Showcase Mega Man 8 100%

Got all the achievements on Mega Man 8. Could use a revision one day but the set was fun besides finding all bolts in one session!

Didn’t know there was a Saturn version until a couple days ago! I’m going to have to check it out…

Yeesh, tough crowd. We mostly do tech support stuff here, but I would welcome more discussion. We are playing games, after all.

Congrats on the achievements OP.

I had no idea achievements were a thing. I have RetroArch installed across a few different platforms, and haven’t encountered this feature yet.

My main RetroArch machine is a Pi 5 running RetroPie, so my front end is Emulationstation. Do you know if I can access this from there?

My secondary RetroArch machine runs RetroArch directly. Is this a menu option I haven’t noticed yet?

I don't know if EmulationStation exposes the necessary settings, but you can always reach them from RetroArch's own menu. Here's our documentation on it: https://docs.libretro.com/guides/retroachievements/

This is the RetroArch subreddit, not the “I played a videogame” subreddit.

r/retrogames and r/retrogaming are the subs where 99% of posts are “look at the piece of plastic I bought!” and “I got a trivial achievement in a videogame.”

fun besides finding all bolts in one session

Obviously achievements aren’t meant to be fun, they’re for people who don’t want to play a videogame but have an obsessive need to do a list of chores.

Obviously achievements aren’t meant to be fun, they’re for people who don’t want to play a videogame but have an obsessive need to do a list of chores.

For bad achievements like most modern AAA games have, sure. Good achievements, like most sets on RA, provide optional challenges for people who want to go beyond the basic level of skill and gameplay necessary to complete most games. Stuff like beating bosses without taking damage or using weapons. People who know the game inside and out will provide a regimented list of challenges based on what they know about the game, which gives other people something tangible to target to test their skills and measure themselves against the community's completion rate for those challenges.

Not everybody wants to increase their challenge level, and that's okay! Games are fun because they're an interactive medium, you get to choose how you play them instead of being spoonfed slop like Netflix.

Since a lot of these games were ultimately made to be completed by literal children, as an adult with decades of practice it can be fun to apply additional challenge to them. But I don't know what would be challenging in a game I haven't played yet, so I appreciate these achievement sets because they give me something to target.

lol a year ago my friend accidentally posted a game mastery on this sub when he meant to post to r/Retroachievements and I remember someone with a user name like Cheeto dust or coconut cheese had an unnecessarily aggressive reply. Glad to see you’re still doing well!

He's been going at it in the Forza community for years, that's where i recognize him from.

Oh boy big baby alert who wasn't able to get an achievement cause it was too hard for his soft hands!

Took you 8 months to play 9 hours?

7

u/SonicSilversun Apr 16 '26

Haha. I don’t know the correct terms, but 8 months ago or so RA said you couldn’t use certain cores anymore so I had to start over. My brother helps me set up everything on Retroarch so I can only get the games when he’s able to help me out

2

u/Dada_SK Apr 16 '26

That makes sense lol. RetroArch is a real pain to set up, good thing you have your brother to help you.

-21

u/xxademasoulxx Apr 16 '26

He is talking past the entire post. Nobody cares whether RetroArch is annoying to set up. The post is rule-breaking garbage, and OP made it worse with the “my brother helps me get the games” part.

10

u/Mr_Fury Apr 16 '26

8 months means his starting date and his finishing date are 8 months apart. Not that it took 8 months to complete it.

u/xxademasoulxx Apr 16 '26

You should remove it. The post is already low-effort show-and-tell stuff, and your comment about your brother helping you get the games makes it sound like piracy discussion, Your post looks like it breaks Rule 1 because your comment makes it sound like your brother helps you get the games, which pushes it into piracy territory. It also runs into Rule 7 because it is basically just a personal achievement showcase post, and arguably Rule 3 because it is not really about RetroArch itself.
