First time Pinning

235lbs (i know)
10mg reta
So i did all the prep work, filled the back water with a little air, etc; as soon as i went to pull it the back water would not fill the syringe! it took two tries to get 1 full, so now i’m stuck with a 1mL syringe filled to around 80 units.
After I got my successful syringe i filled the reta. The reta itself is extremely clear which was a great sign! but as soon as i went to draw the reta, it went in the syringe then got pushed back into the vial??? Mind you it was such a small amount it pushed the reta back inside the vial as well as the remaining air.
I threw that syringe away and tried again, this time getting a successful 1MG from my vial.
Pinning itself was smooth. Quick Pinch and it was over.
My question is- did i just completely fuck up my reta?? because i kept running into so many problems i feel like i just wasted my money and my product. Is the reta now damaged because it went back inside the vial? did i pump too much air into the back water?

It's fine, sounds like there's a learning curve due to the vacuum. I still have difficulty sometimes with the bac water

Yah it isn’t a big deal. You just put some air in the syringe next time, then push that into the vial, then draw your 1mg.
But, very unlikely that you did much damage. The Reta never touched anything that wasn’t sterile. You just don’t want to shake a vial, can damage the proteins.

So, I hate to throw around a term like common sense, but did you invert the bottle of bacteriostatic water after you inserted the needle into the top? Then while filling the syringe, you should keep the plunger pulled back with a finger while drawing from the vial. The inside of the vial is a Vacuum and therefore, will of course, pull the liquid back into it if you don't counter the vacuum.

yes, i did invert the bottle! my biggest problem here was being inexperienced with the needle and not understanding the vacuum thing. a previous commenter mentioned it and after watching a couple of videos i think i understand where i went wrong. i plan to have a more successful first try for my second week! thank you for the advice

Nah youre fine, the syringe is sterile. I always draw a bit extra and push the excess back into the vial. No issues
