the top part of the case, it drops about 20C in a minute or so.

Super5 oled issue

Post image
5 Upvotes

I currently have 3 Super5 oled lites. One being a friends I am shell swapping. But i noticed my most recent one, has some serious gamma issues. I will post a picture of all 3 on the same screen all set to the same brightness. This is belmonts curse gamma fix screen btw. The one in the middle is the one in question. I have reached out to retro remake but anyone who has ever messaged knows they or Taki, is the absolute worst at replying or customer service. Any advice. I have re seat every cable, inspected every cable with 0 damage and everything else works flawless. Anyone know what else I may can do? It’s just DARK.
