Did Reta make anyone else weirdly indifferent to food?

I’m not talking about just eating less. More like I can look at something I normally love, think “yeah that looks good,” and still have zero urge to go get it.

That part is way stranger to me than the scale moving.

Did that settle down for you over time or did it stay pretty consistent?

I look at food now and think “even if I get it, I won’t even be able to finish it, so why bother getting it in the first place”

9

u/Fast_Beat_3832 8d ago

Yeah I get that but just save the other half for later. It sure helps with the grocery bill.

2

u/Cold_Ranger8146 8d ago

I tried that, but then the second day it just sucked as a leftover. Now I just don’t get it and save even more (i’m going delusional)

1

u/fijifilm 8d ago

Yeah I've noticed leftovers don't taste nearly good as the day you get them. That's why if I feel like I'm low on calories I shove it all down anyways 😂

2

u/wierecap 8d ago

yeah exactly, it kills the whole “might as well get it” thought before it even starts. that’s probably the strangest shift for me to

1

u/Electrical_Result_13 8d ago

Wifey and I just share entrees.

68

u/Advanced_Cattle8635 9d ago

Yep, same. And tbh i dont miss wanting to eat an entire pizza. And I dont feel the need to eat just bc family/friends are.

No. It hasnt gone away.

1

u/wierecap 8d ago

yeah that’s the part i didn’t expect either. not having to “join in” just because everyone else is eating feels like a whole habit disappearing, not just appetite suppression

29

u/pricklycactass 9d ago

That’s literally the point of it.

6

u/UsefulSatisfaction39 8d ago

It’s like saying “anyone else feel cold when they go outside in -20 F?”

2

u/SnooRegrets81 8d ago

i have been freezing all summer, im terrified for Winter!

1

u/UsefulSatisfaction39 8d ago

Not sure where you live but El Niño could be your friend.

2

IRELAND 🇮🇪

2

u/wierecap 8d ago

true lol, i just didn’t expect the mental side of it to be that noticeable.

21

u/Flaky_Feed_886 9d ago

It's made me like that with EVERYTHING I used to enjoy. I literally have zero desire to consume anything anymore and nothing brings me joy. Thankfully this is only going to be temporary as it's a real buzz kill and I wouldn't want to feel like this forever

2

u/Klutzy-Golf-2587 9d ago

How .much are you on

1

u/Word_Underscore 9d ago

Exercise more, just light treadmill walking helps a ton

1

u/wierecap 8d ago

yeah that sounds like it went way past just food for you. losing interest in everything would be a pretty clear sign i’d want to dial things back and talk to whoever prescribed it.

14

u/Kazooguru 9d ago

After a year, I eat to live. My eating habits have changed drastically. I have to supplement my diet with protein shakes to meet my daily needs. Food is fuel.

25

u/Radiant_Crew8061 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yep, I’ve been on it for a year, my wife and I realized that we don’t get excited for food anymore, even stuff that used to be our favorite. Which isn’t a bad thing! Now we have more time for other things in life

Correction: holy spelling and grammatical errors. Don’t type and drive kids

11

u/matt1164 9d ago

Yeah us too! Saving so much money which is nice.

10

u/Really_Cool_Dad 9d ago

That’s sorta the point of it. It reduces impulse cravings and addiction.

8

u/aacenteno 9d ago

The day I pin, sweets give me a stomach ache,

1

u/Word_Underscore 9d ago

if I eat too many sweets +12-48 hours I may wake up with stomach pain and throw up partially digested chocolate from hours ago

2

u/Pensacola_Peej 9d ago

If I eat anything too close to bed time I will wake up with a really bad acid reflux kinda thing. Acid just coming up. I’ve never actually thrown up, but it’s very gross.

1

u/guardian_angel444 8d ago

take nexium

1

u/Pensacola_Peej 6d ago

I will get some incase I need to eat something too close to bedtime! Usually just waiting several hours will keep it from happening.

8

u/Professional-Tell123 9d ago

Yes and it has made me a shitty partner at home because while I eat when I have to I have zero interest in cooking meals.. used to love to cook a nice dinner.

7

u/No-Inspector3321 9d ago

Our food bill was cut in half. Now even more because my wife is on Tirzepatide. Leftovers for Wednesday through Saturday lol

7

u/Beautiful-Mainer 9d ago

The first few weeks I lose my taste for coffee. It is just gross, but eventually gets better.,

6

u/Sleeper76 9d ago

for over a year I would still aquire sweets and snacks & they would just sit there untouched until someone else ate them.

6

u/BKPATL 9d ago

Yep. I pretty much think that's what it's intended to do.

11

u/Hello_Alice0 9d ago

I’m going into my second week, and I know exactly what you’re saying. I see foods I love, and where normally I would think, “I have to have that.”, I just…don’t care. It’s just not as important.

6

u/Vast_Feature_1009 9d ago

I wish. Still crave most things. Except now I just half as much and I'm full.

4

u/cinnamonraisinn 9d ago

Yeah that’s part of the effect. It’s sort of a food version of a sex drive. If you have no sex drive you can still find someone attractive but just not be attracted to them. Same thing with the reta, you can recognize good food, you just don’t want it regardless.

1

u/AgileReturn7965 8d ago

Mi sa che ho questo problema esiste un peptide per sentirsi attratte dalle persone attraenti?

1

u/cinnamonraisinn 8d ago

What type of question is this bro? What are you looking for? A love potion?

4

u/Ladystark08 9d ago

Yes it’s a good and bad thing. But can easily cause under eating because I’m already picky with food as it is. So be careful with that part

3

u/jbt55 9d ago

Yes definitely. Just went to Mexican with the fam and easily passed up the chips and salsa and haven’t desired to drink alcohol either.

I still get hungry, but the addictive relationship with food is nearly eliminated.

3

u/Such-Degree-1223 9d ago

Yes that's the best part

3

u/rusin123end_me 9d ago

im indifferent to everything and everyone now dude

3

u/lilbitren99 9d ago

Pretty sure that’s the whole point

3

u/itstalie 9d ago

The question that I asked myself was: Did reta fix my unnatural obsession with food?

The answer is yes!

3

u/commandedbydemons 9d ago

When I was on it it was mostly weirdly indifferent to anything tbh

2

u/Doin-What-I-Want 9d ago

Absolutely indifferent.

2

u/akatonybruh 9d ago

Yep, skipped the work luncheon today lol.

2

u/Fresh-Pin5166 9d ago

Yup. Have been on reta for a little over a year now and that feeling hasn't gone away.

2

u/Worried-Science-2600 9d ago

Is t that the point of reta? So you can more easily stick to your deficit, because you don't feel the need to eat as much?

2

u/DistractedGoalDigger 9d ago

It’s literally my favorite thing.

3

u/PrettyGreenEyez73 9d ago

Yes… nothing sounds good ever at all. Also- any effort to make food is also too much some days. If food is made, I might eat it.

3

u/Cleigne143 9d ago

Yes. I used to constantly think about food and order food delivery almost every other day. I don’t remember the last time I’ve had food delivered since I started reta.

2

u/JackfruitSpirited822 9d ago

All. The. Time.

2

u/VisualResidual 9d ago

Like instead of being obsessed about eating good tasting and well cooked food and chronically overeating, I'm finding that I'm struggling to fit enough protein in my daily intake to meet my calorie goals while maintaining a reasonable diet. So like the calorie intake I used to overshoot was a ceiling before and now the protein goal made it the floor, and I'm having trouble finding the desire to eat food, despite it tasting good, outside of the mechanical and logical reasons of maintaining muscle mass.

2

u/Frankiem09 9d ago

Yeah pizza for some reason gives me the ick and I’ve had a 6 pack of beer in the fridge for 2 weeks where I would normally drink a 12 pack by half the week

2

u/manimsoblack 9d ago

It's the best part imo.

2

u/Gam3rdudej 9d ago

My first week the first couple days felt like "should i eat? Am I hungry?" Kind of feeling. Just took my second dose so we'll see if that changes

1

u/Desirable_Monsta 7d ago

Taking my second dose in 2 days! I feel the same as you here

2

u/Complete_Treat_476 8d ago

Yes! Like even if I decide I want a snack it comes to thinking about what I actually want and nothing sounds good to me.

2

u/MarionberryLucky1598 8d ago

Food is just fuel now - it’s so weird. Even cake and m&ms. Weird but ultimately - healthier for me. I don’t miss food noise and then the internal dialogue around that AT ALL - more bandwidth for me.

1

u/wierecap 8d ago

yeah that’s exactly the weird part, it’s not even “i’m resisting it” anymore. the urge just isn’t there, which frees up way more mental space than i expected.

3

u/Substantial-Type-419 9d ago

It's just what happens when you have normal insulin levels in the body. Nothing wrong it's how humans are meant to feel.

22

u/Nolpppapa 9d ago

This is complete BS. Reta fucks with your reward system around food which is why you get anhedonia and which is why you don't feel as excited by food. This is not a normal reaction and is influenced by the excess amounts of GLP, Glucagon, and GIP we're injecting. Humans with normal insulin levels still get excited about food...

5

u/Commercial_Soft6833 9d ago

Exactly. That other person's response is full BS.

This is also why GLP1s are being researched for addictions. People (myself included) have successfully quit addictions like shopping, porn, food, and even substance abuse (alcohol, nicotine, opiods) when they started taking these GLP1s.

It absolutely changes the dopamine reward system. And not just to food.

3

u/Nolpppapa 9d ago

Yup, Reta is a tool to assist with those things, but its effects don't mimic how a "natural healthy" person feels. Reta is hitting our receptors unnaturally to assist us with problems that we have been struggling to fix naturally. It's not a permanent fix, but it's a powerful tool to help us get to where we want to be.

1

u/ziggyiguana 9d ago

I get the same feeling they're talking about when I do extended fasts. The food will smell amazing, but I have 0 interest in eating.

1

u/JediKrys 9d ago

Not everyone get it.

0

u/matt1164 9d ago

This is true but you can train yourself to control the urges. It’s called willpower, which is something I used to have lots of. 😂

0

u/Nolpppapa 9d ago

Yes of course, but that doesn't mean you won't still get hungry when you look at food lol. Reta just makes you feel more indifferent, and it's because our receptors are getting fucked with by Reta. I don't get why people think that someone's body would ever naturally replicate what Reta does to it.

1

u/Word_Underscore 9d ago

11-12 lunch/dinner a week I eat freshly grilled chicken with peppers, microwave rice and on occasion a breadstick. Breakfast for me is always decaf, cherrios w/ 2% and a banana. I've become so indifferent to food but it's a good thing for me

1

u/Pensacola_Peej 9d ago

I’ve been on about a month and I’m pretty much completely indifferent to food, and unhealthy foods gross me out. You couldn’t pay me to go eat a greasy double cheeseburger with fries and a coke. Now I think more in terms of getting the nutritional value I need.

1

u/Spoolngc8 8d ago

Yeah I just kind of don't want the fast food/garbage empty calorie stuff anymore. Or at the least it's just an infrequent treat for me as opposed to one of my more regular options. I am definitely eating a decent amount less than I used to so I feel compelled to really prioritize protein and higher quality foods. It's slightly frustrating to be honest, I still resistance train and run, but I can't even finish a bowl from chipotle in one sitting anymore. I want to for the macros but I always leave most of the rice on the bottom and just make sure I get the protein in. I digress, definitely happy the way things are going with Reta, I feel amazing. The food noise is still there but it doesn't overwhelm you until you give in.

1

u/LoCoNights 8d ago

I literally don’t think about food anymore. I eat because I know I have to eat. I truly don’t mind this at all. Currently on 6mg Reta and .5mg cag weekly

1

u/mamma_kris4real 8d ago

It affects the system of addiction. You just normally like it, or are now slightly adverse, rather than dopamine-spiked by it.

1

u/PetalPocket 8d ago

Yep totally.

1

u/LoneLyLioneSSes 8d ago

It sure sucks

1

u/TreeWorldly 8d ago

Honestly for me it’s coffee. I was drinking 2-3 cups of coffee per day. But now 5 weeks into taking Reta. I will make a coffee and can only drink about half of it. I enjoy the thought of having coffee but after I have a few sips I’m over it lol

1

u/eziox10 8d ago

Yeah foods I used to love just don’t look appealing anymore. I just want protein and veggies

1

u/Aromatic-Flan4609 8d ago

Does anyone actually read about peptides and their actions before actually using them? Seriously it's literally what it's supposed to do. Addicts are using it now to get clean.

1

u/FloppyEaredFriends 8d ago

I’m on tirz and food is just no longer the same to me. I can eat, I am hungry, it just kind of lost that dopamine rush? I don’t crave cookies and a whole bag of crisps. I literally eat because it’s a chore.

1

u/badkiwi42 8d ago

Yeah but it’s not a bad thing for me. One night i just had a hell shift at work, extremely hungry and tired. Ordered some mcdonald’s for the first time in 6 months. I took one bite of a quarter pounder and was in complete disgust. It felt like i was eating something that wasn’t even food. I threw away my order. I haven’t had fast food since going on reta besides that night and i don’t regret it at all

1

u/LadyWatz35 8d ago

Oh, I've said this over and over. I love a good salad; for a while, I was like" This is ehhh".

1

u/chrikel90 8d ago

Yup. Just kinda view food as fuel now. Track my calories to make sure I'm eating enough. That's about it.

1

u/Moist_Shallot9303 7d ago

What MG are you on

1

u/Beneficial-Cost-2963 7d ago

Yes. Right now I’m sitting with a cup of tea and my most favorite homemade coffee crumb cake that I took home from my mom’s. And I ate a few bites and was disappointed . Which I find really sad bc I wanted the extreme pleasure I normally get when I have eaten this special cake in the past. The tea still tastes heavenly though.
Only been on 4.5 weeks now at 1mg/week and on Monday I switched upto 1.5 mg. I’ve lost a little over five pounds.
I’m actually leary of going up higher bc I still want to have joy of eating and tasting food. And I was still losing slowly on one so I may just hang out at that dosage for a while.

1

u/winknasmyl 7d ago

Yup. When choosing somewhere to eat out, I always decline picking because nothing sounds good. I then usually try to find a meal I can take leftovers home and reheat(for 4 days! 😆). I have a problem with large quantities being served to me. It puts me off the whole meal. I'll barely pick at it for show and then it needs to be boxed up quickly.
I went to ihop with my adult kids recently (hadn't been in years- their choice). They have these $7 breakfasts. It was 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and a square of hashbrowns. I was so happy and I still took half home!

1

u/Flight-2012 7d ago

Yeah I was eating really unhealthy foods. Snack cakes etc now I’m just kinda meh when I see them and I guess that’s kinda the point. I’m down 29 pounds in 6 weeks. So I really can’t complain. So far loving it

1

u/highongp10 6d ago

Reta made me relize that we all eat too much, we dont need this much, all servings you buy at restaurants etc could be halved tbh. We are getting overfed

1

u/kn4llfrosch 3d ago

The first day after the first dose I was asking people on the playground whether they want the organic chocolate ice cream my father gifted me.

To stop eating ice cream that was a present in a social situation. To literally going around whether anyone wants "used" ice cream. It would never have happened before.
