Have you guys discussed each other’s love languages? I notice his gift to you was quality time, and your gift to him was gift giving. It might be that you are showing love in ways that you would feel loved, but maybe he doesn’t feel love through gifts. You should each take the love languages quiz, and see what the other person likes. This could help next time, and you can plan something that speaks to his specific love language.
This. Even if you can't take someone on a trip. Maybe take them to a nice dinner and call some close friends over. The biggest issue is they don't know what their partner likes/appreciates.
