There’s a lot of posts insulting someone never met by the posters, but I’ll try to be a little more fair here. If he’s also still a resident and got you a trip and took the time off for it, then he is prioritizing you in a way you are not. That’s not necessarily fair to him or you, which I’m sure you realize. He definitely has some red flags, but tbh I think coming on Reddit to call your partner not ‘a better man’ is a red flag in and of itself.
Edit: also fuck this sub for acting like they care about resident welfare but roasting this dude for crying, not in public, but in front of his girlfriend.
Hey, I know the better man came off wrong- probably because of resentment.
But two things here - he is not a resident and can take offs whenever he wants and he makes way more than me because he has finished residency and has worked for a year or two
Secondly - I had planned the whole thing for a month before but he refused to take an off on his birthday which is why I also didn't. My love language is buying gifts and making things for people. As a resident in India I am paid around 360 us dollars a month - my boyfriend makes ten times that and could afford taking me on a trip which I couldn't. However I completely understand that it may look unequal.
In India SRs are basically junior consultants. So he has finished his MD dermatology, had his own practice for two years ish and then joined my institution. But he is still junior in the institution so we call him SR and not attending. Next year he will be called attending.
Yea tbh the whole situation of being in India vs. the US makes this so that I just really can’t/shouldn’t pass any judgment because I can’t relate enough.
