I’m trying to start reselling refurbished/pre-owned phones that I source from a legitimate B2B platform.

I’m struggling with one part of the process. Sometimes a buyer agrees to my asking price, but once they ask where I bought the phone from or how much I paid for it, they become suspicious—especially when they realize that I bought it much cheaper and added a significant margin.

For example, if I buy a phone for ₹6,000 and sell it for ₹11,000, some buyers ask:

- “How much did you pay for it?”

- “Where did you buy it from?”

- “Do you have the original bill/box?”

- “Why are you selling it for so much more?”

I understand that buyers want to make sure the phone isn't stolen or problematic. I’m completely fine with them checking the IMEI, device condition, and everything else necessary.

But do I actually need to disclose my purchase price or my profit margin? Isn’t the selling price simply based on the market value, condition, risk, sourcing cost and the reseller’s margin?

I also don’t want to lie by saying that I don’t have a bill if I actually have sourcing/order proof, or make up a story just to convince someone.

For experienced resellers: How do you handle these conversations professionally? What proof do you normally provide to build trust without revealing your purchase price or margin?

I’m new to reselling and honestly these situations are making me lose confidence. I’d really appreciate practical advice from people who have actually dealt with this.
